Chapter 950: 0950 I don’t blame you! (Fifth update)
"Our Clan Leader sure has a stubborn mouth!" Elder Jin Mu said helplessly.
"Let’s hope we can extract the whereabouts of the Primordial Pill from his son. With the Primordial Pill, we might be able to advance further," Elder Jin Shui remarked.
The task of interrogating Jin Wanshan fell to the two of them, but getting him to divulge the pill’s location proved to be quite difficult.
"I wonder how many Primordial Pills remain. If there’s only one, we’ll suffer a great loss, especially considering it must be handed over to the Mu Clan."
"Had I known, I wouldn’t have mentioned the Primordial Pill to the Mu Clan. Any pill obtained through interrogation could’ve been used by us instead. What a pity, Elder Jin Mu—you made a poor move," Elder Jin Shui said.
"The deed’s done. There’s no way we can cover it up anymore. We must hurry; if the Mu Clan doesn’t receive the Primordial Pill soon, we’ll both suffer the consequences."
Faced with the behemoth that was the Mu Clan—one of the three ancient clans—these two elders could only remain deferential. After all, without the aid of the Mu Clan’s experts, they wouldn’t have managed to subdue Elder Jin Feiyang and Clan Leader Jin Wanshan, let alone take control of the Jin Clan.
"Call those two boys, Jin Yunping and Jin Tianyi, in a while. Let’s see if they’ve made any progress interrogating Jin Shanshun," Elder Jin Shui instructed.
...
Mu Clan.
Mu Tianxing furrowed his brows. Lately, he’d been feeling a persistent sense of unease, as though something was amiss. He summoned his steward to ask whether anything had transpired within the clan that even he—the Clan Leader—might not be aware of.
"My lord, you’re overthinking it. The Mu Clan is in perfect order," the elderly steward assured.
"No, that’s not it. Before Disciplinary Officer Can Dou’s disappearance, I experienced the same feeling of disquiet. This time, something must have happened. Where is the issue?" Mu Tianxing insisted on his intuition, refusing to let his guard down. After a pause, he instructed, "Investigate the whereabouts of family members who’ve gone outside recently. Verify whether they’ve all returned—I want every detail meticulously checked."
"Understood. Is there anything else you would like me to do, my lord?"
Mu Tianxing reflected for a moment, his eyes flickering with contemplation, and said, "How goes the exploration of the Crystal Stone veins?"
"We’ve recently discovered several potential locations for Crystal Stone veins. Most of the others have already been ruled out as unsuitable sites. However, there’s one area where we’ve made no progress whatsoever."
"Oh? Why no progress? Are we short on manpower?" Mu Tianxing’s interest was piqued.
"No, that’s not the issue. The location lies at the edge of the Barbaric Wilderness Forest, and several exploration parties sent out were killed by the powerful entities lurking within the forest."
At the mention of the Barbaric Wilderness Forest, Mu Tianxing appeared momentarily dazed. That place was no ordinary territory. In this ancient land, aside from the regions occupied by the ancient clans, the Barbaric Wilderness Forest stood as a forbidden zone. The entities residing within were no less formidable than members of the ancient clans themselves.
Mu Tianxing’s expression shifted, and he resolutely said, "Spare no effort in continuing the investigation. If we confirm the presence of Crystal Stones there, the Mu Clan can rise to prominence in one fell swoop—eliminating any need to attend the Yun Shang Palace auction and bid for those pills."
"Understood," the steward replied.
Just as the steward was turning to leave, Mu Tianxing stopped him. "Remember—ensure that not even the slightest hint of our search for Crystal Stone veins is leaked."
"You can rest assured, my lord. We’ve maintained strict confidentiality. The Ji Clan and Shi Clan remain unaware of our quest for the Crystal Stone veins. Only the Mu Clan knows about the vein located on Duguzhi’s lands—it won’t reach anyone else’s ears."
Hearing the steward’s reassurance, Mu Tianxing relaxed, waving him off to carry out the tasks assigned.
"Why does this inexplicable sense of unease persist? Could it be that another Mu Clan prodigy has met their demise?" Mu Tianxing returned his thoughts to the nagging premonition troubling him.
