Chapter 235: Before Another Wave (3)

Arren’s expression sold him out; he was already surprised, to begin with, and as soon as Spade finished, the shock filled his eyes so that he was almost speechless.

He blinked and swallowed anxiously. Even if he were ready to open up and tell this secret of his to Spade, Arren found out that it was much harder to do so when he was already at this moment.

"Y-You really believe it?" Arren inquired, his voice somehow trembling. He also gripped his spoon tighter; for some reason, he was really nervous.

Spade could notice this as his deep gaze gained another layer of fondness. He nodded as he gently rubbed Arren’s chin to calm him down.

The alpha leaned forward, and as the distance between their faces became closer, Arren could see Spade’s eyes and his expression much clearer. The way the deep and affectionate gaze was still in his eyes and didn’t diminish while looking at him made Arren’s nervous heart calm down.

He recovered quickly and was reminded that when his confidence to divulge his secret to the alpha was coming from, Spade himself was giving him confidence for this love.

As though the alpha sensed that he relaxed and there wasn’t any more hesitation in his eyes, Spade’s gaze turned softer.

After a moment of pause, Arren suddenly had a thought and shared it with Spade.

"Spade, what if the memories hidden deep in my subconscious and your vision that overlap with each other are related?"

Deep inside, this was the root of his fear and hesitation. Arren knew he was a souk that transmigrated into this world; at least that was what he knew, and he didn’t want to assume anything.

If so, didn’t that only mean that what Spade was being reminded of and seeing in his image was the real Arren? The real Arren might be the one that Spade loved after all, and he stole his identity and everything from the real one. He was guilty, but he admitted that he was selfish because he didn’t have any regrets or guilt.

From Day one, he claimed this second life as his own. And everything progressed at this point not because he schemed or took advantage of the fact that he knew the plot, but because it all came naturally. So, for him, there isn’t anything to feel guilty for.

The problem was not him, but... What if, Spade thought otherwise? That was his insecurity, but he would always be overtaken whenever he saw how Spade looked at him and treated him. He was immediately reminded that Spade’s feelings for him were real. freewёbnoνel.com

Spade sensed his thoughts wandering and gave him a deep look. The alpha removed his hands from gripping the spoon and slowly made their fingers interlock against each other.

As though he had guessed what Arren was thinking of, Spade leaned forward and kissed his forehead, which lasted for a few seconds. When Arren was already comfortable in their position, the alpha withdrew and looked him straight in the eye.

"Nothing will change; they might be related or not." Spade smiled softly as he added in a deep and affectionate tone, "We’re still us."

The moment those words were uttered, Arren’s heart instantly warmed, and he nodded his head. Tears pooled in the corner of his eyes, and he smiled sweetly.

"Right, we’re still us," Arren repeated, feeling more reassured than ever.

Just like that, while not explicitly revealed yet, Spade now had an idea of his secret. Arren didn’t know that he would breathe much more comfortably now, perhaps because he thought he would keep this secret until he died.

There was still a lot to talk about and consider, but a day seemed like it wasn’t enough, Especially as the two of them only wanted to spend their time with each other whenever they could because of the situation.

After their lunch, Spade didn’t immediately go back to monitor the situation on the frontlines but stayed with Arren. There weren’t any major operations today, so whether he was there or not wasn’t necessary.

Sitting on the couch, Arren was pressed against Spade’s body, almost sitting on his lap, as the alpha’s other arm was encircling his waist.

They were resting comfortably against each other, and at some point, Arren almost thought he was about to fall asleep because of how relaxed he was. However, he did manage to stop himself and fight back the urge to sleep.

To do so, he had to start a conversation with Spade. As he didn’t have any important things to talk about in mind, he only said whatever came to mind first.

"Where is Levin now?" Arren inquired, knowing that Alpha had not seen him these days. He only knew that he was having a hard time since even Arren could hear the rumors about him. And that weighs something since Arren was already in the palace; what more outside?

"He’s finding where my aunt is," Spade simply answered, stroking Arren’s waist lazily, something that the alpha had become accustomed to at this point.

