My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 468: From the Ashes
Chapter 468: From the Ashes
As I kept talking to Phelena in the mysterious space among the cosmos, I started to feel my body warming up, which signaled the goddess that it was time for me to go.
After smiling and letting my hand go, an image flashed in my brain, portraying a fiery phoenix widely extending its wings.
’Acalan...?’ I wondered, and at that moment, I remembered the blessing I received from him a few years ago after the war in Kalusia.
<Blessing of the Phoenix>
<Resurrect one time after dying from unnatural means.
It can only be used once every ten years.>
"Hah..." I chuckled, noting that my fight truly wasn’t over just yet.
When I looked at my hands, I noticed that my skin was gray and charred, as if a flame was burning from within me.
Even when my ashen fingers crumbled, more ash took its place to maintain the shape of my body.
On any other occasion, I would’ve freaked out about seeing my own body turning into dust. However, somehow, there was a serene and calm flow of energy coursing through my body that made me feel at ease.
While my entire being became ashes, I started to hear voices coming from afar, and I recognized my companions yelling with all their hearts.
’I know... You are waiting for me...’ I thought, closing my eyes and focusing on listening to my companions’ pleas.
The muffled voices in the distance became louder by the second. When my entire body looked like it had been turned to stone, with cracks glowing from the flames inside, I abruptly opened my eyes and found myself lying on a mound of ash in the middle of the battlefield.
Slowly, I sat up on the ground and inspected my hands once again, noticing that they still seemed to crumble and regenerate. Still, I felt more alive than ever before.
I could tell that my face wasn’t making any expressions even if I tried, so I assumed it was a side-effect of the blessing—not like it mattered.
"Ichiro!" A man called my name, making me turn my head and see Sage Devon sitting a few meters away with empty potion vials lying around him.
The headmaster of the academy was in clear shock after seeing me being reborn from the ashes, but he still managed to point at the sky in the direction of the battle.
Calmly, I stood up and looked, seeing massive waves of green fire clashing with pillars of black flames, and I instantly recognized Melina’s magic.
The wake of their attacks produced strong gusts of winds that made my ashen body look like it would fall apart, but it kept quickly regenerating and maintaining shape.
Unfortunately, Vespera’s poncho turned into dust as soon as I stood up, though I was glad that I could somehow keep my pants, even if my expression didn’t show it.
For whatever reason, my companions and the other sages halted their attacks, leaving Melina and Drakzen fighting alone in the sky, making me wonder if they couldn’t sense me since they were so focused on their fight.
At that moment, I sensed Melina’s magic drastically depleting, which wasn’t a surprise, considering the potent magic she had used during the battle. In fact, she lasted much more than I would have.
"It’s time to end it all!" Drakzen’s voice echoed on the battlefield, followed by the creation of a gigantic demonic figure made of shadows.
It didn’t take me more than a second to realize that Drakzen had absorbed Xalathas’ powers, and the shadowy figure he created seemed to be around the same size as the primal demon that fought against our titan.
Any attack unleashed by Drakzen would leave behind an indescribable wake of destruction—maybe even sink the continent back to the bottom of the sea.
I was still calmly inspecting my crumbling body when the giant shadowy figure began its attack, and right as Melina raised her guard and prepared to protect herself, I could instantly tell that she wouldn’t be able to escape unharmed from it.
"NOW, PERISH!" Drakzen’s voice not only became louder but also much deeper and foreboding.
The vast amount of demonic energy gathered in the shadowy figure’s palms was powerful enough to catch the attention of our companions once again, prompting the dragons to hover next to Melina and reinforce their defense.
At that moment, Yoru and Vespera appeared before me, both of them in their humanoid forms, with expressions that looked like a mix of sadness and anger.
Crawling next to me was the baby dragon, Ovi, who looked utterly spent as I felt a surge of his magic inside of me, which made me realize that the baby dragon had been transferring his magic power while I was unconscious in an effort to bring me back to life.
"You must have been worried..." I muttered, making Vespera bite her lips with frustration.
They must have believed that they failed their tasks as my companions the moment I was stabbed in the heart, but I knew very well that it wasn’t their fault, so I just gave them a confident smirk to raise their spirits.
When Drakzen’s gigantic summon opened its mouth and released a black beam of pure, concentrated demonic energy directed at Melina, the dragons extended their wings and produced a magical barrier in front of them.
However, before the beam could reach them, I had already moved and appeared in front of their barrier, raising one arm and redirecting the massive beam of black light into the sky without much effort.
Drakzen seemed surprised to see me hovering there, and it took him a few seconds to utter a few words.
My skin was as gray as a stone, with cracks all over my body that produced a faint orange glow from the phoenix’s fire.
Whenever I moved, I left behind a trail of ashes, and even when my body crumbled and regenerated infinitely, I felt stronger than ever.
"The Phoenix’s Blessing!?" Drakzen asked in disbelief while I coldly stared down at the giant shadowy figure.
"Dammit, Ichiro. Just die already!" He continued, prompting the giant to open its mouth again and charge another beam of demonic energy.
Without uttering a word, I took a step forward, even though I was hovering in the sky, and warped all the way to the front of the giant’s face. freёnovelkiss.com
The monster was still charging its attack, and when he saw me mere meters away from him, he decided to unleash the beam from point-blank distance.
Aiming my open palm forward, I contained the demonic energy from leaving the monster’s mouth and returned it to him, producing luminous cracks on the giant’s body from the overwhelming energy its body held inside.
A moment later, the massive shadowy figure imploded from its own condensed demonic energy, spreading its shadows all around the environment and leaving Drakzen’s real body hovering in front of me.
