The Devil's Betrothed-Chapter 731: I Can’t Help But Be Selfish When It Come To You
Chapter 731: I Can’t Help But Be Selfish When It Come To You
As the three of them continued talking, the others were busy cooking, and the meal was almost ready.
"Where’s Lucian?" Rafal asked.
"He left a while ago," Arthur replied, looking around. "I thought he went to relieve himself, but it’s been quite a while now. We should go look for him."
Just then, Lucian arrived, holding dried wooden branches and a few fish strung on thin ropes.
"More fish?" Nathaniel asked. "I thought we had enough."
"Happened to see more in the water, so I caught a few," Lucian replied, handing them over to Imbert.
"Good. These ones look bigger and healthier than the ones we brought before," Arthur commented. "You’re really resourceful."
"Did you step into the water?" Nathaniel asked, noticing Lucian’s pants, which were wet up to his knees. "Go get changed. There are some of my clothes in one of the rooms."
Rowan watched all of this with a wide grin. This guy! What else can I make him do under the pretense of what my sister wants? Next time, I’ll have him catch flying birds. Perfect revenge for my sister—until he gets on his knees in front of her. Seems like it won’t be too long.
Lucian headed toward the cottage to change into dry clothes, but he had to pass by the porch.
"Wait," Rowan called out.
Lucian stopped and listened.
"Your hand is hurt. You’re bleeding."
"Hurt?" Rina, who had been chatting with Erin, looked at his hand. "Brother!"
"It’s just a scratch, don’t worry," Lucian assured her.
Erin glanced at his hand, concern evident in her eyes.
"Tiny scratches don’t bleed like that, Lucian," Rowan commented. "Are you trying to be brave? Who are you trying to impress? Me? I hope you’re not into men. My sister? She’s going to be your sister-in-law, so no need for that. Rina? You’re already her hero."
Lucian ignored Rowan and decided to walk ahead.
"As you went to the trouble of catching meaty fish for my sister, I’ll let her treat your hand," Rowan added, causing Lucian to stop and turn to look at him.
Rowan glanced at Erin, who was clearly puzzled by her brother’s words. "You’re going to be his sister-in-law, part of his family. You should get used to taking care of them," Rowan teased, turning to Rina. "Am I right?"
Rina nodded eagerly. "His hand is bleeding. Lady Erin, please treat my brother."
Erin looked at Lucian, who seemed to be waiting for her to follow him. She shot her brother a look that clearly conveyed her frustration, but then, thinking of Lucian’s injury, she reluctantly followed him into the cottage.
Erin felt her heart unsteady at the thought of being with Lucian alone once more. He stopped and looked at her, "Sit by the fire place. I will look for the clothes."
Erin nodded and went to the fireplace. "We will need something to apply to your wound as well. I’ll go outside and prepare..."
"No need. Just sit there," he spoke and walked inside to go to one of the rooms.
’So dominating,’ Erin frowned and went to sit by the fireplace. After a while, Lucian retuned in changed clothes, and went to the fireplace and sat next to Erin.
"Your hand?" she asked.
Lucian showed it to her, it had a cut on his palm, which was surely deep. The cloth he tied around it, was soaked in blood which was now visible as he has removed his hand glove.
Though hesitant, she held his hand into hers, and started to remove the blood soaked cloth. "It’s deep. How did you get hurt?" her voice worry filled.
Lucian didn’t answer, as his gaze was fixed on her worried face.
"Do you have anything to apply to your wound?"
Lucian pulled out a small bottle and handed it over to her.
She held it, "This?"
"Habit of carrying it," he replied.
"I heard you always went on hunt, that must be the reason."
He hummed, "Mother would insist."
"Sure a smart woman." Erin started to apply it on his wound. But not even once he flinched as if he felt nothing.
He asked, "I am still waiting to get the right answer."
"My answer remains the same," Erin replied, her tone resolute.
She finished applying the ointment and started to wrap his wound.
"I insist you to change it."
"I take my own decisions and nothing can force me to change them."
"I won’t give up unless you change it."
She glared at him. "What are you trying to do?"
"Trying to make you change your decision."
She sighed, "Lucian, even if you don’t want me to marry Aaron, you have to accept it. It’s not just about you. Don’t be so selfish."
He stared into her beautiful eyes, "I can’t help but be selfish when it comes to you."
Erin felt puzzled to hear him, the way he looked her, ’What does he mean? And what kind of a stubbornness is this?’
"Aaron is not the only man you should consider to marry," he added.
She gritted her teeth. ’So stubborn to accept the woman he rejected being marrying to his brother.’ and spoked, "Me decision is final." She had finished wrapping the cloth around his wound. "Your hands are so cold. Must be due to catching fish in water." She immediately changed the topic, her warm hands holding his cold and hurt one.
"Your hands are warm," he spoke, holding looking at her delicate hands.
Not sure why, but she held his hand into her warm ones, being careful of not touching the bandaged wound and asked, "Better."
Nodding, he held her other hand and moved to touch his cheek. Surprised, she tried to pull her hand back. but Lucian held it firm. "It’s comforting," he spoke.
She swallowed hard and looked at his face, her hand resting against his cold cheek. "There was no need to go out and catch more fish. You are cold now. What if you fall sick?"
"Will you take care of me then?" he asked. his gaze intently looking at her.
"I am not your family yet," she replied, "Won’t be appropriate. But once I am married to Aaron..."
He put her hand away from his cheek and stood up, even before she could say more and walked out after saying, "Put on your gloves before coming out."
Erin watched him leave. ’He truly doesn’t want me to marry Aaron. But he needs to come to terms sooner or later.’
