Perfect Avatar-Chapter 231: The Last Wheel Of A Carriage To Hell
Chapter 231: The Last Wheel Of A Carriage To Hell
The frozen corpses of the monsters were scattered everywhere, most of them in pieces or with terrifying holes in their bodies, and everywhere, in every corner, they were there.
Black diamond-colored armor crossed with purple veins like rivers feeding each part of their body, a helmet leaving a lot of room for the imagination, the part reserved for their eyes and their chest radiating and receiving the veins of purple energy .
It was not difficult to identify them, as they were famous in the world of emissaries and politics.
"The Black Knights..." Freya whispered.
The people in the back who couldn’t get a good view let out a cry of astonishment.
"What?! The Black Knights? From Fenrir?? What are they doing here?!"
They tried to push the front line back to see the Black Knights, causing a small ruckus in the middle.
Eryl looked in bewilderment, everywhere, the knights were everywhere the eyes could see.
"Why are they here? When did they come?"
"What is going on?" Nefertari shook her shoulder. "Who are these knights?
Freya swallowed, trying to get everyone to shut up by lowering her voice.
"They are knights from another empire... Do you remember our history? We told you we were..."
"Guys!" Marie gasped.
Panicked, the girl turned to the knights, expecting to be found, but what she saw was much worse.
"Uh?!"
"Damn..."
Exclamations of shock and gasps filled the group, their eyes converging on one point.
Further, beyond the front line of the knights, far from the frozen corpses, the phenomenon who was busy chatting with an old man in military uniform turned her head to the side, and those who saw the face behind the silver hair hid behind the cliff.
"Oh no... Oh no no no..."
Freya let her body rest on the foreign land of ice, beside her, Eryl had beads of sweat forming on her forehead.
"For God’s sake... Now we are truly done. Why? What is the meaning of this?"
The team members instinctively fell back to the ground as soon as they saw the girl, a reaction that did not go unnoticed by Nefertari.
"Well, now that you’re the one with the special information that everyone needs to know, would you like to explain who she is?"
Freya tapped into her last reserves to keep her composure and give a proper explanation, basically detailing how doomed they were.
"This girl is the leader of these Black Knights, Rhea Silva, better known as the Sin Avatar of Pride."
"Sin... pride... like the queen?"
"No, not like Envy." Eryl stood up in turn. "Rhea is the strongest of all, stronger than any Player, stronger than all the avatars. My... Gluttony has more knowledge about the world than any of us, and she has admitted that Rhea would be the strongest... basically, this person should be the strongest being in the world."
On the ground, Rhea turned around and headed in a different direction, followed by a smaller girl with curly blonde hair and another with long brown hair.
"What do you mean stronger than the Queen? No one is above our Queen!"
"I know at least two people stronger than your pathetic Queen and the strongest of them is afraid of Pride!"
"You don’t look like you know how to boil water, so I take it you don’t know what power is!"
Nefertari and Eryl were face to face, forcing Freya to step between them.
"Can’t you stop your shenanigans for a minute?! The situation can’t be that bad but maybe you want them to notice us too?"
"Wait a second...look!"
They turned to the general who was abruptly separated from her troops.
She headed towards a narrow passage in the ice while all the other knights remained waiting.
Meanwhile, the two girls following her were having a heated debate, with the little girl scolding the brunette and seeming to send her to some sort of punishment as she headed towards the cliff right below Freya’s group.
"Hey, what’s going on? Are they fighting?"
"...They didn’t notice us, did they?"
The brown-haired girl stopped in front of the ice wall.
She kicked a stone and started rubbing her index fingers together.
"It really looks like she got scolded." Cid groaned.
All the while, Freya watched Rhea’s behavior as she disappeared from sight.
She shivered a little, then bit her lip, a crazy thought crossing her mind.
"Eryl, on the day of the Twilight of the Gods, Candace said that Rhea offered to help her, right?"
"...My lady, it’s asking the devil rather than the monster."
"Maybe, but is it really impossible? Looking at her like that, she looks more human than the others we’ve seen."
Eryl waved her hand in ultimate disapproval.
"Freya, how many good Avatars do you know, and how many of them are weak? Ask yourself."
No one could understand their brief exchange, but Freya was determined to bet everything on this last opportunity.
"Everyone, at this point there’s no point in denying it, do you think we’re going anywhere with this expedition? We can’t go to Wrath territory, we’ve lost track of our friends and The condition for getting Envy’s support is to go against Fenrir, probably as enemies."
At first, they couldn’t understand the girl’s intention, but slowly, with all the elements at their disposal, it didn’t take them long to understand the message.
"You want to ask Silva for help?" Marie whispered.
It seemed like the worst possible idea to all of them, especially those who were unaware of their intention to escape, but Freya was eager for any opportunity.
"Look, we don’t have all the time in the world, we agree that at this point we won’t get any help from Envy or Wrath. Wrath is too dangerous and Envy wants us to cross the road to Fenrir, but seems like we have to face them anyway!"
She stood up, placing a hand on her chest.
"We’re not looking for an escape, we’re looking for a solution, now it’s do or die. If she refuses we die, if we don’t move we die too, but if a one-in-a-million chance happens and she accepts ...it will all be over. No more Player, no more Twilight of Gods, this is our last chance."
Her speech reflected the light of the leader she has become and, once again, her arguments were undeniable.
For the simple-minded volunteers, it was enough to encourage them to follow her.
But for those who knew a little too much about this world, it was simply a matter of choosing a way to die.
"Wait, Freya, what about our sisters?" Nefertari pointed her sword at Freya. "The Queen said they were attacked here so this Rhea must be responsible, are you trying to betray us?"
Eryl stood guard, pointing her own dagger at Nefertari’s neck, prompting the other elves to point their spears and arrows at the servant.
The tension was building again, but as she met Nefertari’s eyes, Freya never faded.
"I guess that’s another dead end. I’ll be honest with you, I doubt your queen is ready to help us on our odyssey."
"...So it’s a betrayal..."
"BUT... suppose we managed to get Fenrir’s help, they would free your sisters without a doubt, don’t you think?"
She stepped forward, letting the tip of the sword touch her forehead.
"I know the special gift Queen Cleopatra gave you and your people, so I’m sure your sisters are perfectly fine, you won’t disagree, I suppose?"
Nefertari’s remained still, her red eyes staring at Freya. There was barely an inch between the tip of the sword and the girl, not enough to impress Freya.
"And even if we decided to follow your Queen’s plan, we would still have to face the Black Knights, but as enemies of course. My idea would give us the possibility of having a peaceful, bloodless encounter, without loss of a comrade, isn’t that a better option?"
The two girls remained silent for a few seconds, but finally Nefertari lowered her sword.
She took a deep breath and scratched her hair, then nodded to her comrades who also recanted.
"And how do you plan to do that? She seems closer to an enemy than us, what is your plan?"
Freya offered a radiant smile, the icing on the cake of her dialogue masterpiece.
"It’s simple, there’s nothing to lose so I’ll act like there’s nothing to lose. I’ll do exactly what she did."
