Chapter 460: Lava Dragon Awakening

The moment that my body felt charged with the power of a new Awakening, I allowed it to take complete hold of myself.

I could see that my arms were covered in black scales that resembled those of Fuego and Ovi, and my hands changed shapes to look more like a mix of dragon claws and human hands.

The energy oozing from my body felt overwhelmingly hot, creating an invisible dome around me that made it hard for others to breathe the closer they got to me.

Xalathas seemed interested in the transformation, but the demon didn’t hesitate or cower for a single second, carefully studying the situation and keeping his distance from me.

As I inspected my body and looked down at my transfigurated arms, I clenched my right fist and instantly made the ground below us shake, generating a massive pillar of lava that shot up into the sky all the way from the ground.

I was even surprised to see the intensity of my power since it wasn’t my intention to raise such a gigantic pillar of lava. However, I was also pleased with it.

Understanding that facing me in his current form would spell his death, Xalathas entire body suddenly got covered by a large black orb made of pure shadows.

After a few seconds, the orb began growing in size to the point I had to move back a bit so that I wouldn’t touch it, not knowing what it could do to me.

"Finally..." I muttered, sensing the devil’s transformation.

When the large shadow orb dissipated into thin air, Xalathas revealed himself, and his appearance had changed quite a bit.

His body had grown double its size, though the size of my opponents wasn’t something that could easily scare me.

His face was wider, and his horns and claws produced a perpetual stream of black flames from them, which I had seen Drakzen use in the past.

Without saying another word to each other, we bolted forward and clashed our fists, which released a shockwave that blew away the clouds above us, making way for a bit of sunlight to rain down on the battlefield.

Even though the sky was slowly getting red from the battle, we still had the sun in our favor, which Melina and I could use to our advantage. Still, considering that Melina was using her lightning Awakening, I didn’t think she would be relying on the sun any time soon.

Xalathas’ attacks were quick and heavy. It felt as if I was stopping a truck with my forearms every time I protected myself. Fortunately, I had more martial arts experience than him, so I was still able to counter with my own set of heavy attacks.

After barely managing to avoid getting my face clawed, I felt a scratch on my cheek as I charged my fist with lava magic, punching Xalathas’ gut with all my strength.

The strike was so powerful that a stream of lava burned through the demon’s body before sending him flying at bullet speeds toward G’Henna’s Castle, which was located at least two hundred meters away from us.

When the Demon King crashed against the tower and produced a massive cloud of dust and debris, I was a bit surprised to see that I had damaged the tower’s facade, knowing that it wasn’t something that could easily be done.

G’Henna’s Castle was built with one of the strongest minerals in the world, which was not only durable against any type of environment but also had a repelling effect on magical spells. In other words, it wasn’t the type of wall we could easily destroy.

Nevertheless, seeing Xalathas crashing against it and leaving a small crater on the side made me realize how much stronger I was with my active Awakening.

Clenching my fists again and generating another giant lava pillar to rise from the ground, I pointed at it with my finger and waved it to the side, prompting the lava to change direction and shoot straight at Xalathas before he could move away from the tower.

Right as the pillar got close to him, Xalathas covered himself in shadows once again, making the lava pillar split when it made contact, protecting him from the scalding liquid.

When I looked down, I noticed that we still had some of our troops near the tower, so I couldn’t keep shooting lava pillars at my opponent without hurting my own.

The soldiers on the bottom floor were preventing the demons from leaving the tower, which helped us maintain the fight concentrated in one area instead of letting them roam the entire Lost Continent. However, I didn’t think that was needed any longer.

The fact that we brought thousands of soldiers from nations all over the world was because we weren’t sure how this war would turn out at first.

If we had known that 99% of the demons would be inside the tower, I probably would have rejected bringing so many soldiers with us.

I knew that Yuki and Sage Astra’s group were relatively high in the tower, so they would be fine even if the rest of the continent were destroyed, but all of the soldiers doing their best on the first floors wouldn’t be that lucky.

[Ichiro, I’ll evacuate the lower floors!] Vespera’s voice echoed in my head.

My companions could sense all of my worries and feelings, and Vespera was aware that I couldn’t go all-out with so many people nearby, so she left the battle momentarily to get them to safety. I wasn’t sure how she would do it, but I trusted my companions.

After Xalathas retaliated and approached me at incredible speeds, I clenched both of my fists and produced several lava pillars around us, utterly destroying the battlefield, though it was not like this place looked any better before our arrival.

Suddenly, our fight was interrupted when the Primal Demon’s massive body fell between us, prompting the World Titan to jump on top of the monster and unleash a flurry of ground-and-pound strikes.

The fall of the giant demon produced an earthquake, but each of the World Titan’s punches released powerful shockwaves that made Xalathas and I get further away from each other.

*BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!* A loud exploding sound accompanied every punch, and even though I was hovering high up in the air, I could still feel my bones trembling with each strike.

’Having these two massive monsters here is a bit of a problem...’ I pondered, considering lending a hand to the dwarves piloting the World Titan.
