Reincarnated Jester: Taming Players-Chapter 104: Truth Lantern
Chapter 104: Truth Lantern
She didn’t answer his question.
Continuing with what she was doing, Nero laughed and mocked the poor players.
They were slaughtered mercilessly.
Their blood and agony covered the village, but the only person who could save them was enjoying their misery.
"You fucking..." Jung yelled, teleporting to the nearest corpse.
Of the initial 108 players, almost 30 had already died.
It didn’t stop there.
The number kept increasing, yet Nero didn’t bother intervening.
Every single one of them used cursed pills.
However, not everyone could defeat a monster tier higher than them.
Only HugeP fared well enough to survive.
He became the same tier as Nightmares, and proving his skills, he managed to take down a couple of them.
Aiding fellow guild members, HugeP was doing something that Nero should have done.
Jung appeared before everything went astray.
Teleporting through corpses was a useful ability, and he didn’t have to waste time on running.
"Pussy cat, you are dead meat."
He roared at Nero.
Summoning his axes, Jung angrily glared at the cat and ignored her after that.
"Don’t panic! Stay behind front liners and attack from a distance. Remember, safety is above all else! Just because you can revive, it doesn’t mean you should die."
Balatro himself spoke.
Players saw his true power, the might when he was toying with a foe countless times stronger than them.
Hearing his words and feeling his closeness created a sense of security.
Now that he was there, their victory was guaranteed.
Not wasting another breath, Jung hacked his axes at the monsters.
Changing daggers to his favourite weapon created a familiarity that every other weapon lacked.
His movement was as delicate as always.
Not once did he use any unnecessary movements, squeezing his capabilities to the limit.
Jung lowered his stance and stayed on the ground.
He had abundant amounts of persona to use, but fighting on the ground, especially in the snow, made his heart beat in excitement.
Stepping forward to provoke a reaction out of the abominations, he abruptly stepped back while changing his trajectory altogether and attacking from a blind spot.
Jung had a flow.
There was no pause in his slaughter.
The moment he harvested a life, he was upon another monster to slay.
No delay, no hesitation existed, as if he engaged solely on instinct.
"Watch me and learn."
Deliberately slowing down, he used light steps, adjusting his centre of gravity while remaining agile.
Players watched and recorded his every move.
At best, it was questionable if they could learn something, but at least they enjoyed the show.
"Look at him go."
"I can’t tell if he is dancing or butchering monsters."
"Me too. I think I can hear music playing in my head."
"That’s not something you should be happy about. Consider visiting a doctor in your free time."
"How can an NPC be this cool? I’m a straight dude, and I’m falling for him."
"Same here, brother."
"Second to that."
Even though they conversed in a humorous tone, everyone was busy with their opponents.
Five to ten players fought against a single Nightmare.
Their overwhelming numbers easily changed the course of the battle the moment Balatro arrived.
Jung, on the other hand, cut down a monster and thought,
"One more to go."
[Truth Lantern] Tier I
Progress: 999/1000
Only one kill separated him from achieving his goal.
"It will be the most pleasant kill of my life."
He said and glanced at Nero.
"Maybe I should kill you instead?"
"Damn, you are strong, but I still believe I am above you."
She said proudly.
"Bullshit."
Jung didn’t agree, and searching for the remaining foe, he darted his eyes around.
Finally, he found his last target.
Closing his eyes and embracing the darkness, he reappeared before the monster, killing it on the spot.
[Congrats. What are you going to ask?]
Vex queried, even though his question could be guessed.
Jung took out the item, examining it carefully.
[Truth Lantern] Tier I
Progress: 1000/1000
He didn’t waste time pondering, as he had day and night to think of the question, yet only one lingered in his mind.
"Tell me Elara’s exact location."
The system transformed his words to suit how the lantern functioned.
Ten seconds later, it glowed in red and blue lights, illuminating Jung’s face to reach his brain.
He felt nothing, but information surfaced in his mind.
As he was comprehending the unseen text, the dark lantern crumbled in his hand, leaving only a handful of ashes.
"I’m on the right track!"
Jung exclaimed happily.
After decoding the knowledge he got, he even glimpsed her shadow.
He didn’t actually see her, but somehow he knew it was her.
Suddenly, he had a surge to shed a tear, and fighting against his emotions, he hid his face.
"She is here. Closer than I thought. Ruler God has her imprisoned, and I need to rescue her."
Nero reached him after jumping on frozen rooftops.
Seeing his face and hearing his words, she couldn’t help but say,
"You could have waited and checked for yourself. What if she isn’t there when you reach that place?"
It was a sound concern on her part.
Even Jung thought about it, but he couldn’t help himself.
He had waited for a long time, and if he was going to stay in this realm for a year, he needed to know her whereabouts.
"I don’t know. Call it brotherly stupidity."
Having said that, he neared the players and overlooked Nero’s claim that he was stupid in every other sense.
"All is done and good. Report your status."
He ordered HugeP.
The boy answered right away. "We lost 29 combatants, but they should revive anytime soon."
"What about their spawn points?"
"Still unknown."
Then Jung glanced at the battlefield.
HugeP saw his interest and said, "We are still collecting the pills, sir. But based on my estimates, there will be more than 300."
"I like the way you handle things," Jung said in a rare praise. "Let’s wait for others to revive, and we can keep going."
...Hours passed, but the dead players never came back.
