“Void-Breaking Starry Eyes, open for me!”
Two beams of golden light shot out from his eyes, illuminating the Barrier, where swastika Buddha Seals began to manifest. Wukong was shocked—this Barrier actually had such a significant reaction!
Not good!
He would be discovered!
Feeling anxious internally, Wukong exerted his full strength to stimulate the Void-Breaking Starry Eyes, erasing the emerging swastika Buddha Seals at the fastest speed. He could no longer worry about alarming the Tathagata Buddha; breaking through the Barrier and entering was the priority!
“Go!”
The Barrier opened just a tiny hole, and Wukong plucked a strand of monkey hair, blew on it, and it transformed into a figure that rushed out of the Great Thunder Sound Temple. Meanwhile, he himself turned into a wisp of blue smoke and slipped through the tiny hole into the hall.
“Whoosh!”
Just as Wukong had entered the hall and the gap in the Barrier was resealing itself in less than a breath’s time, a figure flashed, and the Tathagata Buddha appeared before the Barrier of the great hall. His gaze swept over the Barrier, where he could still see fluctuations.
“Someone attacked the Barrier, but who?”
The Tathagata Buddha’s eyes flashed sharply as he released his Divine Sense to check the surroundings and immediately discovered the monkey hair clone that was rushing out of the Great Thunder Sound Temple into the clouds. His expression instantly became stern: “Sun Wukong? Is it him?”
Having recognized it was Wukong, the Tathagata Buddha didn’t pursue him. Wukong’s strength had long surpassed that of the war with the Heavenly Court years ago. Although the Tathagata Buddha’s Cultivation Strength had also improved greatly, he wasn’t eager to confront Wukong just yet, especially since this was the Western Heaven Spiritual Mountain, the foundation of the Buddhist Sect. A fight here could potentially damage the foundation of Spiritual Mountain.
“This Demon Monkey must be here for Zi Xia Fairy!”
A cold smile curled at the corner of the Tathagata Buddha’s mouth, and his gaze returned to the Barrier. He had strengthened this Barrier specifically to prevent Wukong from sneaking in and taking Zi Xia Fairy away.
The Tathagata Buddha was of course aware of the connection between Zi Xia Fairy and Wukong. Initially, he had taken away one of Zi Lan Fairy’s spirits and painstakingly arranged for it to merge with the wick of his spiritual lamp to create a paired Lamp Wick, identical in origin and hence making it easier to control the reborn Zi Xia Fairy, thereby constraining Wukong.
The Tathagata Buddha knew early on about Zi Xia Fairy’s departure to the Mortal Realm and hadn’t stopped it, intending to let Zi Xia meet and recognize Wukong. Otherwise, how could he use Zi Xia Fairy to threaten Wukong if he was unaware of her identity?
The Tathagata Buddha wasn’t worried about Zi Xia Fairy not returning. As long as she was one and the same with Qing Xia Fairy and the paired Lamp Wick remained in his possession, Zi Xia Fairy would have to obediently return to Spiritual Mountain.
With a wave of his hand, the Tathagata Buddha opened the Barrier and stepped inside. Although Wukong had left Spiritual Mountain, he still intended to visit the Sukhavati Realm to check it, lest the Monkey’s ruse elsewhere spoil his plans!
Inside the great hall, all was quiet; the spatial passageway to the Sukhavati Realm hadn’t been activated, suggesting that no one had entered.
Still, to be safe, the Tathagata Buddha immediately opened the spatial passageway and stepped through.
After his presence vanished within, Wukong emerged from a corner.
“I knew Tathagata Buddha, that bald donkey, wouldn’t rest easy and would come to check; it’s exactly as expected!”
Sun Wukong sneered. After entering the main hall, he did not rush to open the spatial passage to the Sukhavati Realm but concealed his figure and breath in a corner, waiting for the Ancestral Buddha to come and check. Once the Buddha did, he could follow him into the Sukhavati Realm without having to use the Void-Breaking Starry Eyes, thereby preventing the Buddha from discovering that he had not yet left Spiritual Mountain.
With a flash of his form, Sun Wukong entered the spatial channel. Before exiting at the other end, he paused and listened carefully to check if there was anyone outside the channel. It seemed that there was no one there.
He felt a pressing sensation from behind him as the spatial channel began to shrink and disappear. Sun Wukong dared not delay and transformed into a small flying insect, flitting out and landing on a flower petal. He looked around in all directions.
No one was there!
The Tathagata Buddha had long since flown far away!
With a flash of golden light in his eyes, Sun Wukong, still in his insect form, activated the Void-Breaking Starry Eyes. He saw a series of faint Buddha’s Light, remnants of the path the Buddha had flown. Immediately, he vibrated his wings and followed.
Inside the Heart-Locking Pond of the Sukhavati Realm, two figures were imprisoned in the pond’s waters, their limbs and bodies firmly bound by chains formed from the water, rendering them completely immobile.
“Zi Xia, do you truly think that Sun Wukong will come to rescue you? Don’t be foolish, no man is worth it!”
Qing Xia Fairy’s face was filled with resentment, her grudge against Sun Wukong had not lessened in the slightest, in fact, it had deepened. Had it not been for Sun Wukong, Zi Xia Fairy would still be her beloved sister, and the two of them could be happily wandering mountains and rivers. How did they end up imprisoned by the Buddha in this wretched place?
“I actually hope he doesn’t come!”
Zi Xia Fairy shook her head. After returning to Western Heaven Spiritual Mountain, she and her sister Qing Xia Fairy were imprisoned together in the Heart-Locking Pond of the Sukhavati Realm. The Tathagata Buddha didn’t mistreat them much but just trapped them there. Zi Xia Fairy knew very well that the reason the Buddha had done this was to use her as bait to lure Sun Wukong. The area surrounding the Heart-Locking Pond was already ensnared with the Heavenly Net, just waiting for Sun Wukong to fall into the trap!
“Even now, you still defend that damned monkey!”
Qing Xia Fairy exclaimed angrily, “Zi Xia, come to your senses. For that stinking monkey, it’s not worth it!”
Zi Xia Fairy smiled bitterly and shook her head again, choosing not to speak further. Her eyes, however, clearly conveyed her inner thoughts. Qing Xia Fairy could only stare at her sister with a look of frustration, then turned her gaze back to the pond in front of her, grinding her teeth in rage as though Sun Wukong was standing right before her.
“You two foolish girls, you still have the leisure to chat!”
A snort from beside the Heart-Locking Pond broke the silence as Ran Deng Buddha’s figure appeared beside the pond, looking at Qing Xia Fairy and Zi Xia Fairy imprisoned in the water with eyes full of contempt and disdain.
“Really, I can’t understand why the Ancestral Buddha would go to such lengths to imprison you here. Just to deal with that Demon Monkey? It seems like an over-exaggerated effort!”
Ran Deng Buddha sneered, “You’d better pray that the Demon Monkey Sun Wukong genuinely cares about your lives and walks into this trap willingly. Otherwise, you’ll just be trapped here until you die! The water of this Heart-Locking Pond isn’t something you can endure easily!”
“Ancient Buddha, if you want to deal with that stinking monkey, just go find him yourself. Why make things difficult for us?”
