Chapter 140 - End of season 1

The battlefield lay behind them in ruins—caves crumbled, monsters smoldered, blood stained the rocks. But the fire in the children's hearts only burned hotter.

Azrael Jr. soared above the village, his wings shedding sparks across the air. Beside him, Caelan clutched Rina tightly as they flew. Azariah and Lyra held each other on the ground, sprinting with wild speed through the forest.

The palace loomed in the distance, pillars of smoke rising like warning signals into the twilight sky.

They weren't fast enough.

They weren't ready.

They arrived to chaos. The palace was burning. Guards lay unconscious, tossed like rag dolls. No enemies in sight—just the eerie silence of a place recently violated.

Selene stood in the center courtyard, her sword drawn, her armor dented.

Cain knelt beside the Queen's throne—shattered.

Eira and Eren were helping evacuate what remained of the castle staff. Zara stood with her fists clenched, Rina's eyes already scanning the destruction with burning rage.

"What happened?!" Azrael Jr. landed hard, gravel cracking beneath his boots.

"Where are they?" Caelan shouted.

Cain turned his head slowly.

"They didn't want the throne."

Selene's voice was quiet. "They wanted... her."

Everyone turned. Where Lyra had been standing moments before—only her cloak remained, smoldering.

"No—" Azariah whispered, running forward.

"She was taken," Cain said, voice strained, like the words cut him to say aloud. "They left this."

He held out a black dagger, inscribed with a mark none of them had ever seen—a serpent wrapped in flame.

"They've awakened something worse," Selene muttered, eyes filled with fury.

Rina's voice was small but sharp. "Then we awaken something worse than them."

The flames behind her flared—blue and gold.

Azrael's jaw clenched. Caelan's eyes turned icy white. Azariah's palms trembled with power.

They stood, side by side, wounded... and ready.

But above them, in the darkening clouds, a silhouette watched.

Unblinking.

Waiting.

To be continued...
