Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Under attack

Axelius gritted his teeth, frustration written all over his face. "Damn it! There’s so many of them in the sky!" he spat, his fists clenched tightly. Owen bounced practically yelling, "It’s safer in the forest! Don’t even think about doing something reckless, Axel!"

Axelius glanced back at the towering trees, shadows stretching like dark fingers, but there was no time to think. He grabbed Millie’s hand firmly, his grip strong and unyielding. "Come on!" he shouted, pulling her along.

"Y-Young Master!" Millie stammered, nearly stumbling over her own feet as Axelius dragged her forward, his eyes locked on the thick cover of the forest. The branches stretched like protective arms, promising shelter from the chaos above.

But before they could make it, a deafening roar split the air. Millie’s eyes widened in horror as she saw the massive shadow swooping down from the sky. "Young Master!" she screamed, her instincts taking over. Without a second thought, she threw her arms around Axelius, yanking him to the side with all her strength.

They tumbled to the ground just as the wyvern’s massive claws scraped against the dirt where they had just been standing, ripping up chunks of grass and earth. Dust and debris filled the air, and the force of the near-miss left their ears ringing. Millie held Axelius tightly, her breath shaky, her eyes squeezed shut.

"Back! Back!" Owen bounced to the hole "It’s coming back!"

Axelius turned his head, The wyvern, massive and menacing, had landed right in front of them, its wings stretching wide, blocking any escape. Its eyes glowed with a crimson light, and its scales shimmered with a metallic sheen. It snarled, thick streams of smoke puffing from its nostrils.

"No time, Millie! Move!" Axelius shouted, Without waiting for her response, he grabbed her hand again, practically dragging her back toward the iron-grated hole. They stumbled and crawled, dirt smearing their clothes as they scrambled desperately back inside.

Millie squeezed through first, her small frame slipping under the grates with surprising speed. Axelius followed, his shoulders scraping slightly against the sides as he pushed through. Owen bounced, "Hurry, hurry, hurry!"

As soon as Axelius’s feet were safely back inside the estate walls, Millie hurriedly replaced the metal grates, patting the dirt over it to hide any sign of their escape. They were both breathing heavily, dirt streaked across their faces and clothes, hair tangled and messy.

"That... was insane," Owen muttered,

"Y-Young Master, we have to find someone!" Millie panted, looking around wildly. "We need to find the guards or... or maybe Sir Elias! He’ll know what to do!"

As they hurried back inside, the alarm horns continued to blare, their deep, echoing calls vibrating through the stone walls of the estate. Every blast was a reminder that danger was near, and the entire mansion was now alive with movement. Guards rushed through the corridors, their armor clanking as they shouted commands, while maids gathered in clusters, whispering with fear in their eyes.

"Looks like everyone knows now," Owen bubbled, his slime form jiggling slightly as he rested on Axelius’s shoulder. " The whole estate is on high alert."

"Good," Axelius muttered, his fists still clenched tightly. "At least they’re doing something."

Millie, still catching her breath, guided them through the winding halls, her eyes darting nervously around every corner. "Young Master, we should find Sir Elias. He would know what to do," she urged, glancing back at him with worry.

Axelius nodded, determination shining in his eyes. "Then let’s go find him."

They rounded another corner and nearly collided with two heavily armed guards. One of them straightened immediately. "Young Master Axelius! Millie! Are you hurt?"

"We’re fine," Axelius replied quickly. "Where’s Elias?"

"Sir Elias is at the main hall, coordinating the defense," one of the guards answered firmly. "The Duke ordered full lockdown. No one is allowed out, and the barriers are being reinforced."

"Good," Axelius said, nodding sharply. "Take us to him."

The guards exchanged a look but didn’t hesitate. "Follow us, young master."

"I didn’t expect a wyvern to be swooping down either," Axelius muttered.

The flapping of giant wings roared above them, dust swirling wildly as the wyverns descended, their eyes gleaming with hunger. The guards were quick to react, their swords drawn as they formed a protective circle around Axelius and Millie.

"Incoming! Get down!" one of the guards shouted, his voice firm and unyielding. Without hesitation, they all ducked, barely avoiding the sharp claws of the wyvern as it swooped low, its wings cutting through the air with a menacing whoosh.

"Goblins! They’re jumping down!" Millie gasped, her eyes wide with terror as several green-skinned creatures leaped from the wyvern’s back, landing with sickening thuds. The three guards didn’t hesitate; they raised their weapons and charged forward, clashing with the goblins in a flurry of steel and snarls.

"Go inside! Protect Young Master Axelius!" shouted two of the guards, still engaged in fierce combat. The third guard nodded, urgency clear in his eyes. "Come, Lady Millie, Young Master, this way!"

Millie grabbed Axelius’s hand tightly, and they began to run, Owen bouncing wildly on Axelius’s shoulder. But just as they reached the corner, two more wyverns crashed to the ground, blocking their path, their wings stretching wide and shadows looming over them. The creatures snarled, their riders—more goblins—brandishing weapons and grinning with sharp, crooked teeth.

"I’ll hold them off!" the guard shouted, stepping forward with his sword raised. His eyes were fierce with determination. "Go, Millie! Take Young Master to safety!"

Millie hesitated, looking back with worry, but the guard’s expression hardened. "Go! Now!" he barked, slashing at the first goblin that came too close. Millie clenched her jaw, grabbed Axelius’s arm tighter, and began to run, her breath ragged with fear.

"We have to move faster!" she panted, her hands shaking as she dragged him along. Owen, still clinging to Axelius’s shoulder, bubbled nervously. "This is bad! Really bad!"

But just as they cleared the path, a shadow loomed over them. Millie’s eyes widened as a wyvern swooped down from the sky, its talons stretching out. "Look out!" she screamed, but it was too late.

The wyvern’s sharp claws hooked around Axelius’s shoulders, its grip iron-tight as it yanked him off the ground. "Arghh! fuck! It hurts!" Axelius cried out, feeling the claws dig deep into his skin, blood beginning to trickle down his shoulders. His vision blurred from the pain as the ground grew farther and farther away.

Owen tumbled off Axelius’s shoulder, hitting the ground with a squishy bounce. "Axel!" he shouted, his voice frantic as he watched his friend rise higher and higher.

Millie covered her mouth in horror, her eyes filling with tears as she screamed desperately, "Young Master Axelius! No! Young Master!" She tried to run after them, her hands reaching out hopelessly, but the wyvern’s wings flapped hard, sending gusts of wind that knocked her back.

"Somebody, please help! Young master is taken! Help!" Millie shouted, her voice cracking with fear and desperation as she watched Axelius disappear into the sky, held captive by the monstrous wyvern. Guards in the distance began to shout, horns blared louder, and the estate erupted in chaos.
