Erin left and made her way to Lucian’s chamber. On the way, she mumbled to herself, "Is it really okay to visit him at this hour?" Conflicted, she continued walking until she reached the door of his chamber. Raising her hand to knock, she froze, staring at the door.
This doesn’t feel right. It’s so late. If not for Maya insisting, I wouldn’t even consider coming here at this hour. It might look improper—like I’m crossing the boundaries expected of a noble lady by entering a man’s chamber this late. Though I wish he’d show a bit of romance, this isn’t the way. I can give this to him tomorrow.
She lowered her hand and turned to leave, but—
The door behind her suddenly opened, and she froze, sensing his presence. Damn it! Am I caught?
"Is something the matter?" Lucian’s deep voice broke the silence.
Erin exhaled slowly, trying to calm her racing heart. She quickly adjusted her expression from panic to calm before turning to face him. "I was... I..."
Her words faltered the moment her eyes landed on him. He stood there, his shirt partially unbuttoned, revealing his toned chest, as though she’d caught him in the middle of changing.
"What’s the matter?" he repeated, his voice calm but curious.
Erin struggled to find her words, her gaze darting down to the box in her hands as her cheeks warmed. "I came to give you the gift I got for you, but... I think it can wait until tomorrow."
His eyes flickered to the box in her hand before he spoke. "You can give it to me now."
She hesitated, meeting his steady gaze. There was no teasing or impatience in his expression—just quiet sincerity, as though he genuinely meant it.
She nodded lightly and opened the small box. Carefully, she removed a bracelet adorned with a single red jade set in a golden chain.
"I thought this bracelet would look good on you," she said softly, holding it out to him.
Lucian extended his hand, but instead of taking it, he presented his wrist, silently asking her to put it on for him.
Erin didn’t mind. With graceful movements, she clasped the bracelet around his wrist, adjusting it until it sat perfectly. She nodded in approval. "It suits you."
Lucian glanced at his wrist and hummed in acknowledgment.
"I’ll take my leave now. Good night," she said, turning to go.
"Wait."
She paused and looked back at him, a hint of curiosity in her eyes. "Hmm?"
"Where’s yours?" he asked.
"Mine?" she echoed, confused.
"These come in pairs," he said, his voice steady. "One for a man and one for a woman."
Erin froze, her mind racing. Damn, he actually knows about that? How? Isn’t he supposed to be the oblivious one?
Before she could respond, Lucian’s gaze shifted to the box still in her hand. Without waiting for her permission, he took it from her. Erin was too stunned to stop him, watching as he opened the box and retrieved the matching necklace—a delicate gold chain with a pendant that mirrored the red jade on his bracelet.
He placed the empty box back in her hand and stepped closer. Without a word, he lifted the necklace, leaning in to fasten it around her neck. His actions were confident, as though permission was a given, and he didn’t need to ask it.
Erin’s heart skipped a beat as he closed the distance between them. His hands brushed her skin as he adjusted the clasp at the back of her neck, his presence wrapping around her like an embrace.
She stood frozen, her thoughts scattering as his warmth and the faint, earthy scent of him enveloped her. The proximity was overwhelming—her heart pounded so loudly she wondered if he could hear it. Every movement of his finger tips that bushed her skin felt deliberate, sending a cascade of sensations through her.
Once secured, he moved back and looked at her neck, his gaze silently appreciating the matching stone necklace in her neck.
Erin looked at him. Her entire being shaken by this man’s unintentional actions.
In his eyes, she could see he liked that necklace in her neck.
Her gaze moved to see the bracelet in his hand and then she looked at the jade hung in her in at her chest. She touched it and felt inexplicable feelings, something that touched her heart. Both were wearing something that meant for a couple.
For a moment there was entire silence around them. Erin had the urge to go and hug this man, but she held back. For now, this much was enough. It was a good progress, though she was not sure what he felt about it.
"It looks good on you as well," he spoke in his deep dignified tone.
She offered him a light smile, "Thank you. I shall take a leave now."
He hummed and said, "Tomorrow, would you like me to show you around?"
Erin nodded.
"After morning meal, I will take you to visit other parts of the estate," he spoke.
"Sure."
With that she turned to leave. Unknown to her a smile on her lips widened, showing how happy she was with just a simple action of his.
Once more Lucian watched her leaving, but at this time, his hands clutched into fists as if he was resisting something, resisting from going to her or his feet had already taken a step forward.
Smiling, Erin entered her chamber, her mood lifted.
"You look happy my lady," Maya commented.
"Maybe," Erin said and proceeded to change into new clothes. Maya helped her.
Once done, she lay in the bed, under the warm blanket, her hand constantly caressing the pendent in her neck, a smile painted on her lips. he helped her wear that necklace and even offered to take her out.
’He is not that as oblivious as I think. His aloofness is sweet as well. I look forward to tomorrow outing. I hope it brings us closer.