...
When Jin Yunping and Jin Tianyi arrived at the underground chamber once again, Jin Shanshun was still hesitating, unable to make a decision.
"Why are they here?" Jin Shanshun was startled. They had promised him a full day, yet barely half the time had elapsed, and the pair had returned. This didn’t bode well.
"Jin Shanshun, we meet again," Jin Yunping said indifferently, sniffing the air. The stench of the chamber remained unbearable and pungent.
"Have you made up your mind?" Jin Tianyi inquired.
Jin Shanshun’s disheveled hair obscured half his face. Speaking brought him immense pain—his muscles throbbed with every word, as though his entire body were one tightly stretched cord. He rasped, "Didn’t you say I had a full day to think?"
"Hmph! We did intend to give you one day, but the elders summoned us earlier and gave us a severe scolding. So, we’ve decided to cut your time short—to now. Do you have any objections?"
Jin Shanshun remained silent. His life was in their hands; their word was law. But he couldn’t bear to reveal that Ye Qiu had already left the ancient land. Doing so would endanger his sister, Jin Zhimo. If those two beasts truly acted on their threats, Jin Shanshun would never forgive himself.
"It’s just a simple choice. Do you choose to save your sister, or do you continue to shield the whereabouts of that criminal? We’ll give you a few more seconds to consider. If you still don’t provide us with a satisfactory answer, then..." Jin Tianyi chuckled menacingly.
Jin Shanshun’s eyes flickered. Clenching his teeth, he resolved to betray Ye Qiu—his sister’s safety mattered most. He couldn’t remain indifferent.
"I’ll speak," Jin Shanshun finally said.
Seeing Jin Shanshun relent, Jin Yunping and Jin Tianyi exchanged smiles. "That’s more like it. Prioritizing an outsider over saving your own sister would’ve been truly foolish. Now, tell us—where is that criminal Ye Qiu?"
"He... is no longer in the ancient land."
"No longer in the ancient land? Then where is he?" Jin Yunping and Jin Tianyi asked simultaneously.
"The mortal world."
Upon hearing those words, the two immediately broke into smiles. They finally had information on Ye Qiu and could now report back to the elders.
"You should’ve said so earlier. Why endure so much unnecessary pain?" Jin Yunping sneered at Jin Shanshun’s slumped figure.
Jin Shanshun felt a pang of guilt toward Ye Qiu. He murmured, "Brother Ye, I’ve betrayed you, but I had no choice. For my sister’s sake, I had to do this. If we ever meet again, you can take my life—I won’t flinch."
"Brother Ye, I’m sorry."
Jin Shanshun continued blaming himself, riddled with guilt and shame. However, for his sister’s sake, he had no choice. He couldn’t fathom what horrors might befall her if he persisted.
"That’s enough for today. We won’t torment you further. We’ll inform the elders about the whereabouts of the criminal Ye Qiu," Jin Yunping and Jin Tianyi said as they prepared to leave.
Just as the two were about to push open the iron door and exit the underground chamber, a figure appeared, blocking their path.
"You... Are you...?"
"Haven’t you been searching tirelessly for me? Well, here I am."
As the pair backed away, the figure gradually emerged into the dim light by the door.
Jin Shanshun stared in shock at the figure, unable to meet their gaze.
The person standing there was Ye Qiu!
"Shanshun, you’ve endured much. Your decision just now was the right one—I don’t blame you!"
Ye Qiu smiled faintly at Jin Shanshun, his gaze free of reproach.
"Brother Ye..." Jin Shanshun was overcome with emotion, hot tears streaming down his face.
"I’ll free you now." Ye Qiu extended his hand and effortlessly shattered the iron chains binding Jin Shanshun. Moving swiftly, he supported Jin Shanshun, steadying him.
Taking advantage of the moment, Jin Yunping and Jin Tianyi bolted out of the chamber.
Jin Shanshun noticed their escape and cried out in alarm, "Brother Ye, we can’t let them get away!"
Ye Qiu chuckled faintly, his lips curving into a smile. "Relax—they’re not going anywhere. Even if they wanted to die, they’d need my permission."
