Chapter 329: Face-Off (2)

The dark memories lingered, but they were overwhelmed by the sudden light... by the sudden warmth that enveloped Arren.

Slowly, he raised his head. Despite his dark vision, he seemed able to see that light that emitted from him, from someone who would always come and save him with every opportunity.

"Spade..." he weakly muttered. The past and the present were still overlapping at each other as though he were having a hallucination. This made Arren’s voice hoarser than before.

He wanted to hear his voice, he wanted to know that what he experienced in this life was real and not only an illusion created by his hopeless fantasy.

Even more so, he wanted to see him. Arren raised his hand and removed Spade’s hand from his eyes. Their eyes quickly met, and those worried eyes filled with indescribable emotions were drawn to him.

Instantly, the confusion faded, and everything became clearer to him. His lips quivered and he leaned his face into Spade’s hand, which was still caressing his cheek.

He couldn’t say anything at the moment. While he was so glad in his heart and he wasn’t confused anymore, the fear was real and he was still shaking.

It was then that a casual voice broke the moment between them, making Arren scoot closer to Spade, exhaling heavily.

"Wow..." he clapped and laughed, his eyes lingered on Arren. "His Majesty really is such an affectionate lover."

Even if there wasn’t anything wrong with what he said, it still sounded like an insult from his tone or that because it simply came from him, the biggest demon that Arren ever known.

A surge of anger rose inside him; for a moment, it even overpowered the fear that he was feeling. Arren was Spade’s inverse scale, and that was the same for him.

His eyes glared daggers at the Marquis, not showing any kind of timidity despite the trembling of his body. His gaze was so fierce, revealing the hatred and hostility that he harbored against him.

With those eyes, even the Marquis was a bit taken aback and squinted his eyes. The hatred that those eyes contained was so intense that it made him wonder if he had already done something to him.

Of course, it also made sense, as he was the one who repeatedly attempted to kidnap Arren. Still, for some reason, the marquis kept feeling there was something else to it, but he didn’t know what it was.

Like Arren, Spade’s eyes grew cold again, and his arms immediately wrapped around Arren’s shoulder as he shielded him from the marquis’ gaze. Those eyes were making it harder for him to control himself.

If not for Arren’s presence, he would have already exploded, just like in his last life, the moment that he laid his eyes on the Marquis. In the past, Spade and the Marquis didn’t speak at all, as they both attacked each other when they met in the palace.

Spade didn’t care at that time, not even his life, and he had nothing to lose. This time, it was different. Arren was with him, and he had to control himself. Even so, the boiling rage that was accumulating inside him was the same, if not more.

"It seems with how you’re acting... You don’t have any intention to surrender." Spade spoke calmly, although the darkness in his tone and gaze wasn’t hard to notice.

He didn’t conceal it, either.

The forces that were there were both on high alert, waiting for the actions of the opposite sides. Still, it was obvious that the Marquis’s side was outnumbered.

It didn’t seem to faze the Marquis, though, as he answered Spade confidently.

"Surrender?" The Marquis laughed and then squinted his eyes, "Surrender never came across my mind. In fact, I’m so happy, Your Majesty."

His eyes suddenly flashed as he laughed with such intensity that he looked so much different. A lunatic... The Marquis laughed with such fervor, malice, and greed that it disgusted Arren to the point of nausea.

In his position, he couldn’t see the Marquis, but this diabolical laugh was so familiar to him.

"Haah! Your Majesty, I have to thank you." The Marquis happily smiled, "You deliver my crucial key... Arren, you’re finally here." He laughed again and took a step, seemingly wanting to approach Arren.

Hearing this, Arren felt the arm around him tighten; he couldn’t help but look up again. When he did so, his eyes widened slightly with what he saw.

When he heard the Marquis, something seemed to have clicked in Spade’s mind, and he almost imploded, if not for Arren in his arms. His jaw clenched tightly, holding himself back.

Yet, his eyes grew darker, indicating an upcoming rampage. He knew, it wasn’t for long before he lost control.

"Did I say... not to say his name?" Spade managed to voice out amidst his raging emotions, clenching his other hand into a fist as the veins protruded and became prominent.

The Marquis didn’t mind him at all; his mind seemed to be so out of it already with the appearance of Arren. There was only one thing on his mind, and that was Arren, his key.

He didn’t even answer Spade, or he couldn’t, only looking in Arren’s direction.

He was already out of his mind. The Marquis was only thinking of his grand plan, of which Arren was a great part of.

Spade heavily frowned, and veins appeared in his temple. He was also slowly losing it. It wasn’t only his hatred for the marquis, but also his instincts to protect his omega, which were also kicking in and messing with his already haywire emotions and control.

"Back off." Spade couldn’t help but growl, his eyes glaring a threat.

Spade’s amber eyes became darker, a kind of madness threatening to take over.

The Marquis ignored him, more like he was so focused on Arren that he didn’t care about anything else.

The pressure inside the room reached a higher peak as two sides seemed ready to shoot against each other as soon as the situation called for it.

Their distance wasn’t too far or near, but with the Marquis’ pace, it wouldn’t be long before he reached their position, and by the look of it, he didn’t have any intention to stop either.

That was when the final fuse in Spade’s mind was triggered. His patience had finally reached its limit; there was no way he would let the Marquis get near Arren.

Not anymore.

Spade removed his arms around Arren, taking a step in front of him. He didn’t even glance at Arren; Spade didn’t want his omega to see the coldness in his eyes.

He knew that in his state, Spade would find it hard to soften his features, and he didn’t want to look at Arren with such coldness, ever.

"Protect him." Spade spoke, his tone was unlike the tone Arren had heard before. There wasn’t any emotion to it, not even anger.

Still, the distinct firmness of those words was conveyed.

Arren could barely react to that when he was already surrounded by the royal guards and Spade was already walking forward with long strides. The gun on the other side was aiming at him, making Arren’s heart throb from nervousness.

He wasn’t even afraid anymore by the thought that the marquis was walking towards him, and he was only so worried for Spade’s safety. He almost wanted to scream and call for Spade, but he knew how delicate the situation they were in and he didn’t want to get in the way.

Under their watchful and alarmed gazes, before Spade and the Marquis completely met, the Marquis’s abdomen collided with Spade’s foot first.

Spade kicked the Marquis so hard that he flew away a few meters away. It was so fast and sudden that both sides were so slow to react, or had yet to react at all!

Even Arren’s mouth dropped.

Spade wasn’t finished; of course, he wasn’t. With glaring and emotionless eyes, he removed his mask and threw it as he looked down at the Marquis, their eyes meeting.

"I’ve already killed you once; I can do it again."

Spade muttered slowly and with great clarity. Slowly, whether it was because of the pain of the kick or Spade’s words, the Marquis’s eyes gained rationality.

The two have a face-off again. Two different lifetimes, but Spade would make sure the outcome was the same but different.
