Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 85: The High-Tech Mansion
Chapter 85: Chapter 85: The High-Tech Mansion
The space bangle had somehow expanded. Not only did the warehouse have more space to store more supplies, but there was another space outside the warehouse.
Before when Leng Pan entered the space, she would appear directly inside the warehouse and there wasn’t even a door to go outside because there was no outside to begin with. But now, a door had appeared out of nowhere and she could see the outside of the warehouse.
There was an empty piece of land, kind of like a small garden within a compound. Walking a couple of minutes would take you to a mansion that had just appeared. It was called a mansion but the kind of tech in it was something she had never seen before.
It was too advanced to be from this era. What made the situation more bizzare was the resonance that came from the bangle. It felt as if she had a prior connection with it.
She didn’t explore any further and withdrew her consciousness. Now wasn’t the time for that. Also the place they were in wasn’t exactly safe. She had to be careful and protect Lu Zhen while he adjusts to his own power changes.
After they had both rested, they decided to check out the building and see if there was anything worth taking before they leave.
They had been out for a long time and they were sure that their family would start to worry about them.
They went from floor to floor but didn’t find anything. It wasn’t until they went to the rooftop that Lu Zhen felt like something was calling to him. He didn’t know what was happening but he followed his instincts.
On the rooftop there was nothing except some benches that had been under the sun for too long and had become discolored and rotten.
There were also some flower pots with hardened soil that didn’t seem like even desert cacti could grow. On one corner there was a water tank that for some reason had burst open.
He couldn’t find what was attracting him to that place. It wasn’t until he moved closer following the pull that he picked up a small crystal shard from under one of the benches.
It looked like it had rolled there and from its lack of dust on the surface, it hadn’t been there for long. He figured that it had fallen the same night as the meteorites.
As soon as he touched the crystal, Lu Zhen felt his very blood turn in his veins. It was an intense reaction it almost made his veins burst.
However, it cooled down quickly and stopped reacting. As if it was just an ordinary crystal, but he knew that it wasn’t.
Leng Pan had been following beside her husband ever since he said something seemed to be summoning him to the rooftop.
At first, she had thought that it was like in the apocalypse stories where a zombie develops psychic abilities and uses them to pull humans into illusions and kill them.
But when he picked up the crystal, she knew that his feeling was genuine. She didn’t know what the crystal was, but somehow it resonated with the meteorite and the bangle.
"It looks like the crystal came from the same place as the meteorite." Leng Pan commented.
"Put it in the space for now. We can discuss it when we get back. We don’t know what these things are but they seem to contain some power. It wouldn’t be good if someone found out about them and they started to attack us to get them." Lu Zhen said as he offered the crystal to his wife for safekeeping.
He knew about the sun of a man holding wealth and treasure, he didn’t want to become a target.
The two then went back downstairs and Leng Pan took out their motorcycles and they ride home.
They didn’t use the same road as before and took a long detour to shake off and mislead anyone trying to follow them.
What the two had not expected was that they had already become the target of very dangerous and very greedy people.
By the window of the twentieth floor of a building one kilometer from the spot where the meteorite had been, a man put down his binoculars.
He had been there for two days to observe the reaction of zombies and determine whether the meteorite in the crater at the side of the road was one of the two ’Catalyst Cores’ mentioned by their leader.
He had noticed the reaction of the zombies and the changes that occurred in them.
He was almost sure that the meteorite was what their boss wanted. He was about to call and report when he saw a crane stop near the crater and two people, a man and a woman walk out and head towards the zombies.
At first he thought they were crazy not to be afraid of the zombies, but then he saw a dense mist appear out of thin air and surround them. He could no longer see them but he saw the moving mist.
What surprised him was the reaction of the zombies. They acted as if they didn’t ’see’ or since, smell the people in the mist and even moved a little to avoid them.
Whether it was because he was too far or the quality of the binoculars was bad, he didn’t get to see their appearance and also he could no longer track them as they disappeared into the large crowd of zombies.
He only reacted forty minutes later when he saw the mist, this time it was practically steaming appear at the edge of the zombie crowd again.
They were moving faster than when they went inside. They got into the truck and then drove away as the steaming mist also dissipated.
He didn’t think it was important to follow them as the meteorite was what mattered. He only noted the direction they drove in and noted that they were headed towards the suburbs.
