Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Admit it

As a brief silence fell between them, with every passing second, Zenith felt strangely anxious inside. Gawking ardently at his face, Zenith skeptically inquired him back, "Why are you even asking the obvious, Mr. Clark? Are you doubting that boy now just because I am fending for him right now?

"Be honest, has my father been feeding too much bullshit to you these days? Or maybe you are getting old to be forgetful about identifying an Alpha’s trait, eh?"

The more Zenith’s body language appeared unsettled to Mr. Clark, the more he realized Kylian wasn’t just someone ordinary to him. There was definitely something in between, but Zenith was blatantly refusing the truth.

"I understand, I just wanted to confirm it once. As long as you stay with an Alpha, President Agastya has no problem with it."

Mr. Clark gave him a cordial response after a brief contemplation, followed by a faint warning, "But...I hope you do remember that you are strictly forbidden from being near an omega, and of course I do know that you hate them too."

"Hah!" Hearing Mr. Clark’s curt answer, Zenith tossed a furious sneer at him. A vein popped at the side of his broad neck when he gritted his jaws, "So you were actually dubious regarding my father’s opinion, huh? I wonder, when would that old man just stop butting in between my life! His deliberate actions make me hate him even more than ever."

Grumbling his vent aloud, when Zenith was about to turn around to head back inside the hospital, Mr. Clark grabbed his arm from behind before urging in a serious voice, "Next week, I do think you remember that it will be Madam’s 13th death anniversary. As always, I hope you will show up in the mansion this time too, Young Master."

The furious expression on Zenith’s face was suddenly replaced with a cold blank face as his pitch black eyes grew dim. He couldn’t utter a word word and stood still for a moment, leaving an anticipated silence between them.

With a heavy exhale, lowering his eyes down, Zenith yanked his hand away from his grip, while answering him with a small arc of sad smile, "Just thinking about visiting that mansion churns my stomach from disgust. But...yes, I will still come, otherwise, Mom will be hurt because of me."

His words made Mr. Clark gaze still at him as he could vividly see the deep sadness that Zenith was trying to mask beneath a smile.

"Also, Young Master—"

"What do you need more from me?" Zenith sounded a bit irked when Mr. Clark summoned him again this time as if his mood was already soiled from their discussion involving his father.

But Mr. Clark gulped and mustered his courage to relay his words, "Today whatever has happened, rest assured that I will keep it a secret from the President. But, you have to promise me...if I ask you a favor next time we meet, you won’t refuse me."

Mr. Clark’s curious words made Zenith raise his left brow when he asked back, "What do you mean? What kind of favor?"

"Let’s not get into the details now." Trying to avert the details in between their conversation Mr. Clark politely smiled at him, "I just want your word that you wouldn’t refuse me if I ask you a favor. And I know, an Alpha would never go back on his words."

"Hah...fine, whatever." Zenith shrugged using his adamant tone while he brushed off the shimmering silver hairs above his forehead. A quick thought hit his mind immediately when he urged him next with a cryptic smirk, "But in exchange for granting you a favor, I would like you to provide me with a handful of trustworthy men who would follow my every order from now onwards, without a question back."

"Huh?" Startled by his sudden demand, Mr. Clark pushed his glass frame above his nose ridge before he asked in a curious tone, "I can arrange some for you, but...Young Master, why would you need them? If you have any orders, you could easily ask me that—"

"As I said, no questions in return. It applies to you too, Mr.Clark." Coldly shutting him off with his crude answer, Zenith shrugged before he attempted to head back to the hospital, "You can go back now using a separate car. I would like to drive him back to the Academy on my own, so give us some privacy, will you?"

"I...understand, Young Master." Despite having countless questions roaming inside his mind with his sudden demand, Mr. Clark didn’t oppose him anymore while offering him a small nod.

As he watched Zenith heading back inside the hospital building, he couldn’t help but ponder with a concerned gaze fixated on him, ’Through your words and gestures, why did it feel as if you were trying to hide something from me, Young Master? Now I do wonder, will it really be a wise choice to let that boy stay by your side?’

The moment Zenith stepped inside the hospital corridor after parting ways with Mr. Clark, suddenly he felt the strength on his legs had been drained away as he crouched down over the tiles. His heart was thumping aloud and all the stoic attitude which he had been keeping up before Mr. Clark had faded away, exposing his nervous state as he wiped off the sweat beads forming on his forehead.

’I should keep Kylian away from Mr. Clark for the time being, especially when he follows every command that old man gives him...’ Pondering on his own, his thick brows frowned a little when he continued mumbling to himself, ’I should never trust anyone except Dr. Albert with his secret for now, it might be dangerous for him now.

’But I do not know it myself...why am I going this far to protect that stubborn hot-headed boy?’

~ "Because you are attracted to him. I think you are too blockheaded to realize that. So, accept the truth, Zenith, as soon as you do, it will be helpful to you." His wolf Goliath’s voice vibrantly echoed inside his head, making Zenith wince as he wasn’t expecting that all of a sudden.

With a reddish flustered hue tainting his porcelain cheeks, Zenith scratched the nape of his neck which he often did while getting shy. Brushing his hair above his forehead, he grunted at his wolf, "Shut up. I don’t want you to sprout nonsense at this moment. That isn’t possible in my case, don’t you know me, Goliath?"

~ "But I am telling the truth, you should admit it soon—"

"I said just shut up, will you?"
