The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra-Chapter 266: Initial History (8)
Chapter 266: Initial History (8)
Future events aside, Arren and Levin left the banquet hall together. His comfortable demeanor was especially clear for onlookers.
While Arren thought of Levin as his nemesis, that didn’t mean they were enemies in the truest sense. At some point, he also respected the renowned Royal Chief Guard, but after being teased over and over again, Arren disliked seeing his annoying face so much.
Moreover, Arren was also so jealous of his position. He could be with the emperor all the time. One thing that was always used by the other was to mess with his mind. After all, Arren’s admiration for the emperor was even obvious for someone who was always with them.
Their destination wasn’t that far from the banquet hall, and it was only a private room upstairs. The guards were spread out at the entrance. When they stood outside, the guards bowed before Levin first before they were given permission to enter.
In times like this, Arren was also reminded that the person who often made fun of him was also a big shot.
However, he could hardly think about it, as he was extremely excited to see the emperor again. Arren was extremely busy before the Christmas vacation, and he couldn’t visit the palace because of it.
Then, at the ceremony, Arren also couldn’t talk with the emperor, much less get near him. All he could do was look at him from afar, giving him a sense of his reality.
As they entered the room, what first caught his attention was the serene ambiance compared to the bustling banquet hall just downstairs. A medium-sized circular table was at the center, and as the veranda was opened, the flickering lights outside could be seen.
And when his eyes finally landed on the people sitting comfortably inside, Arren’s gaze instinctively fixed first on the emperor, his gaze also meeting his.
It was only a second later that Arren’s gaze shifted to the other person inside. After recognizing him, Arren couldn’t help but straighten his stature. A wave of anxiety enveloped him.
The man, who could never conceal the grace and elegance of the noble, was now also looking at him. Despite the kind and almost gentle aura emanating from the elder, Arren’s heartbeat increased in pace.
Why couldn’t he be nervous? The man in front of him wasn’t just anyone—Mother Empress Liviera, the emperor’s omega father! He was the parent of someone he admired.
After a momenry dazed, he was snapped out of his thoughts, and he recollected himself. Hissing inwardly at his late reaction, Arren bowed his head respectfully and saluted.
"Your Majesty... I’m sorry for intruding." His mind had jumbled; Arren honestly didn’t know what to say in this situation.
He wanted to complain to Levin about why he had not told him that the emperor wasn’t alone in the room, but he also remembered that he didn’t bother to ask. In a way, it was also his fault for being taken aback at this moment.
In his nervous state, a lighthearted chuckle reached his ears, prompting him to lift his head.
"You don’t need to apologize. I’m the one who invited you." The mother empress’ gentle voice amicably made him at ease. He smiled and motioned for Arren to get closer. "You’re Arren, right?"
Arren nodded his head, but he was still at a loss. His Majesty, the empress, was the one who invited him? He glanced at the emperor, who was looking at them, before he returned his gaze to the empress.
He bit his lips, and while he didn’t know what to say, he still approached the empress and stood before him. Arren knew the empress, but in the past couple years that he began visiting the palace, he never once met the empress.
In fact, in recent years, the mother empress’ public appearance has been reduced significantly. Some rumors said that he was not in good health after he lost his mate, the former emperor. Of course, none of these rumors were confirmed and were mere speculations.
Arren was so nervous, for some reason. He wasn’t prepared at all for this unexpected discovery.
"Royal Mother insisted on meeting you. I apologize for not informing you in advance," the emperor’s deep voice cut in, easing the awkward atmosphere.
Arren shook his head in a rather amusing way. "No... Your majesty. You don’t need to apologize, uhm..." He paused and became embarrassed for his rambling. Taking a deep breath, "I’m... so honored to meet His Majesty, the empress." He bowed again.
Instead of easing the atmosphere, the emperor even unknowingly aggravated it. The mother empress laughed and held Arren’s hand.
"You don’t need to be so formal. Come, have a seat."
Arren immediately complied and took a seat next to the mother empress. His demeanor was so prim and proper, not truly inclined toward his true colors.
If only Arren could see Levin behind him, who was trying so hard not to laugh at him, but he was too preoccupied to even remember the one who guided him here.
The empress’ kind smile broadened and firmly clasped Arren’s right hand as he stared at Arren’s face with an inexplicable light in his eyes.
"I’ve been wanting to meet you, Arren."
Arren’s eyes shot up; his startled appearance was too obvious and even cute.
"Uhm..." Arren was truly at a loss for words. For someone as extroverted as he was, being speechless was too rare.
"Royal Mother," the emperor at the side called out again, as if helping Arren get out of his awkward state.
"What? Spade, my son, isn’t it that you only want to keep little Arren for yourself?"
Arren’s jaw dropped when he heard this, and he squirmed from his seat, not knowing what to do.
Spade, the emperor, sighed. "Royal Mother, you’re making Arren more uncomfortable."
The empress didn’t answer for a moment. "Arren, am I making you uncomfortable? "
The truth was, he was indeed uncomfortable. However, that was only because he was too unprepared for this meeting, so he was thinking he made a fool of himself in front of the parent of the one he liked. He was panicking about it inside. Other than that, the empress’ presence was also so intimidating for him.
"Uh, I’m just surprised, Your Majesty." Arren chose to be honest and flashed a smile. "But, I’m not uncomfortable at all... only a little bit." Arren added the phrase at the end, seeing the emperor’s deep gaze at him.
The empress also sensed it, of course. He didn’t let go of Arren’s hand, though. No one knew what he was thinking. Even the emperor, his son, was at a loss for his intentions.
Caressing Arren’s hand gently, he stared into Arren’s eyes, and a genuine smile appeared on his lips.
"You’re such a good and beautiful child, Arren. I’m really glad to see you."
As for the hidden meanings of his words, Arren was so immersed in being complimented by the empress that his cheeks blushed noticeably.
"Th-Thank you, Your Majesty."
The empress lifted his head and met his son’s gaze; the emperor’s brows were furrowed and he seemed to have a hunch on what was on his omega father’s mind.
For what it was, it remained an unspoken word in the end. The empress asked Arren about his school life; it was a night of seemingly simple conversation.
The next day, Arren took a vacation with his father. Even after they came back, he never had the opportunity again to visit the palace. It was as if... Someone was preventing him from doing so.
Arren was extremely baffled and... hurt.
Why does the emperor not want him to visit the palace again?
