Chapter 244: Birthday Wish

Just like that, Arren’s heat lasted for almost five days. Even Arren couldn’t believe it, since it was longer than he expected. However, it was also reasonable since the intervals of the waves of his heat were also hours apart, and they became longer as days passed.

Overall, this heat was indeed different from his first time, and it wasn’t that painful at all. He could only hope that his next heats were also similar to this one.

Even so, once his post-heat arrived, Arren still needed to recover from the days of sleepless nights and get his health back from not eating anything at all aside from energy bars and such.

Spade still accompanied him for a day before he had to return to his duty as an emperor, with a bunch of work waiting for him. Both had to return to their reality, as there was currently a war happening.

"Dad," Arren called, low and almsot like a whisper. Two days later, and Arren had already had a good sleep, the aftermath of his heat had now almost faded.

Although his complexion obviously glowed and improved after his heat, after all, Spade had indeed ’taken care’ of him in the past few days.

The Duke, even with a smile on his lips, stared at Arren with a knowing look. However, seeing his son so embarrassed, he didn’t tease Arren for it.

His father embraced him and withdrew as he smiled. "Happy Birthday, my son." In the end, the duke seemed he couldn’t help it and indirectly and intentionally added a few playful words after with his grin widening. "Even if, it’s already too late for it,"

Arren immediately noticed it and blushed.

"Dad!" This time, it was much louder as he wore a helpless expression, but the heat on his face made him so much cuter that his father only laughed at him.

They talked for only a few minutes alone before Spade arrived. As usual, the alpha still appeared extraordinary, as his presence and appearance commanded attention as soon as he entered the room. One could still tell his high status despite not wearing his royal suit, and he only wore a more casual yet decent pair of suits,

Soon enough, Spade had already gotten closer to them and greeted Duke Evan.

"Duke," he called and nodded at him. Although the man in front of him was his future in law, all of them knew that Spade couldn’t really bow down to him completely, but he was still respectful to him nonetheless.

Duke Evan was also casual about it; as one who upheld the custom of the centuries-long hierarchy of an empire, being in-laws to the emperor couldn’t really change much at all about their relationship.

He bowed and saluted, "Your Majesty, I hope you’ve been well." It was a rather typical greeting to a monarch, as they often see each other these days.

Arren, who felt Spade’s arm wrapped around his waist almost instinctively from the alpha, also didn’t flinch and thought of it as normal at this point. He only realized that his father was with them a few seconds later, but he seemed to be already getting used to it.

He only watched the two greet each other for some kind of formality before they proceeded to the dinner table. They decided to only celebrate Arren’s birthday this night, which they had to postpone because of his heat.

It was only the three of them. At first, Arren invited Mother Empress Liviera, but he refused to join them for dinner and only greeted him and apologized for not having prepared a gift.

He was still mad at Spade, so Arren understood him, although it was a bit regretful for him not to be here.

While they ate the dinner, the two also conversed for a moment about the war going on, but it was only for a moment since it was Arren’s birthday dinner and there was no need for such a heavy topic, which could wait later.

Arren, the protagonist of this night, had a bright smile on his lips, and his expression was more relaxed than ever. Being with the one he loved the most in this world, although not really complete, already satisfied him.

The two who would always indulge him were present, so Arren really could do anything he wanted. Halfway into their dinner, when they stopped as a few royal attendants came in, Arren’s gaze immediately landed on the cake that was in the trolley being pushed to their table.

His eyes widened, and he laughed before he looked at the two.

"Really?" he let out in surprise. While it was normal for a cake on a birthday, he still didn’t expect them to prepare one for him in such a solemn atmosphere. However, he was truly happy inside.

His expression was enough for the two to also relax and be affected by his smile.

"It’s not a birthday dinner without a birthday cake, my son," the Duke said with a satisified and amused smile. Seeing his son happy, all his stress gradually vanished. There was nothing more important to him than his son.

Spade’s expression also softened considerably; he nodded in agreement and grabbed Arren’s hand and tightly held it. Unlike Arren, who was somehow still embarrassed to show affection in front of his father sometimes, he didn’t have such problems and openly showed his affection to his omega.

Arren, his heart throbbing as the corners of his eyes also heated up, felt extreme joy at the moment.

The birthday cake was soon placed on the table in front of Arren. The cake was a simple two-layered cake, there was a writing of ’Happy Birthday, Arren’ on it. The shape of the candles was his age, 22. He never knew such a simple cake would also bring him to tears. It seemed it was true that it was thought that always counts.

"Happy Birthday, Arren," Spade’s deep voice resounded, staring deeply at him with fondness in his eyes.

Arren’s lips trembled as he met Spade’s gaze, and he also shifted his eyes to his father, who nodded at him with a smile. He took a deep breath, and slowly he shut his eyes and made a wish.

Truthfully, Arren never thought of his birthdays as anything special. It was only a day that was slightly more eventful than his normal day, as he celebrated it with his father.

Now, he suddenly realized, he had been taking it for granted. The day he was born in this world was his biggest fortune. Arren should be more grateful for his birthday, as this life gave him more than material things, but he was surrounded by people who loved him so much.

I wish to still celebrate my next birthday with all the people I love.

After muttering these words in his mind, Arren opened his eyes and blew out the candle in front of the eyes of the special men in his life. He even stared at the smoke that was blowing from the wind, as though wanting to see how they would pass his wish on to anyone who might be listening.

After looking for a while, Arren lifted his head, a grin lingering on his lips as he asked playfully, "Where are my gifts?"

Spade and the Duke could only shake their heads with a smile and fondness in their expressions.
