Chapter 93 - Return of the bloodline

The sky above the mountain turned a brilliant shade of gold as the sun slowly rose, casting long shadows behind the worn group making their way down the narrow path. Their footsteps were heavy but sure. They had survived demons, betrayal, possession, and grief—and now, they were going home.

Back to the village.

Back to reclaim what was once theirs.

Cain led them, his eyes steady on the road ahead, the weight of leadership resting heavier on his shoulders than ever before. Beside him, Selene walked quietly, still nursing the dull ache in her limbs from the final fight. But more than that, she was watching him—watching all of them—like she could feel the wind beginning to shift.

Behind them, Leo and Eren laughed quietly over an old memory of the village market, their conversation slipping in and out of whispers. Even Eira—reborn but still touched by darkness—walked with them, her presence quieter now, the shadows of her mind kept in check. At the back, Neriah and their father followed, his steps weaker but growing stronger by the hour, his eyes full of emotion he hadn't spoken aloud yet.

The trees thinned, and the familiar outline of their village slowly came into view.

Cain stopped at the ridge above, the others gathering beside him. Below them was the land they had once called home—a village now overrun by false rulers, imposters who had feasted on the bloodline's disappearance like vultures on a battlefield.

But now, the bloodline was back.

And they weren't asking for permission.

Cain breathed in deeply and spoke without looking away. "We go in at nightfall. Quiet first. Let them think we've returned in peace."

"They won't," Leo said. "They'll see our faces and try to burn the whole forest down."

"Then let them try," Selene murmured, a cold edge to her voice.

Eren looked to their father. "Will they know you've been freed?"

He shook his head slowly. "Not yet. But they will. And when they see us together... when they see our unity—" He hesitated, glancing at Neriah. "They'll understand this isn't just a bloodline returning. It's a legacy reawakening."

That night, the village slept under the watch of a crescent moon.

The gates stood guarded, torches flickering in the wind, but the guards were lazy—arrogant. No one had dared challenge them in years.

Until now.

Cain moved like shadow through the trees. With a flick of his hand, the wind bent to his will, swirling softly until the fire in the guards' torches flickered out. In the dark, Selene weaved threads of magic over the gates, forcing the iron to dissolve like sand in the air. Eira swept past them silently, scouting ahead with the speed of the shadows she once served.

One by one, they slipped into the village, unseen.

Until Cain stepped into the center square.

The bell above the old council tower began to ring.

Lights burst on in windows.

Voices rose.

From the central temple, a cloaked figure emerged—the usurper queen, the one who had claimed the throne during their father's possession, had seized control and rewritten history.

She stared at them with disbelief.

"You," she hissed.

"Yes," Cain said simply. "Us."

She sneered. "You're fools to come back here. The people worship me now. You think you can reclaim what you lost?"

Selene stepped forward. Her hair shimmered silver under the moonlight, her eyes glowing white. "We didn't lose it. It was stolen."

"And now," Leo added, "we're taking it back."

Guards rushed from every corner, swords drawn.

Cain didn't flinch. "No more hiding. No more running."

He raised his hands. Flame burst from his palms in spirals of gold and red, wrapping around his arms like living armor.

Selene stood beside him, her power rising in waves, the very stones of the village beginning to shake beneath their feet.

Eren leaped into the air, landing on the tower's edge with wind at his back and light bursting from his fingertips like stars.

Leo moved between shadows, vanishing and appearing behind the guards, disarming them before they could strike.

And then—

Eira stepped forward, no longer hiding who she was. Her body glowed with a dark violet aura, a whisper of the demon she had once been. The shadows obeyed her now, bending but not controlling her.

The battle was swift but powerful.

Villagers poured out into the streets, but instead of joining the fight, many gasped in recognition. They saw the children of the real king. They saw the boy who had once fed them during droughts. The girl who had healed the sick. The twin sons who had danced in the firelight.

And slowly, fear turned to awe.

Swords were dropped.

The usurper queen screamed in rage, trying to unleash forbidden magic—but Neriah silenced her with a single spell, bound in the old tongue of the first witches. Her power swallowed the queen's in a blinding pulse.

The square fell silent.

Cain turned to the crowd.

"We were taken. Broken. Torn apart. And yet we found our way back."

He looked at each villager—at the children who didn't remember, the elders who did.

"We are not gods. We are not perfect. But we are yours. Your blood. Your legacy. And we will not leave you in the hands of thieves."

The people bowed. One by one.

Selene walked to Cain, placing her hand in his. "You've reclaimed the throne."

"No," Cain whispered. "We all did."

Behind them, their father watched with tears in his eyes.

And from the shadows, where guilt once ruled him, hope began to rise.

The village was theirs again.

But the kingdom?

That war was only just beginning.
