Chapter 208: Familiar And Underwater City

Thankfully, it wasn’t a marriage proposal. But even so, her offer wasn’t really an offer.

“Take me away, and I promise to be loyal to you,” Medusa said confidently, raising her hands to her head.

The snakes, or rather, her ‘hair,’ began to regrow as she glanced back at him.

“I-I know we might’ve gotten off on the wrong foot, but I swear, I thought you were an enemy,” she added. “Most who come here usually try to kill me and take my head for themselves.”

“Mhm…” Rael trailed off, glancing at her HP.

—Medusa (Leader Class Boss) [Level 684] [14.22B/74.86B]

She still had a lot of HP remaining, but if he left her to bleed out, she would’ve died within a few hours.

Even if she was technically a boss monster, most of his attacks were deadly. He’d also made sure to add a property to his Violin Blade that prevented her from healing.

Though, that health potion canceled it out… Rael grumbled. I’ll have to make sure it doesn’t cancel it out in the future.

“So, you don’t think I’m your enemy, then?” Rael asked. “I clearly tried to kill you. Kinda failed, though.”

“Well… you tried to talk to me first,” Medusa replied. “That’s a lot better than what the others did.”

“Aha… right.” Rael sighed and decided to take this seriously.

“So tell me, what can you offer me that actually makes you worth keeping?” Rael asked coldly. “Because as it stands, by killing you, I would gain enough experience to level up past level 400. I would become much stronger. And as for your head? Why would I even need it?”

Medusa tilted her head. “People think Petrification is useful…?”

“And?”

“Okay… look.” Medusa’s brows twitched. “Loyalty is something we Gorgons abide by. I can’t escape from this water prison by myself since there’s a seal on it… but if you break the seal and take me away, then I’ll finally be free to serve whoever I want.”

Hmm… unleashing a level 600 calamity doesn’t seem like a bad idea. Rael nodded to himself.

Except the idea was pretty shit.

Yet despite all that, he could tell she wasn’t lying since his Primordial Sight skill wasn’t triggering in the slightest.

Plus, having a companion of that level was definitely a massive boon.

As much as he wanted to debate this scenario further, he was on a timer.

The sooner he rescued the Duke’s daughter, the better the rewards.

So Rael simply stepped back from her and glanced around, searching for the seal she was talking about.

And it didn’t take long to find.

There was a small altar right in the center of the temple, so he walked toward it.

There was a tablet with some strange engravings on it, but since he couldn’t exactly understand hieroglyphs, Rael broke the tablet off and tossed it inside his inventory.

And in the very next moment, water began to flood the entire temple again.

“There you go. I’m Rael Sutekh, by the way, King of Celestara,” Rael said. “Travel to Celestara by yourself. I’m a bit busy, but I’ll make sure my wife knows you’re coming.”

He suddenly halted. “Oh, and before I forget…”

Rael might’ve gotten a bit of cash by hijacking the bodies of the nobles and sending himself money.

But aside from that…

He swiftly bought the goggles and tossed them over to Medusa.

“Wear them at all times, preferably. Also, make sure to put on a hat so you don’t accidentally turn someone to stone,” Rael added.

It seemed like she couldn’t even process what was happening since it was all so sudden.

But as he was about to leave and dive deeper to look for a certain someone, Medusa stopped him.

Or rather…

Hmm…?

“It’s the least I can do to show my loyalty,” Medusa stated as she slowly stood up, then bent the knee. “I, Medusa of the lower realms, swear my allegiance to you, Rael Sutekh.”

“I see…” Rael slowly nodded before readily accepting. “Sure, why not.”

“Now that we’re done, go to Celestara. I have a few things I’ll need your help with,” Rael said with a serious expression.

After all… when the dwarves begin fixing the elevators, having a carpenter who could turn objects to stone was always welcome.

Medusa stared at him for a few moments before suddenly jumping up and breaking through the patched-up hole of the temple.

He watched her figure swim up to the surface, and in the meantime, Rael began heading down instead.

This was definitely an encounter he didn’t expect, but he couldn’t say he didn’t appreciate it.

Her level is pretty good, and her abilities are especially unique. Definitely going to be useful in the future, Rael thought, navigating through the water currents.

The river that ran between Aztera and Drivania was nearly as deep as the ocean, and despite its small size on the map, it was actually pretty damn massive.

Anath Valentine, the Duke’s daughter and the renowned alchemist, was hidden deep beneath the Aztera and Drivania river.

She was kidnapped by the Drivanians, but the Azterians took her back… then someone else kidnapped her and forced her to become an alchemist, Rael recalled. I don’t remember which group it was, but it’s probably some sort of group affiliated with Drivania.

He kept going deeper and deeper, until finally, he noticed a faint light.

He headed straight for the lights, and the closer he got, the more outlined they seemed.

It was like an underwater city of sorts, and it was surrounded by a barrier that likely blocked off all unwanted intruders.

But Rael merely approached it and swam past it.

He immediately fell as the water suddenly ended, replaced by air the people living here could breathe.

Just as he was about to splatter on the ground, he summoned Burger and used it as a trampoline to launch himself into a better position.

And when he finally landed and glanced around, his eyes widened in awe.

This city looks so much better in reality than it did in the game.
