Chapter 45: First Two Trials

<Quest V: Pass the Academy Trials

«Rewards: Wizard Archetype and One Arc + One more Arc for Hero Archetype

"Finally!" Jung exclaimed.

It had been ages since he had got a power-up, and getting it for just passing the tests was a great surprise.

The Wizard archetype came out of nowhere, appearing with no previous warning and catching him completely off guard.

Jung had Nero, the companion whom he cherished and trusted.

She was a wizard, and Jung knew their closeness would increase even more.

However, he wouldn’t complain, especially when he was getting not one but two Arcs, including one for his hero archetype, from which he had got nothing, except a small boost to his physical abilities.

With an improved mood, Jung hopped around gracefully and followed Snowshade.

The woman was dedicated to her job and appeared serious and interested at the same time.

Ignoring her motivation, Jung only considered the trial and his talent.

For most people, this moment determined their future careers, potential, and role in the current society.

Jung, on the other hand, barely cared about it, as his thought process was limited to curiosity—knowing that with the system’s help, he already stood above all.

When Mira and Astra tried to explain the circumstances, he stopped them.

He had no desire to spoil his entertainment when he could have just experienced it first-hand.

As Jung strolled, climbing down the stairs and reaching the initial hall he saw in the academy, the primal thing he noticed was how large the entire room looked.

It wasn’t his first time seeing it.

But now that it was utterly empty, the hall appeared even more massive.

Snowshade didn’t like wasting time on meaningless activities.

Being the woman who acted above all else, she didn’t give enough time to enjoy the moment.

"Come here," she demanded, extending her hand towards the platform she stood on when Jung approached her.

"I am coming," Jung said, annoyed. "You are one big party pooper, you know that?"

His tone was mocking as always.

Of course, his blatant mockery didn’t escape from Snowshade’s ears.

"I don’t know what you implied by that, but I have a hunch that it’s not good."

But after seeing his silence, she hissed. "You will learn how to show respect,"

Snowshade promised, and without wasting more time, she touched the hollow space between the wall and Jung.

The warmth her hand radiated was enough to light up something.

Something that was downright invisible.

But not anymore.

Stirring, buzzing, and thriving, light particles covered the object hidden beneath the darkness, unveiling one small but majestic sphere.

Looking like an orb, this unique image was captured in Jung’s head, making a wonderful memory out of it.

This sphere was an object that wasn’t made of matter.

It was a huge amount of persona power manifested in magical artefacts, and its sole purpose was to gauge people’s acting talent, inspecting how well the human lived or might live with their corresponding archetype.

Pills were important, yes, yet if one wanted to overcome the bottleneck and rank up to the next tier, their talents played an even more significant role in it.

"Don’t be afraid; it’s not that scary,"

Snowshade teased after seeing Jung’s eyes, as they were sparkling with excitement, but little did she know, all he could think was the quest he could complete.

Though he liked and was even awed by the sphere, his anticipation came from a different dimension.

Smiling, Jung locked his way to the target and said, "Just touching is enough, right?"

Not waiting for this response, Snowshade still didn’t lose her head.

She understood the boy was peculiar and sometimes weird. "You can do that," she said, waiting for the results.

[I can hide your tier, the fact that you have three archetypes and your talent as well.] Vex suggested. [But I don’t think you want me to do that.]

Meanwhile, mewing in Jung’s head as she licked her paws, Nero said, "Even I am against you hiding all these things. I want to flex our might and show off."

’Should I?’ Pondering, Jung walked towards the orb.

He felt like his body was losing weight and becoming something he wasn’t.

The Messiah. The Chosen One. Hope...

All of those were the ways he would be perceived.

’But I should leave something for me. Not forever, yet long enough to stun the gods, Archeons, and the entire planet.’

Jung had lofty ambitions and goals, but he didn’t forget risks and his entertainment.

"Hide my archetypes, including Keeper."

After saying that to the system, he touched the orb.

Suddenly, his body should have been enveloped with colours, covering his being and getting a taste of his persona, yet none of that happened, and feeling the surge of energy, Jung knew that something had gone wrong.

[Everything is under my control,] Vex said, but the strange phenomenon persisted. [It’s just you are sucking the persona from it.]

"What is happening?" Snowshade asked, getting closer to help Jung, who appeared in extreme pain.

At the same time, Jung glanced at the system notification and yelled at the woman. "Stay back!"

<Archetype Progress: 0%—10%—15%—20%—25%

Snowshade halted her steps with careful consideration.

What if she made a mistake and her interference put Jung in danger?

As for him, Jung felt the same sensation when he swallowed pills and harvested power from them.

In this case, it was faster and stronger, making it harder to resist but pleasant to endure.

Two minutes went by, and the erupted chaos subsided, resulting in the silence Jung truly needed.

<Archetype Progress: 85%

"Damn it, a bit more and..." Jung almost threw a fit, but quickly collecting himself, he darted his eyes between the sphere and Snowshade.

The magical orb still contained an enormous amount of energy, as if not even a dent was left on it.

Studying the sphere, the woman crouched before it and uttered in disbelief.

"It’s showing some data, but whatever you did have never happened before." Her tone was clear.

[Told you I could control it,] Vex said proudly, and before Jung could speak to her, she was one step ahead and rang.

[Ding!]

Jung was about to check the notifications when Snowshade’s panicked voice echoed in the hall.

The woman almost screamed in doubt. "There is no way this is real. That’s impossible!"

Apparently, her reaction stemmed from the report she got from the sphere.
