Chapter 65 -65: Visit Another Day

Carolline didn’t wake up till nearly five in the evening. When she got up, Bryan took her out for a seafood banquet full of foods she had never eaten before or couldn’t afford on her own.

Carolline gorged herself while Bryan ate at a leisurely pace. It was a stark contrast, but luckily they were dining in a private room, so nobody saw Carolline eating like this.

The waiters serving them— all of them high-quality staff— showed no unusual expressions on their faces.

As they were close to finishing, Carolline received a phone call from Emily. Due to rearranged itineraries, they returned one day earlier and were concerned about whether Carolline has had her dinner because they didn’t see her at home.

Carolline assured Emily that she was out eating with a friend. Emily asked when she would be back. Carolline said she would be back later, and Bryan did not object.

After hanging up, Carolline grew anxious. “So, I need to go home tonight. My parents are back, what about you?”

“Hmm, I’m going home too,” Bryan nodded, not making things difficult for Carolline.

Carolline sighed in relief. With the Mid-Autumn Festival only a few days away, Bryan’s grandmother wanted her to visit the Hawkins Family. However, Carolline had to have dinner with the Ruiz Family on the night of the festival. Therefore, she could only have lunch at Bryan’s place and had to return beforehand.

“Your grandmother asked me to come over for the Mid-Autumn festival. If you oppose, I won’t go,” Carolline, worried that their cover might be blown if they both appeared at home together, said.

“You should go. I won’t be home that day.” Bryan responded nonchalantly. “But, doesn’t your family have a reunion dinner during the Mid-Autumn festival?”

Family reunions during the Mid-Autumn Festival are traditional holidays that every household in Z country eagerly anticipates.

“Yes, that’s why I can only come over in the afternoon and return before dinner.” Carolline explained. The fact that Bryan would not be home that day left her feeling somewhat perplexed.

Although she understood Bryan’s busy schedule, she couldn’t help feeling a twinge of disappointment.

“Alright. I’ll let them know and try to be home before lunch,” Bryan replied, noticing the disappointment in Carolline’s eyes. He made a promise, though he really didn’t know if he could make it back then.

But once Bryan made a promise, he would do his utmost to keep it.

“Okay.” Carolline was suddenly in high spirits.

After a bowl of clam soup, Carolline was stuffed.

“What do your parents enjoy eating? Let’s pack some for them,” Bryan asked before asking for the cheque.

“No need,” Carolline shook her head. Her parents did indeed love the seafood from this place, but they only indulged themselves on special occasions, otherwise they wouldn’t find it right to live so extravagantly.

“Then we should get one of each specialty here,” Bryan instructed the waiter directly.

“Yes, Mr. Hawkins, please wait a moment,” the waiter was delighted. Just this table alone provided her with a hefty sum of commission.

“No, don’t,” Caroline quickly stood up, preventing the waiter from taking the order. The annoyed waiter stared at Carolline; anyone would be unhappy if someone were getting in the way of them making money. After being glared at, Carolline muttered, “Let me choose a few things.”

“Call your parents and tell them not to start cooking. They can eat something simple for now and I will take you home immediately,” Bryan decided, leaving the ecstatic waiter to place their order.

Within a short one and a half hours, Bryan had delivered Carolline to her apartment building. Carolline got out of the car, her hands full, and Bryan wound down the window to say, “I’ll visit them some other day. You go home first; call me if you need anything.”

He had to get back to dealing with some matters.

“Okay, drive safe,” Carolline instructed before deciding not to insist on him accompanying her upstairs.

However, she was thinking about how she was going to explain where she had gotten this extravagant meal from the biggest seafood restaurant in G City. The ideal option would be to tell the truth, and as for the reason, she could make up anything plausible.

“Okay,” Bryan nodded, indicating for Carolline to go up. He stayed to watch her go in.

Carolline had intended to watch him leave, but given his insistence, she decided to leave first. Otherwise, it would be awkward if they were to just maintain eye contact with other people around.

On her way in, Carolline was besieged by a number of people who recognized the takeout bag from the most renowned seafood restaurant in the city. “Yo, Carolline, did you just take a trip to heaven?”

“It’s leftovers. I don’t know if you’re interested,” Carolline said. She knew they wouldn’t take it, so she purposely offered it to them.

“Never mind, we all know you’re giving it to Dr. Ruiz. Hurry up and go. He must be dying to taste this delicious food,” someone laughed heartily.

Everyone worked in the same unit, Dr. Ruiz and Emily were well-known food lovers, which explained why Carolline was also a food lover. She had earned her reputation as a foodie in the People’s Hospital since a young age.

“I’ll go ahead then. We chat later,” Carolline said, blushing from embarrassment. She was not a very talkative person to begin with, and the offer of leftovers wasn’t exactly inviting, though everyone understood it was a joke.

“Go, go,” someone waved her away, and Carolline left.

When she got home, just as everyone had predicted, her father, Henry, was eagerly awaiting the delicacies she was bringing back. Even a small bottle of wine was ready to be paired with the peanuts while waiting for the feast Carolline was bringing.

“Seafood from the Seave Restaurant?” Emily, seeing the branded bag, exclaimed, “This one meal must cost half a year of your salary and bonuses. Who did you invite to this lavish feast?”

“Even you know I would go broke after a meal like this, I wouldn’t dare to be so lavish. Bryan is back, and he wanted to thank me for caring for his grandfather, so he invited me out today. He heard that you two are back, so he packed some food for you,” Carolline explained, having thought up her story while going up the stairs. “He also said that he will visit you guys another time.”

“He sure knows how to get along with people, and this is so extravagant. All of these are new dishes. Where’s the leftovers you were talking about? Wealthy people sure live differently,” Emily exclaimed as she opened each box.

“Let’s just eat,” said Henry, already picking up a lobster with his chopsticks and peeling it off into his bowl.

“Mom, Dad, go ahead and eat. I’m going to go take a shower,” said Carolline. Henry nodded, and she retreated to her room.

Emily kept her gaze on Carolline. She felt something was off but couldn’t quite figure out what it was.
