Rise of The Demon General-Chapter 461. Defending the Position
Chapter 461: Chapter 461. Defending the Position
Amon and Wu Di were near the stairs into the room with the winch. Bodies were all around them. These were the city guards who tried to go past them to reach the stairs. Despite their competence, they still couldn’t stop everybody. Two just slipped past them and went inside. Amon called out to the ones in the room to warn them.
If he could, he wanted to chase those two who slipped past. He couldn’t because a troublesome opponent was heading toward them.
The mayor of this uprising city, Pan Xisheng, had just broken through the six clan’s barricade. He was an Intermediate Spirit Stage cultivator. Not many could stop him.
"I never saw you before. Are you the government agents who infiltrated my city?" Pan Xisheng asked Amon and Wu Di.
Wu Di answered him with a scolding, "Your city? You are but a coward who steals! This city belongs to the kingdom!"
"The city belongs to the people!!" Pan Xisheng returned. He held something that looked like a book in his hand, but it was anything but a book. The covers and the inside pages were made of metal linked by steel wire. When he opened this so-called book, the metal pages spread out, with the steel wire holding them together. This effectively turned the book into a long whip.
Pan Xisheng swung this book-whip down. Amon and Wu Di jumped to the opposite sides and dodged the slash. The impact between the book-whip and the floor caused the words of power to flare brightly. Slight cracks appeared. The battlement was part of the wall, so it was protected by the enchantment. Otherwise, a strike from a Spirit Stage cultivator would have destroyed the floor.
Amon threw a couple of flying knives at Pan Xisheng while he dodged. The other end of the book-whip twirled around Pan Xisheng. It slapped Amon’s knives before they hit Pan Xisheng. The book-whip weapon could easily change from an offensive weapon to a defensive one.
The metal pages returned to Pan Xisheng and became a book again. His expression showed a slight surprise.
"Two Beginning Mystic Stage cultivators managed to dodge my attack...? At any other time, I would have found that impressive. Under the current situation, you are annoying me. However, I will still offer you a chance. Step aside willingly and renounce your allegiance to the kingdom."
"Fuck you!" Wu Di cursed. At the same time, he transformed into the Saintly Ape.
Amon also used his transformation art, the Great Virulent Serpent, but he didn’t answer Pan Xisheng with words. He again threw his flying swords for a reply.
"Fools," Pan Xisheng uttered. He flew forward. The book in his hand again opened. Its pages twirled around his body, slapping Amon’s flying swords without slowing his advance.
"Screw this!" Wu Di squatted. A shockwave exploded under him, and he shot upward. Without the protection from the wall’s enchantment, the floor under Wu Di’s feet would have shattered when he used the Jet Dash.
The speed provided by his movement art was extreme. He was almost upon Pan Xisheng within a second. His fist was ready to deliver a powerful punch.
Pan Xisheng didn’t even turn to Wu Di when the book-whip twirling around him suddenly changed direction. The book-whip slashed into Wu Di’s punching arm. Despite Wu Di’s increased durability from his transformation, the book-whip still sliced his arm with ease.
The slash stopped Wu Di’s advance. Pan Xisheng added a downward kick into Wu Di’s chest. The clear sound of bones breaking was heard when the kick connected. Wu Di shot back down and crashed into the floor while his cut arm dropped next to him.
Amon threw ten flying knives when Wu Di charged at Pan Xisheng. The knives came with uncanny timing right when Pan Xisheng used his book-whip to assault Wu Di. They also came from multiple different angles.
Yet, these knives also failed to reach Pan Xisheng because hot, fiery air exploded from his body. The defensive art was similar to the Scorching Field, which Yang Li had learned. The explosive air deflected all the incoming knives and charred them at the same time. Pan Xisheng’s book-whip, which had just struck Wu Di, turned towards Amon.
The book-whip was faster than before, but Amon sensed Pan Xisheng’s killing intent. He managed to dodge the attack again. This caused Pan Xisheng’s eyebrows to rise. He didn’t expect this. The first time, he wasn’t serious. This time, he was. To have his attack evaded by someone much weaker than him when he was serious. This caused him more than an annoyance.