Arren leaned his head into the alpha’s chest and let himself be enveloped by the alpha’s warmth and pheromones. In turn, he grew more and more sluggish as time passed.

Hearing this, he thought of Princess Coreen. He still didn’t know if he could face the Princess just yet, but the improvement was that he could now hear her name or talk about her without shivering.

"Is she really still in the capital?" Arren curiously asked. The capital became stricter this time around because of the red alert. The blockade was lifted, but it was hard to leave and even harder to enter the capital, which was slowly implemented in the various domains of the empire.

Spade didn’t immediately answer; perhaps even he was doubting if the Princess was still in the capital.

"She is," He then answered, although lacking some confidence. "She has to be," Spade muttered, almost like he was talking to himself rather than answering Arren.

Arren shifted; he now decided to change the subject. These were all the only things he could ask , but he didn’t have the ability to really help. But he was also hoping that the Princess was still inside the capital; she was a criminal, but he could tell that Spade still cared for his aunt.

While his body was still pressing closer against Spade, he slightly turned to the side as he lifted his head to look at the alpha.

But this time there was now a grin playing in his lips; he suddenly thought of something, and that was a good thing to talk about. After all, it was truly important!

Spade sensed that he had a naughty thought once more but didn’t expose him; instead, he actively inquired before Arren could speak.

"What is it?" Spade softly asked. Arren didn’t know, but Spade was mostly grateful that the omega could still maintain his smile despite the depressing situation. That was what he wanted the most, and in turn, it let him focus his mind knowing his omega was safe.

"You know what month it is now?" Arren sheepishly asked, raising his brow and somehow widening his eyes as a threat if Spade couldn’t answer correctly.

With a pause, Spade narrowed his eyes, as though pondering hard what Arren might be referring to.

"May?" He answered, not confident. Only when Arren pouted at him and showed a resentful look did Spade chuckle and coax his omega. "What gift do you want for your birthday?"

Of course, Spade didn’t forget Arren’s birthday. Although he was busy, he could never forget important occasions like these. especially since this was the first time he would celebrate Arren’s birthday with him.

As expected, Arren’s expression eased, but he still slapped Spade’s chest playfully and spoke while pouting adorably. "I thought you’d say you didn’t know."

He wasn’t really particular about that, if Spade didn’t know. He would just tell him. But he always grabbed any opportunity to be coaxed by his alpha.

"I’m just teasing you," Spade admitted in a deep tone tinged with a smile.

Arren, like always, was easy to coax; just his voice and he was already sold!

Tightening his hold on him, Spade was almost already embracing him securely in his arms. "What gift do you want?" he repeated.

"I don’t have a gift I really want," Arren said, as he paused. When it comes to material things, Arren had so much already, and why did he have to ask for a gift if he had the money to buy it?

As they said, ’it’s the thoughts that count, but other than his coming-of-age party when he was fifteen, Arren didn’t have a grandiose birthday party again since he wasn’t interested.

Arren wouldn’t admit that he was scared off before because his father almost invited Spade, so he determinedly told his father to celebrate his birthdays together without a party.

So, he had not received any birthday gifts other than those from his father.

"Nothing at all?" Spade’s head tilted and urged.

Arren shook his head again. "I don’t have a gift I hoped for," but then he smirked, "Of course, you still have to give me a gift; I want it as a surprise!" This was the first time he would get a gift from a lover, so he was still rather excited, even though he wasn’t hoping for anything too expensive or anything. It came from Spade, so it was still special.

Shaking his head but with a fond expression on his face, Spade could only agree. However, his birthday was also important, but Arren didn’t bring up this topic just because of his birthday.

Slowly, a more mysterious smirk graced his lips, and his right hand traced along Spade’s chest. Spade lowered his gaze and looked at it for a second before returning to Arren’s eyes.

"It’s not only my birthday," Arren whispered. The enchanting tone merged with his voice at once, and he let the heat seep into the air with his next words.

"My heat is coming soon, my alpha."
