"Why does your eyes look so sad, as if you are about to cry?"

Poking the deep frown in between in his brows with his thick index finger, when Aiden mumbled curiously, his voice retrieved Barnes back to the present from the beautiful memories of the past they had shared together in the Remsworth mansion.

Still holding onto that little flower petal that Aiden had plucked from his hair, just like how his little Master Aiden used to do back in the days, Barnes didn’t realize himself getting so indulged in his thoughts, that he forgot about the present day.

But as if the sad face he retained all this time amidst that anticipating silence between them, it really caught Aiden’s attention, and he couldn’t stand his curiosity from asking him, "You seemed to be lost in some really deep thoughts...what were you thinking so sincerely?"

His curious mumble made Barnes lift his head up, and when he gazed at his gleaming brown eyes, a small sad smile curved his lips when he pondered to himself, ’Looking through our beautiful memories once again, my heart feels so heavy, that its hard to breathe.

’While I am enduring this tangible pain inside my chest, being the only one who remembers everything now, but still, somehow it feels it would be just better for you to forget all the pained memories from your past, even if it included me...Master Aiden. Our past was just like a bruise that would have turned blue over the years...and...since I was the one who broke our promise and left your hand first, I feel it’s only fair if you forget about me too.

’I will consider it as my punishment, Master Aiden. But even now, I still fear the possibility that someday...if your memories come back...would you hate me for leaving you all alone when you had no one to rely upon? At that time I was too helpless and battered, your Mother would’ve harmed you again if I tried to act stubborn...but, I wanted to tell you now that over these span of years, I have fought hard to become stronger and gave it all up so that I could come back for you once again.

’I know I shouldn’t have any right to ask you this...but...can we ever go back to cherish our precious bond that we had in the past? Will I be too shameless if I ask for your forgiveness?’

"Hello? Mr. Old Coot, if you keep zoning out like this, it makes me even more curious to find out what are you so seriously thinking about?" Flicking his fingers before Barnes’s face, Aiden sounded a bit grumpy from his tone, acting a little childish unknowingly.

However, Barnes carefully tucked the flower petal inside his suit pocket and then masked a fake wide smile to hide all the distressed thoughts he was enduring inside before reverting back, "Well, I was thinking if you would have a little more free time in your hands, then care to join me for a walk nearby—"

"VRRRR!"

Before Barnes could finish his mumble, his phone vibrated very loudly, making him wince at the sound. At that moment when he was enjoying a soothing moment with his Master Aiden, the call served as a big interruption which irked him a bit.

He was already aware that Zenith was together with Kylian right now and he didn’t intend to interrupt their privacy, so he wasn’t expecting any call in the first place. But when he grabbed his phone out of the suit pocket, his face turned a little pale with concern, when he saw the caller ID showed Mr. Clark’s number!

Since he was employed under Mr. Clark, just like his other chosen men, all of them used satellite phones to communicate with each other in case of any emergency.

They knew Mr. Clark wasn’t the type of person to call unless it was very urgent, but today before following after Aiden, Barnes had forgotten his satellite phone in the small room he was given to stay in the Academy.

Thus, he realized Mr. Clark reached him on a normal phone after failing to contact him through satellite phone, and it froze Barnes from fear. He walked a little far from Aiden and his fingertips trembled before picking up his call, "H-Hello, Boss Clark—"

"WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN DOING THERE, YOU LITTLE RASCAL!?"

A furious growl from the other side almost blew away Barnes’s eardrums, making him flinch hard with a gasp. Mustering his strength to cope up with the crisis, Barnes peeked a glance behind and saw Aiden’s curious eyes were solely locked on him.

"I am sorry, Boss...I forgot my satellite phone in my room and I might have missed your call there—"

"That’s not what I am pissed about, you idiot! Where is Zenith?"

Suddenly Mr. Clark’s blunt interrogation left Barnes very nervous as he gulped, quickly trying to think of an excuse to give him. There was no way he could ever tell him that after helping Kylian’s mother in crisis, Zenith sneaked outside the Academy to enjoy his day off with his beloved, otherwise he feared Mr. Clark might fly away to reach him there and shoot him dead.

"O-Oh, Young Master is here...in the Academy, Boss. He told me last night he couldn’t sleep properly so he would be resting the whole day...since it’s weekend." His legs were shivering hard with the severe palpitations running inside him, as Barnes mustered his strength to give the excuse.

"Really? Zenith is in the Academy right now? Are you telling me the truth?"

"Y-Yes, of course, Boss! I...I am saying truth..."

"Then why isn’t he picking up my calls? I have been trying to reach him so many times, but he never picked up once." Mr. Clark’s voice sounded quite vexed, and deep which often happened whenever he was very stressed with something.

In that tone, he continued, "If he’s really there right now, then go to his room Barnes, and put him on the speaker right now. I have something urgent to talk to him!"
