Chapter 83: Chapter EIGHTY THREE

- HAZEL -

My hand is hung backwards from the end of my bed and my back rests on the bed while my legs are raised to the ceiling. I’m using my phone.

Remember Caroline? I found her Instagram. Don’t ask me how, I just did but that was some stalker type shit. She doesn’t post much but she has a thousand followers.

I pinch my screen and zoom in. My other hand picks a chip and I munch. Can’t believe I’m invited to a party with a stranger. I finally have the chance to dress appropriately while in front of her.

A ball comes flying my way, hitting the wall my bed leans upon then bounces back. I freeze. What the fuck? The sound caused by that is deafening and imagine if that thing hit me? Hit my legs?! I could be crippled!!

Who the fuck is playing recklessly here? Does that person have a death wish?!

"I swear to god, if that ball comes flying here a second time, I will puncture it myself!" I yell, annoyed.

"Sorry." Jasmine’s voice bubbles in my ears. "See? I told you to be careful. Give me that!" Trails after. I assume she’s talking to whoever threw the ball. That person should be sent to jail!!

I roll my eyes and huff, returning my attention back to my phone. What lady only has one post of herself on her IG dated two years ago? This is infuriating!!

I feed myself to another chip. Snacking has been my favourite thing right from time. I enjoy doing it. Food is life. With chocolate of course. My lips form a line as I contemplate checking her saved story. It’s just one. If I do check that, she’ll know. I don’t want to come off as a stalker.

That would definitely be cringe. I’m not that desperate. I think I cope perfectly fine on my own. Plus, zero friends and my life has already been crazy with Kate, man I fucked who turned out to be her fiancé, school drama, sports drama and a broken ankle, Kaiden, my roommates with intriguing personalities, drowning and my indecisiveness.

Dealing with a breakup was the sole mark for the all these changes. Although, I’m glad. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

I never would’ve met Killian if I didn’t leave Tristan. I never would’ve known Tristan was a whore and my friend, Ivy, was two faced if I didn’t decide to give him a surprise visit. I would’ve been living with fake people.

I dip another chip in my mouth. I’m staring at this picture way more than I should.

Although I do wonder, if I met Killian when I was with Tristan, would everything be the same or would it be different? Would I have noticed him? Would I have found him attractive and be drawn to him?

I force myself to swallow the lump in my throat. Would I have been the first one to cheat? Or the one who would’ve been caught?

I mean, he’s with Kate yet I went after him.

I wonder how it would’ve been.

At least, knowing he’s in an open relationship makes me more relieved than I should be. Although everything is so confusing but I choose to stay out of it. The less I know about Kate and Killian, the better for me. Plus, Kate is going through a lot of mess at her end. I don’t want to make it worse by asking about redundant questions.

I dip my hand in the chip bag and felt nothing.

That’s odd. I take my hand out and squeeze the chip bag. It’s empty. My tongue rests on my teeth, sucking every remains and flavour of what I just had. I guess I’ll have some water.

"Hazel, someone’s here to see you." Ashlyn’s voice reverberates in the room.

"Really? Who?" I ask, still laying down.

"Me. Caroline." I sit up immediately, the moment I heard her voice. My eyes glues my phone then trails to her body. I hope she didn’t see that.

"Hey.." I call sheepishly. My eyes dart behind Caroline. "Thanks Ash." Ash blows me a kiss. I look back at the black haired beauty standing before me. She caught me putting on casual clothes again. What is with her and the worst timing?! Geez. "You came sooner than I expected." I say, getting my voice back.

"Needed to pass on the invite." Caroline says, handing an envelope to me. She has a warm yet devious looking smile on her face. Maybe it’s just her sultry appearance. I lean forward and take it from her. "You do have to open it now!" She gushes. "I can leave first before you do."

Right. I drop the envelope on my bed. "Will do." I say, containing my embarrassment and shyness.

"See you there. A lot of second years will be present." She adds. Just what I needed to hear. It would be awkward to bond if there wouldn’t be familiar faces.

"Sure. I’ll catch you later, Carol." I risk shortening her name. I wait for a second to see if she’d react negatively to that. She didn’t. Phew.

Some people don’t like their names being shortened, especially by people they just met and that is quite understandable. I mean, I hate being called ’Hazelnut’.

"Bye, Hazelnut." Carol says. My face flattens. Does everyone who knows my name think of that one the first day? Like come on!

A loud laughter beams from behind. "Ha! Hazelnut. I’ll use that the first chance I’ve got." That’s Savory. Knowing her, it’s not leaving her mouth so soon. She’s crazy. One of those friend supporters of unholy stuff just to make you feel better, because who on earth cheers someone on getting fucked by a professor?

My throat tightens. Well thank you Carol for introducing the name to my roomies. I’d shoot you a glare but I’m trying to keep a decent first impression.

I look up at carol, my eye twitching. "The dress code is there as well as every event that will unfold. I really would love for you to come." She says sweetly like she’s innocent.

I really would love me to come, so no worries there! I snap in my mind. It’s alarming how I have different thoughts from what I show outwardly. I like it. I can hide my feelings well. I guess I’m learning from Killian already.

Speaking of Killian, I should let him know I’m heading somewhere later today. In case he misses me and decides to foolishly show up here. My cheeks burn. That was a sweet gesture not to lie.

"Noted. I’ll read your invitation." I wave my hand. "Bye." My lips form a smile.

Carol waves and walks out of the room. The moment the door closes, I hear a whistle. "Damn, girl, who is that chic?" Jasmine asks, looking at the closed door. Her eyes traced Carol’s ass when she walked out. I noticed but didn’t say a thing. I can’t believe they were listening to our conversation.

"Someone I just met." I don’t know if I can call her a friend yet, considering I don’t know her.

"If I was gay, I would’ve hit." Jasmine beams.

Okay, too much information. Fyi, I thought she was gay, but I guess there’s a difference between a tomboy or a lady who loves boyish things and someone who loves girls that dresses all masculine.

[ Translation; fyi means for your information ]

"Yeah, she’s got nice curves and perfect hair. Plus her height!" Ashlyn chips in. I can’t believe they just met her yet they’re fawning over Carol already.

I mean, I did the same, but come on!

"Really? I didn’t see her." Savory yells. She finally comes to my sight. "I didn’t see her. How hot was she?" She tugs Ashlyn’s shoulder back and forth. "How on earth did I miss seeing a hot female?" Savory fakes a meltdown. "I mean, come on!"

"You might want to let go of my hand right now." Ashlyn says.

Savory grips her tighter, hugging her shoulder instead. "Noooo. Next time, you’ll tap me. I will jump right out of bed to bless my eyes with human hotness."

I roll my eyes and laugh. "You have no idea how bad you sound, Savory." I say.

"Don’t tell me shit, teacher fucker." I freeze. My roommates and I are not the only ones in my room and she just blurted that out. Fuck.

I glance at all the ladies in my room. None of them seemed to hear what she said. Or they’re pretending not to.

I gulp. I don’t know what to say. "Haha, sure, keep imagining scenes."

"Pfft!" Savory waves her hand at me, discarding what I said. They’re still fangirling Carol but I zone out of the conversation. I can’t have any more careless slips.

I stretch my hand to my side to hold the envelope. I open it.

Well this invitation card is fancy. It’s designed with a dark shade of red and gold that gives it a bloody valentine theme and I love it. I read what’s written inside.

It’s a huge, eerie, dark fantasy, game night bash. I wouldn’t miss it for anything in the world.

I pick my phone and exit Instagram. I need to text Killian and Kate.

I also need to do some shopping.
