Chapter 462: Ichiro’s Death

When Drakzen absorbed the body of the Primal Demon while repelling my attacks, the massive body of the monster slowly turned to dust, prompting the World Titan to target Drakzen.

The dwarves had been piloting the titan like professionals, but I had seen the command room inside, so I knew how difficult it was to target a single person with a titan the size of a mountain.

As the World Titan slowly stood up and removed his hands from the lava pit that killed the Primal Demon, its head started to glow, and projectiles that looked like crystals shot toward Drakzen.

In the blink of an eye, Drakzen moved away from his position and flew upwards. Still, the homing projectiles followed him along, and realizing he wouldn’t be able to outrun them, Drakzen raised his hand and produced a barrier of demonic energy that redirected the projectiles away from the demon.

The moment that I clenched my fist and prepared myself to support the titan, I felt a cold hand reaching out for me from the side, making me raise a quick lava wall that stopped the attacker in their tracks.

"Seriously...?" I muttered, looking at Agares’ silhouette behind the lava.

Before I could retaliate, Vespera and Yoru attacked from his flank, with Yoru clawing his ribs and Vespera stabbing him on the shoulders with her spider legs, pushing him down to the ground with force.

At the same time, flying towards me from the opposite side, I sensed Xalathas and Melina quickly approaching. However, instead of raising another lava wall, I faced the Demon King and extended the dragon wings behind my back.

Even though I was ready to counter Xalathas’ offense, Melina caught up with him thanks to her lightning Awakening, producing a rain of lightning bolts that came down from the sky, solely targeting Xalathas.

Getting the Demon King out of her way, my wife hovered back-to-back with me. Both of us were overflowing with power, and we truly felt that losing wasn’t an option for us.

I could tell that the demons were prioritizing killing me first over the others since they kept fighting our companions and scurrying out of the fight just to attack me.

Nessa and Jackson were powerful compared to most people in the world, but the limits they set themselves clearly held them back, so the most they could do was divert the attention of one of the demons.

As Melina and I hovered with our backs against each other, the three demons cast powerful spells simultaneously, making my senses panic at the incoming danger.

Drakzen charged what seemed to be a combination of shadow and blood magic into a fist-sized orb, oozing copious amounts of demonic energy.

Agares’ body split into hundreds of copies of himself. However, each copy wasn’t nearly as powerful as the original.

Last but not least, Xalathas released his demonic energy and transformed into an even bigger version of himself, shooting out black magic projectiles that destroyed everything around him indiscriminately.

Everything happened quickly, though, in my eyes, it all moved as if time had slowed down.

My main instinct was to protect myself from whatever attack Drakzen would cast while Melina shielded herself from Xalathas’ spell.

However, when I saw Drakzen grinning and aiming the orb away from me, my eyes widened in bewilderment as I understood he wasn’t targeting me but the World Titan.

Time flow returned to normal, and in an instant, numerous explosions and beams of magic covered the area, prompting Drakzen to shoot the orb in his hands and strike the titan’s stomach.

The size of his magic projectile and the World Titan were utterly incomparable—like an ant striking a dinosaur—nonetheless, right as the orb struck, a massive explosion opened a hole in the giant.

I clenched my teeth with anger and concern while the titan was pushed and began to fall on his back, making the dwarves inside press the evacuation button.

I knew about the button because the dwarven engineers had mentioned it a few times, but I was never told how it worked.

I imagined that the seats would have a parachute that would make them safely land on the ground. Instead, wings made of metal and fabric folded open from the sides of the seats, allowing the dwarves to fly away from the battlefield.

In a way, I was glad to see the dwarves escaping the area, but the World Titan was out of commission after Drakzen’s display of raw power.

’I’ll have to do it...’ I pondered, remembering a specific spell that I wanted to try with my gravity Awakening.

As the power of the lava dragon mixed with my gravity magic, the fire that was being produced from my claws and wings turned into a deep purple color, and my fiery aura became dimmer.

"ICHIRO!" Melina shouted, using sound magic to amplify her voice.

’Why is she looking at me like that?’ I wondered.

My wife’s face showed evident concern and anger, and after a few seconds, I realized that Melina had moved from her position behind me.

’Huh? When did she move?’ I pondered with confusion, clenching my teeth when I realized that my brain was foggy and my thoughts were interrupted by a strange static noise.

’Is this... a spell!?’ I thought, but before I could move a muscle, I felt a firm grip around my wings, arms, and legs.

Some of Agares’ copies had reached my position and grabbed all my extremities to keep me in place, and for whatever reason, I couldn’t move and get them off me.

"Heh... You almost broke free from it," Drakzen said, now hovering less than two meters away from me.

"It was truly a pleasure, Ichiro. My first friend..." he continued, opening his palm and making a curved blade appear from the shadows.

’Move, move, move!’ I thought, unable to say a word due to the mysterious spell.

*Shhhnk!* The sound of Drakzen’s blade slowly stabbing my heart was the only thing I could hear.

My eyes widened in disbelief, and a rush of excruciating pain rushed through my body, making me release raw magic around me with no element attached to it, utterly pulverizing the copies that were holding me back.

*Slash!* Drakzen waved his blade upwards, slicing all the way from my chest to my left shoulder, leaving a gaping hole where my heart should have been.

As I plummeted down to the ground and left a trail of blood in the air, I could sense everyone going silent, but I didn’t know if that was an effect of dying.

’I’m sorry, everyone...’ I thought, and images of all the people I had met in this world flooded my mind, with Melina taking the main spotlight.

’I really wanted to keep traveling with her...’

’I got killed again... Though I didn’t feel this much pain during my first death,’

’Ah... It’s because I’m leaving so many things behind, is it?’

After one last remembrance of my life, I crashed against the ground and closed my eyes... I was dead. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
