Chapter 196: Chapter 196: Badly shaken

Before giving birth to Kylian, Marita already set her goal of forever keeping her child away from the twisted shadows of Rupert, and to make sure of that, she had opted to live in isolation forever, far from the big towns like Westport or Eastport, so that his men would never be able to track her.

Living in hiding was hard for an unmarked omega like her, but Marita fought resiliently against the odds of society, bearing her serene smile always as her biggest strength. And the only person who was the live witness of her core struggle to restart life was Granny Elma.

From her employer, she soon became more than family to Marita as she started to look at her as her own mother.

When Kylian was born inheriting the breathtaking beauty and charm of his mother, Marita couldn’t help but sob her heart out on that day, hugging her little boy tightly to her chest.

Every time she would glance at her innocent child’s face, she felt an immense surge of guilt inside for all the times she tried to abort the baby on its own, intentionally eating the forbidden wild berries that were strictly prohibited from consuming for omegas during pregnancy.

But at such a young age when she ran away from the Godwin mansion, just thinking about giving birth to that monster’s child would leave painful shivers to crawl down her spine, and thus she foolishly attempted eating those wild berries a few times, hoping to the baby would die on its own in her belly.

But no one could change their predestined fate...and thus, when she failed all of her attempts she had to come to terms with the fact that she had to give birth.

But after all those months of carrying him in her womb, now, looking at her newborn child’s face when Kylian clutched her finger for the first time with his tiny trembling hands, Marita couldn’t stop those guilt-stricken tears from streaming down her cheeks, despite Granny Elma patting her shoulder to help her calm down.

On that day when she hugged that innocent child tight, she had vowed to raise him with all her heart, and by giving him all the love in this world that a child should deserve. Th child which she didn’t want in the first place became her only reason of living very quickly, and thus, Marita devoted her everything to raising her Kyle as a wise person.

From an early age, she always used to teach him to help the weaker ones in need, and following his mother’s advice, Kylian turned out to be exactly the way she wanted him to be. Despite raising him, Marita had always kept a keen watch around her surroundings when Kyle was still a toddler, to make sure Rupert’s men wouldn’t come after them there.

But soon when he became a teenager, Marita finally rested at ease with the hope that maybe Rupert had actually stopped searching for her by giving up. In fact, she was even prepared to fake a death certificate if necessary, as the last resort to escape the clutches of that man.

But by then, Marita had realized Kylian hadn’t become a twisted sick person like his father and instead inherited her kind and humble traits, which made her quite relieved from living in fear for all these years. She never bothered to tell Kylian anything about his father, nor did he ever persistently ask her, since Marita had always fulfilled the duties of both parents diligently while raising him in that small coastal town.

But even though she could feel at ease after realizing Kylian took after her, every night she sincerely prayed to the Moon Goddesses to make Kylian become the Alpha and live a worthy life in a society where omegas were looked down upon worse than others. On his 19th birthday, after hearing from Zenith that Kylian had become a dominant Alpha, the deep fear hidden at the corner of her heart had finally disappeared, and she could breathe at ease.

But who knew that the clutches of her dark, twisted past wouldn’t be easy to escape from?

After 19 years, suddenly confronting one of the people who were involved in her dark past, Marita felt as if all the blood on her body had run cold.

Her feet were shaking badly as she gawked with disbelief at Rupert’s ill-tempered nephew Issac still throwing an arrogant fit inside the hospital, making all the people around him too awkward and jittery even to breathe.

’W-Why is he here...in...in this small town? I...I had f-firmly believed that t-they will never bother coming here...b-but why now? D-Don’t tell me...h-has he still not stopped looking f-for me? T-That monster...s-still want to grab me u-under his clasp?’

Murmuring those anxious words on her own, Marita suddenly felt a sharp pain at the back of her head which made her steps a bit wobbly. Before she was about to lose her composure, Granny Elma quickly reached her from behind and held onto her arm tight, sounding very concerned, "Mari, what happened? Why are you suddenly shivering so hard? Are you catching a fever perhaps? Shall I summon a nurse?"

Just spending one night with Rupert, he had given him the lifelong traumatic experience which would often onset her panic attacks whenever Marita was reminisced about him. Her arms and legs were shaking hard, and she started hyperventilating a little while holding onto Granny Elma’s hand, "I-I...I h-have to leave. I-I need to go back h-home...right now, Granny!"

"Wait...Mari, are you having a panic attack?" Deeply concerned for her, Elma clasped onto her hand tight and tried to help her sit on the bench near them. But Marita was shaking so badly that before she could step ahead, her feet jumbled the steps and when she was about to fall on the ground, a nurse who was nearby them hurriedly rushed to the spot and grabbed Marita from falling down.

"Miss Marita! Please get a hold of yourself! Why are you still outside your cabin? Shouldn’t you have gotten rest!?"

Out of frantic stimulation, the nurse raised her voice quite high while screeching at her, but just hearing the loud echo, Issac paused his blabber for a second and averted his gaze upstairs from where the sound came.

As if Marita had already foreseen it coming, she quickly ducked her face behind to make sure he wouldn’t get to see her. But sweating and shivering hard, Marita still couldn’t control herself from breathing hard when she stubbornly muttered, "I have to leave! I can’t stay in this hospital anymore, p-please Ma’am! Let me leave..."

"Miss Marita, calm down. You’re shaking so much, and you’re turning pale. What do you seem so worried about? Please let me take you to your cabin—"

"WHY CAN’T YOU JUST LISTEN TO ME!? I CAN’T STAY HERE! I...I..." Out of panic and a rush of mixed emotions stirred inside her, Marita couldn’t control her voice from lashing loudly at the nurse who was only trying to persuade her politely.

But when the face of Rupert’s wicked sneer from that fatal night flashed across her mind again, as she considered it one of the cruelest nightmares of her entire life, Marita couldn’t stop herself from sobbing bitterly when she folded her arms, with the IV drip still attached on the back of her left palm, "Please Ma’am, I won’t be able to s-stop this panic attacks if you still force me to stay here. I can’t... I-If it had been only about my life...I wouldn’t have bothered so much...since I have lived a pretty long life already.

"But...it’s about my little Kyle! I-I can’t endanger his life, no way I can’t...So...please...please let me go home...I-I give you my word that I will come back regularly for routine checkup...but please...help me discharge from here...right at this moment!"

Her helpless shivering voice left the nurse and Granny Elma too stunned to speak as they could vividly see how badly Marita was shaken from fear even while speaking. She was covered in cold sweat, and her words were getting jumbled from how badly she was jittery inside.

But after watching over her for all these years, even though she hadn’t shared much information about Kylian’s father with Granny Elma, Marita had only mentioned that he was one of the disgusting monsters from whom she was determined to protect her precious Kylian forever.

On that day, Granny Elma noticed her facial expression had changed into horrifying when she briefly mentioned that man, which didn’t make her fail to realize that she was impregnated against her will.

But now, watching that harrowingly shaken and dreadful look on her face once again after all these years, Granny Elma wrapped her hand tightly around Marita’s shoulder to comfort her a little, as a thought sprang inside her mind, ’Did she happen to see that filthy rapist nearby here? But as per I remember, she had told me he lived in a big town, so why would he bother to come here?’
