Chapter 37: MARRIAGE PROPOSAL 2

For a moment, Elisa was stunned at her stepdaughter’s words, she couldn’t believe Harlow would choose to lose her inheritance over something as common as marriage.

She even proposed remarrying Alanis just to escape it. Elisa frowned. She would never allow it, her Claudia wanted Alanis and him she shall have.

"You’ve made your decision Harlow, and we will grant your wish." Elisa started.

"If you do not marry Nathan Eagle, you will no longer be a part of this family, your inheritance will be taken from you as well as your stay in this mansion. You will need to fend for yourself from now on so that you will see what I and your father have to put up every day to provide for you." Harlow smiled and Elisa frowned.

It seems Harlow was yet to understand the gravity of the situation on the ground. Does she really understand what it feels like to lose your inheritance, your reason for living?

To be stripped of your entire existence?

Harlow didn’t stop smiling, she could leave without them, but could live without her?

She had returned to help her father and change the deeds of the past, but it seems her attempt had only cost more trouble. She had no family now, not even her father.

A man who’s willing to give her out to a man older is no father of hers. Her green eyes met his, begging that he change his mind, but for the first time, Frank’s face was indifferent.

"I hope you don’t regret your decision." She was speaking to her father more than she did to her stepmother. In truth, she had been the brain behind most of the success of their company through the past years, but no one knew about that.

"Timothy." The young man walked in, he was Frank’s assistant, he adjusted his glasses as he stepped into the now icy room. The heavy tension in the air turned him breathless.

"Y... You called s... sir."

"Lock all of Harlow’s accounts, she will now be fending for herself until she agrees to marry Mr. Eagles," Frank said coldly.

Harlow left the lounge after his words.

"Don’t worry Frank, she wouldn’t last for long out there before she comes crawling to be married to Mr Eagle." She smiled and Frank smiled. Though deep down he felt pity for his daughter, he believed whatever decision Elisa was making was right.

Harlow walked back into the room where Ava had successfully dressed the older woman.

"How did it go Miss Harlow what happened?" Ava asked. She had been curious herself, if Harlow hadn’t asked her to care for the elderly woman, she would have eavesdropped on their conversation. When she saw Elisa’s face this morning, she knew it was something bad.

Even if Harlow had feigned toughness before her stepmother, she broke down before Elisa, the only person who had seen her weakness since a child. With everything that was happening, she really needed a break herself, but she knew her battle was far from being over.

She has altered the cause of her former existence. And erased everything that happened in her past life when she rejected Alanis and divorced him.

"I just want to disappear Ava." Harlow’s eyes moistened. The father she thought she had wasn’t her father at all. He had looked at her so coldly today like he didn’t know who she was anymore.

She couldn’t believe he would agree to sell her out to an old man because of one failed marriage. Every family protects their own, but her family is willing to disown her because of her greedy step-sister and mother.

"Oh Miss Harlow, how could you say such a thing? If you disappear, where do you want me to go?" Ava’s eyes moistened too. Harlow was more than just her boss’s daughter to her, she was like family. The only person that loved her in this place. If anyone hurts her, they have hurt her too.

"Now now dears." Grandma Hamilton gestured her hands and both women went ahead to hug her.

"Tell me what happened granddaughter in law, did anyone hurt you?" Grandma Hamilton asked, her words breaking Harlow even more. She just needed a shoulder to cry on. She has held so much in that she feared her heart could burst at any moment.

Harlow cried on Grandma Hamilton’s shoulder like a baby releasing all of the pain she had held in. But this was the last time she would cry. She’ll get Elisa back, she just knows how to do it.

"Miss Harlow tell us what happened there, did master Frank hit you?" Elisa spoke warily but Harlow shook her head. She suddenly smiled and wiped her tears. Her stepmother thinks she could break her and steal her inheritance, but she’ll get back at them. She’ll make them the laughing stock and make her proposal.

"Father and mother kicked me out of the mansion."

*Gasp*

Ava held her lips, her eyes wide in shock. Frank Blackwood has always been known as a father who never plays with his daughters, so why did he suddenly disown his daughter?

"Why would he do that?"

"Because I refused to marry an old man," Harlow said. "It’s truly a long story Ava and I’m too exhausted to talk about it." Harlow sighed.

"Help me pack my things, Ava," Harlow said walking towards the bathroom.

"I’ll go with you, Miss Harlow." Ava suddenly said. She couldn’t live a minute in this mansion without Harlow, Elisa will make her life a living hell.

"It’s alright, you can come with me." Harlow smiled holding Ava’s arms, "Now wipe those tears, Ava, if you cry what will I do?" Harlow hugged her tightly.

"Now help me pack, so that we can leave," Harlow said.

"Grandma, Alanis will be here to take you home soon, so you don’t have to worry," Harlow said and quickly dashed into the bathroom before the old woman could say a word. She smiled at the young woman.

Never did she imagine she would see her again. The day Harlow was humiliated, after being escorted back into her Villa, she had seen Garth pushing naked Harlow out of the mansion.

Charlotte wanted to help her granddaughter-in-law. She had no idea things would go that far, she saw the maids and servants all laughing at Harlow, including Garth and her children.

They had humiliated her greatly and just when she wanted to speak up for Harlow, she slipped and all she saw was darkness. When she awoke, she had come to five years before, but this time, she had no dementia.

She was perfectly fine but still had to pretend to everyone. What she didn’t understand was why Harlow in this life was different. She was bold and stronger.