The book-whip suddenly erupted with flames. It produced a small explosion as it suddenly changed direction again. Its speed was even faster now. Even when Amon detected the timing of the attack, he couldn’t evade this one.
He resolved to use his ultimate shield, his left arm, to block the attack. To Pan Xisheng’s consternation, his weapon failed to cut through Amon’s arm. However, his arcane art produced explosive fire on impact. This fire burned Amon, and the impact force sent him crashing into the stone railing.
Pan Xisheng didn’t let up. His book-whip advanced again. Amon used his left arm to block. Each block resulted in a burst of flames that burned him.
Despite the pain of getting burned alive, Amon counterattacked. His ceremonial dagger tied to the Xian Cloth flew at Pan Xisheng. Pan Xisheng was not flustered. His book-whip slashed at the Xian Cloth while its other end continued to assault Amon.
Pan Xisheng expected to cut the Xian Cloth to stop the ceremonial dagger’s advance. He was again shocked when his weapon failed to realize his intention. The Xian Cloth refused to be cut. The ceremonial dagger continued to approach. Pan Xisheng reacted late due to this unexpected circumstance. He was forced to use his hand to block. His palm, coated in fire, parried the ceremonial dagger.
He winched when he felt pain. This caused him to retreat and stop his attacks on Amon. He looked at his hand. His burning palm repelled the ceremonial dagger, but it managed to cut through the flames protecting his hand and caused a nick.
"Wang Xisheng! Why don’t you pick someone your own size!" A loud voice drew Pan Xisheng’s attention.
A man flew toward him. He made a sucking motion before blowing out a concentrated jet of water from his mouth. Pan Xisheng retreated further to dodge this jet of water. The jet of water chased after him. Pan Xisheng’s book-whip converged back into a book. He used this book as a shield to block the jet of water.
"Bing Lung, you are not my opponent," Pan Xisheng uttered.
"I might not be, but I’m not alone," Bing Lung replied.
Several Peak Mystic Stage cultivators attacked Pan Xisheng from other directions. They aided Bing Lung, who was a Beginning Spirit Stage, to keep Pan Xisheng away from the room with the winch.
Pan Xisheng was vexed by this interruption but was not upset. He said, "I am also not alone."
Five men in guard uniforms rushed toward the stairs to enter their target room. Two ran down the stairs, but the last three were stopped by Amon’s ceremonial dagger.
Amon was still down by the side due to the burned wound from Pan Xisheng’s assault earlier, but his ceremonial dagger was as if alive. Controlled by the Xian Cloth, it danced around, preventing the three city guards from following their comrades down the stairs.
The three tried using their swords to repel the ceremonial dagger but failed. Their swords ended up full of notches after clashing multiple times.
While the three were distracted, one of them realized someone was approaching. He realized it too late, though. Before he could react, a punch landed on his head. The punch produced two consecutive explosions that blasted his head apart. His headless body dropped to the ground.
Seeing that, his two comrades retreated.
"Had you not lost your arm?" Amon asked.
Wu Di was the one who crushed the city guard’s head just now. He had two intact arms.
"My Saintly Ape has tremendous recovery ability," Wu Di explained. "I can quickly reattach my cut arms."
"I see... That is one good transformation art," Amon said.
Amon stood back up. While his Great Virulent Serpent wasn’t as good as Wu Di’s, he had a restoration art that helped him recover fast. He had been using the Nine Moon Restorative Mantra, which had now reached master-level mastery. At this mastery, his recovery speed was further increased. Any superficial wounds, like small cuts or burned tissues, could be healed rapidly.
Wu Di chased after the two city guards who retreated. Amon stayed near the stairs. He looked at the situation. While they had things under control for now, it didn’t seem like they would stay like that for long. In the distance, several large groups were converging. Those must be the members of the other four clans that remained loyal to the mayor. Once they arrived, things would turn South very quickly.
"How is it going down there?" Amon called.
"It’s done!" he heard a reply.
