Reborn to Outshine My Ex and His White Moonlight-Chapter 289 Shouldn’t Have Asked
Chapter 289: Chapter 289 Shouldn’t Have Asked
Feifei didn’t directly tell Lin Zhiyi where the restaurant was, she just said she wanted to give everyone a surprise.
Lin Zhiyi had prepared herself for a big spend and didn’t ask further.
Near the end of work, she received an invitation from Sang Li.
"Shall I come pick you up later?"
"No thanks, thanks to you, I got a big bonus and am taking my colleagues out for dinner."
"Then aren’t you going to treat your sugar daddy to dinner? That wouldn’t be right, would it?"
"I’m off tomorrow, I’ll cook for you."
Lin Zhiyi typed quickly and sent the message without hesitation.
Since she had followed Gong Shiyan’s advice, she had openly accepted Sang Li’s pursuit.
Although they hadn’t gotten together immediately, the two were currently in touch implicitly.
Just like most ordinary people’s pursuit, chat together, occasionally go out for a meal, then chat some more.
Such days were dull, but they relaxed Lin Zhiyi.
On the screen, "Sang Li" was constantly showing "typing".
After a long while, his reply popped up.
"Okay."
Lin Zhiyi couldn’t help but laugh at the image of Sang Li sitting at the table meticulously editing his message.
He was decisive at work.
As she thought this, she heard Feifei’s voice next to her.
"Zhiyi, let’s go."
Lin Zhiyi came back to reality and realized it was time to leave work.
She nodded and stood up, asking, "Where’s the restaurant? I’ll take a taxi."
Feifei patted her white coat, "No need, you can ride in my car."
Lin Zhiyi looked at her skeptically, but most of their colleagues had already left in their cars.
She could only politely say, "Thank you."
On the way to the restaurant, Feifei took a couple of detours then suddenly sped onto a deserted road.
Lin Zhiyi’s body almost lifted off the seat, she instinctively tightened her seatbelt.
Feifei pushed her sunglasses up her nose, her lips curling up with arrogance and disdain.
"Scared? I thought you were brave. You dare to snatch anything."
Lin Zhiyi steadied herself against the car door and turned slightly to stare at Feifei, "Have we met before?"
Feifei just smiled and didn’t answer.
The next second, she slammed on the brakes.
Due to inertia, Lin Zhiyi’s head almost hit the windshield, but thankfully she had grabbed the door in time.
Feifei burst out laughing, "You look quite funny all flustered like that."
Lin Zhiyi took a deep breath, smoothed her hair, and calmly warned, "Miss Ye, you’d better think of a perfect excuse right now. Otherwise, with your speeding and stopping in the middle of the road, you’ve already violated traffic laws. This isn’t abroad; even if it’s less populated, it doesn’t mean there aren’t any cameras."
As soon as she finished speaking, a motorcycle cop had already stopped beside them.
Feifei couldn’t laugh anymore and directly challenged, "Why didn’t you warn me?"
Lin Zhiyi smirked, "You didn’t give me a chance."
After questioning by the cop, Feifei’s car was impounded, which left her stomping her high heels in anger.
The cop looked down and advised, "Don’t wear such high heels when driving; they can easily cause accidents."
Feifei, holding a long list of tickets, was nearly fuming from her flared nostrils.
Lin Zhiyi stood aside and directly hailed a cab, "Let’s go, I’ll treat you to a taxi ride."
After they got in the car, the driver pressed down the vacant sign.
"Where to?"
Feifei took off her sunglasses and glanced at Lin Zhiyi, "Yi Garden."
Lin Zhiyi frowned and involuntarily tightened her grip on her purse.
Feifei said with a smirk that was not quite a smile, "What’s wrong? You seem very nervous."
"No."
Lin Zhiyi looked out the car window, feeling somewhat depressed.
Could this Feifei also be one of Gong Chen’s romantic entanglements from abroad?
Gong Shiyan had clearly said that Gong Chen studied very hard abroad, many of his academic assignments were completed ahead of time, so how did he have the time to flirt with women?
Yi Garden.
When Lin Zhiyi and Ye Feifei entered the private room, the other colleagues had already sat down.
"Zhiyi, Feifei, come sit, why are you two so slow?"
Ye Feifei felt embarrassed, her face darkening.
Lin Zhiyi explained, "Miss Ye just returned to the country and isn’t familiar with the area."
The colleagues didn’t make a big deal of it, consoling, "Just drive around more, let’s order, we are starving."
Lin Zhiyi smiled as she took the menu, while Ye Feifei, sitting down next to her, whispered a warning.
"Don’t think I’ll be grateful for this. I despise women like you who are lowly and want everything."
Ye Feifei aimed to infuriate Lin Zhiyi, but she simply didn’t take the bait.
Instead, she turned around and discussed with other colleagues what to eat.
Ye Feifei snorted coldly and took out her phone, texting who knows what.
After ordering the food, everyone was merry.
When Ye Feifei’s phone screen suddenly lit up, she slowly stood up.
"Zhiyi, since we’re having such a good time, how can we not have wine? Why don’t you pick a bottle?"
Before Lin Zhiyi could speak, a few male colleagues had already started flattering.
"Miss Ye is so thoughtful."
"I was wondering what was missing. Zhiyi is now a regular staff, she can afford some wine."
As they finished speaking, everyone looked at Lin Zhiyi.
Lin Zhiyi saw no need to offend her colleagues over a bottle of wine, rising to say, "I’ll have the waiter bring over the wine list."
Ye Feifei interjected, "The regular list only has common wines. I heard that Third Young Master built a beautiful wine cellar for Yi Garden, all the good wines are in there. Didn’t you know, Zhiyi?"
"I didn’t," Lin Zhiyi said bluntly.
"That’s even better, you’re treating us today, it’s only right that you choose the wine, and you can take a tour as well."
Ye Feifei walked straight up to Lin Zhiyi and pushed her.
The waiter made a gesture, "Miss, please."
Lin Zhiyi then realized that Ye Feifei had set her up.
Stuck between a rock and a hard place, she had no choice but to follow the waiter, her face stiff.
Behind her, Ye Feifei crossed her arms over her chest and smiled.
Lin Zhiyi followed the waiter down the corridor, the moonlight casting a tranquil glimmer on the lake.
She stared at the lake for a few seconds, the undulating ripples making her feel uneasy for no reason.
She forced herself to look away and was about to turn the corner when the waiter accidentally bumped into her.
She collided head-on with a man also turning the corner.
With a clang, the man’s black cane fell to the ground, and then with a plop, it rolled into the lake.
Before Lin Zhiyi could react, a hand was braced against a pillar beside her.
A tall figure loomed like a tall mountain in front of her.
The familiar scent was enough for Lin Zhiyi to know without looking up who it was.
She pursed her lips, instinctively wanting to turn around, but her path was blocked by an arm on the other side.
She was trapped.
The man’s cold voice carried a suppressed emotion.
"Bumping into someone and trying to leave? Don’t you have anything to say?"
He looked at Lin Zhiyi, his gaze intensifying, his breaths feeling hot on her skin.
She tried to remain calm, but when she looked up to meet his eyes, the hand in her sleeve clenched slightly.
"Why use a cane?"
"Concerned about me?" Gong Chen’s eyes deepened.
"Third Young Master, you’re limping, I wouldn’t want you playing the victim."
"..."
Hmm.
Should have known better than to ask.
