Chapter 14: Chapter 14 – I can never get it wrong

Earlier that morning, Grandpa Aristotle got the domestic workers up and about for the arrival of his grandchildren and their women.

He ensured the chef prepared the best meals with the finest wine. The first party to arrive was Cole and his wife, Rene, and daughter, Mia.

"Where is your daughter? Why did you not come with her?" The old man asked the middle-aged man at the doorway, unwilling to let him in without seeing the woman he was expecting.

Cole was brutally confused. This arrangement was made by his father a long time ago, so he lacked the details of the matter.

His only reason for keeping to it was to save the company.

"Grandpa Aristotle, this is my daughter, Mia, the one we always talked about."

He pulled Mia close to him, but the old man was shaking his head while staring at Mia from head to toe, his gaze resting on her wrist.

"She’s not the one. How dare you play a fast one on me," he threatened. Cole was afraid. The old man had all his hair grey and still looked handsome.

He was also strong-looking, and everyone knew that Grandpa Aristotle was very dangerous, so Cole could not allow anything to go wrong.

Or, did he get it wrong? Was it Joan the old man wanted? That selfish child had already married a cripple, so there was no hope left for Cole.

As such, he was not willing to reveal the existence of another daughter.

"Grandpa, what are you talking about?"

"I am not your grandpa. You better address me properly or face the consequences," the old man hissed. Only his real grandchildren were privileged to call him grandpa.

The rest, including the likes of Cole, had to add his name to it. His wife was completely overlooked in the whole ordeal, and Mia had mixed feelings.

It was a relief to know that she was not the one to marry that paralyzed heir of the King family, but she was also afraid the unresolved issue could affect their business alliances.

She could not put in a word for her father because not even her mother could do so.

"I only invited you because of your daughter, so if she’s not here, then I don’t know what you want," Grandpa Aristotle said coldly, his body still blocking the entrance, not needing a bodyguard to deal with the likes of Cole.

"Please, Grandpa Aristotle, I think there is a problem. The contract said my daughter will be married to your grandson. We have always accepted the condition," he said with internal bitterness.

Mia was going to marry a crippled man if he calmed the old man, but Cole could also not sacrifice the business.

The corner of Aristotle’s lips curled upwards. It was a mocking smile. "Do you think I don’t know about your first daughter, Adelaide? What gave you the authority to even bring that woman and this girl to my house?"

Cole was sweating bullets. Monica never mentioned Joanna being Adelaide to him, so he was caught in a web.

Lost for words, he was about to give in when Grandpa Aristotle’s mood suddenly brightened.

He was looking at someone behind them. "Logan, you are here. Is that your wife?" His expression was unreadable.

Nevertheless, he moved out of the doorway because of the joy of seeing one of his grandsons, giving Cole and his family the opportunity to let themselves in, but that did not mean that the battle was over.

"Grandpa," Logan hurriedly embraced the old man and made an introduction. "Grandpa, meet my girlfriend. We shall be getting married soon. I told you everything they said about me were lies. I’m a one-woman man now."

Unknown to him, his presence caught somebody else’s attention, but Grandpa Aristotle was more interested in the woman his grandson was about to get married to.

"Does she have a name?" His glare on the woman made her uncomfortable as Logan made the introduction.

"Fiona Sander, grandpa. She’s very lovely." He was chewing gum, rocking a V-neck blazer, leaving the upper part of his well-toned chest bare.

This gave him an alluring appeal. Grandpa reminded him. "Well, you know the rule. Whoever gets married first becomes the CEO, and from what I’ve heard, your brother is married.

"Impossible!" Logan’s anger flared up. "My brother has been bedridden, so how could he be married? Oh, is it about that arranged marriage thing?"

Logan always thought of it as a joke, but if his elder brother had indeed married his arranged bride, then he was a step ahead. But then, Logan still had a plan because his elder brother was bedridden, so how could he become the CEO of the King’s multinational?

"That shows that you two have not been cooperating and..." Grandpa Aristotle was saying when an annoying voice cut through.

"Logan?" It was Mia. Her face was pale as if she was seeing a ghost, as she ambled close to where Logan stood with Fiona.

Cole wanted to stop her, but it was too late. They were not exactly in the good books of the old man and should not show their faces or make their presence more irritable than it already was.

"Mia, it’s you," Logan said directly, not showing any form of remorse.

"Logan, did you just introduce her as your girlfriend? What about me?" Mia asked, but it was too late to take back her words.

"So, is this what you do behind my grandson’s back? Betrothed to the elder and dating the younger?" Grandpa Aristotle’s eyes were piercing, and his voice threatening, Mia’s words caught up in her throat.

He knew there was a mix-up but Mia was showing a bad character right now. Her mother went to pull her by the hand.

"Silly girl. You don’t know him." But it was too late to hide. Grandpa already heard and saw everything going on, and Logan was confused.

"Grandpa, is she the one betrothed to Alexander?"

"And you two are siblings?" Mia asked from a distance, afraid of the old man and feeling ashamed.

Whereas grandpa was glaring daggers at Logan. "You have always been a disappointment. You still are."

Logan was losing the battle and Fiona only made it worse. "So, you are cheating on me?" Fiona asked, seeming offended, but grandpa was getting tired from standing for too long.

"You all sit down. Certain things must be addressed today."

Everyone settled around the huge dining table, but the atmosphere was so tense that even the maids felt the heat of the uncomfortable moment.

Mia was in tears. Logan lied to her. "You said you are Logan Matison. So how could you be Grandpa Aristotle’s grandson?"

"Matison isn’t his sur, but middle name, but no more about this. I’m only here to choose the heir, and Logan, you are already disqualified," Grandpa Aristotle declared, Fiona was disheartened.

A reliable person gave her a hint about Logan’s family, which was why she got serious with him, though she knew he couldn’t keep one woman.

Her ex, Alex was very good, caring, and considerate but ever since that accident, she lost interest, coupled with the fact that he became a cripple.

Then again, he was merely an office worker but now, Logan was also not where she expected him to be so she was interested in knowing about the elder brother, who seemed to be a better person.

"No, grandpa," Logan was almost in tears, but his anger boiled towards Mia. "It’s all your fault. What do you even want here?"

Mia was about to say something when Grandpa’s head darted to the side the moment a shadow figure stood at the entrance.

To everyone’s amazement, he beamed at the female figure at the entrance, close to the man in the wheelchair, rising to his feet and embracing her.

"Finally, you are here, Adelaide."

Joanna was hit with discomfort. "I’m sorry, sir, but I think you got the wrong person."
