The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra-Chapter 274: Arren and Spade (6)
Chapter 274: Arren and Spade (6)
Arren had never been acting so nervous in a banquet before. He kept his head lowered, as he wanted to be as inconspicuous as possible. However, the more he acted as though he wanted to run into the bathroom and relieve himself, the more he caught the attention of others.
And that included the second person he was reluctant to meet in the palace. As Arren was making himself invisible in the corner, a carefree voice rang behind him.
"Arren?"
This voice was so familiar that it immediately gave him a start, making him flinch, and his head shot up to look at the newcomer. Sure enough, it was Levin!
Their eyes met, and Arren was so distraught that he couldn’t react quickly.
Levin tilted his head in confusion and tried to touch his forehead, but Arren was fast this time, and he avoided it. This did not make the atmosphere awkward, though, as the two had always been this way. Well, that was before.
"Uhh... it’s you..." If it were a normal day, this might already sound dissapointed and annoyed, but it only came off as cautious and awkward. freewebnøvel.coɱ
Fuck. Arren cursed in his mind. The influence of his new friends was also being integrated into him.
Levin also appeared to have realized why Arren was acting like this, and he couldn’t say anything for a while but then inquired after clearing his throat.
"Why are you here? I mean, why are you sitting here?"
Arren almost rolled his eyes. Earlier, he was indeed so surprised to meet Levin, but now that he was already talking to him, especially with him being so painfully oblivious, Arren only got irritated instead.
His heart calmed down, and he leaned on his seat leisurely. When he looked at his side, he happened to discover that there was no one in their position anymore but the two of them.
Levin’s appearance seemed to have scared the small nobles around them. His face was famous, after all. There were also some gazes that fell upon them while whispering to each other.
If he recalled, there was indeed an old rumor about them before they died down only a few months later. And now, there was no doubt that it would be reignited.
"Did you really not know?" Arren gave Levin a side eye, his emotions calming down.
Arren was certain that Levin knew the reason he didn’t want to mingle at the center of the banquet. However, now that his presence had been known, everything that he planned was thwarted prematurely.
He couldn’t help but glare at Levin. This man really spoiled his plan of sneaking away without alerting anyone. His attendance was also broadcast at the banquet.
If he didn’t greet the empress, it was not even him who would be heavily criticized, but his father! And what would the mother empress say then? He gritted his teeth, and his eyes alone revealed his intentions for violence.
"Oh... I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to disturb you... really." Levin appeared really ashamed, having revealed Arren’s presence.
"Tsk. As if you’re sorry." Arren sneered and took a deep breath. His eyes then landed on the wine glass on the table, and without thinking about it, he gulped it all down in one go.
Levin was stunned, and he couldn’t react for a moment.
"Arren... you—"
Arren halted Levin’s words with a wave of his hand. It was now unavoidable to meet the emperor. And what he needed was courage. Of course, one glass of wine was not enough to make him drunk, but the heat in his throat and stomach could at least give him some stimulation.
He stood up and glanced at Levin, who looked lost, looking at him as though seeing Arren for the first time. Arren couldn’t help but lift the corner of his lips at this.
"Let’s go..." face my death.
With his heart thumping furiously, he let Levin guide him to where the mother empress was. and possibly the emperor.
To say the least, the two of them, even without walking side by side, were such head-turners. Arren barely bothered anymore if the exaggerated rumors between him and Levin spread over the empire.
On the way there, Arren also managed to see some of his friends, whom he greeted along the way. Although some of them, especially Ramon, wanted to chat with him, they all consciously only held themselves, seeing Levin walking behind Arren.
Gradually, Arren’s confidence, barely influenced by the alcohol, showed signs of fading away. Once they were almost there and Arren was already seeing the table where the mother empress was sitting, his footsteps became heavier.
Soon, he had already made eye contact with his father, who was taken aback after seeing him. Arren only smiled and then focused his attention on the mother empress.
In fact, his eyes also met a particular and familiar pair of intimidating eyes, but Arren had already averted his eyes; otherwise, his knees would give up on him.
His heartbeat was so loud that its echoes were the only thing that he could hear. Sure enough, the emperor’s effect on him was still as impactful as ever. Arren had a long way to go, to the point where he was wondering if he could really move on or not.
With a smile on his face, which he was hoping wasn’t stiff, he bowed respectfully to the mother empress.
"Your Majesty, I wish for more blessings to come your way." Arren had not thought of any etiquette at this moment, but his muscle memory was doing it for him.
He almost froze and stopped, but he also turned to the side. He didn’t lift his head, and he was still bowing when he greeted the man who was sitting on the main seat and looking at him.
It was as though all the efforts that he had made over the past few months were all jokes. Arren finally discovered that his feelings for the emperor had not decreased in the slightest.
And instead... Deep inside of him, the foolish side of him, Arren felt longing. And inexplicable yearning and desire for the man he loved.
"Your Majesty, this subject greets you," Arren spoke so respectfully that it sounded extremely distant.
This was only his way to protect his heart from all the overflowing emotions that he was feeling at this moment. He could sense the barrier in his heart slowly crumbling at the mere presence of him alone.
How pathetic. Indeed, I am.
"I hope you’ve been well... Your Majesty," Arren finished in his greetings.
Arren finished his greetings and turned to his father. His instincts to run away had been urging him still, but he was managing to keep them at bay.
When he glanced in the emperor’s direction, Arren accidentally met his eyes. His heart sank, and he lowered his head.
Wait... Why was the emperor looking at him that way?
No, don’t make me hope again. Please.
