Chapter 417: Chapter 417- The Sky Collapsing

Hanyu’s brows furrowed slightly.

’Why is she taking so long?’

Hanyu looked at Mar-Yue, and when she saw that she kept looking at the door behind the counter, Hanyu’s heart grew cold.

What if Mar-Yue decided not to buy the items because Li Mei took too long?

Hanyu suddenly smiled and said.

"Perhaps something happened that’s delaying Li Mei. Little Sister Yue, Young Master Sol, excuse me while I go check on her."

After saying that, Hanyu gracefully left and entered the door behind the counter.

The door led to a hallway that had an intersection going left and right at the end. There were also several doors to the left and right of the hallway and Hanyu went to one of the last ones that was already slightly open.

When she pushed open the ajar door, she saw a scene that infuriated her.

Li Mei was standing next to a table while looking at something in her hand.

Several small rectangular boxes were neatly arranged in a corner of the small storeroom.

On the table was such a wooden box, and inside it was the very items she was supposed to return with; however, she was instead looking at a jade slip in her hand.

"What are you doing? I sent you here to retrieve an display box but you’re instead slacking off? Can you even understand the consequences your actions might cause?"

Hearing Hanyu’s voice, Li Mei was so startled that she dropped the jade slip in her hand.

"What are you looking at that’s so important that you aren’t doing your job properly?"

Hanyu reached out her hand and the falling jade slip paused in mid-air before flying towards her hand.

When she looked at the contents inside the jade slip, she frowned.

"This is the prices for the store items, why are you looking at this?"

Hanyu looked up at Li Mei with cold eyes.

Li Mei’s body trembled from Hanyu’s cold gaze, and she hurriedly explained.

"M-Manager, I was just checking the prices for these items."

"Why? I don’t recall telling you to do such a thing."

Hanyu lost her gentle and peaceful demeanor; it was replaced with a cold and aloof attitude.

Li Mei was so frightened her body started to tremble even harder and she could barely utter her next words.

"I-I overheard the total price of the items but when I saw them now, I realized that it might not be correct. It-It’s more than five times the original amount."

Hanyu’s expression was placid as she looked at this nosy girl. She didn’t respond to Li Mei’s claim, no, she didn’t even seem to hear it.

Hanyu reached out her hand and the wooden display box floated over to her.

"Let this be a warning, next time I order you to do something, you do it and only the task that I ordered, do you understand?"

It wasn’t like Li Mei didn’t know what was going on, she clearly knew why the price her manager told those two was higher than the original price.

She nodded like a chicken pecking the ground at Hanyu’s words.

Hanyu gave her one last cold glance before turning to leave with the box in hand, however, Li Mei mustered up the courage to say.

"M-Manage, there is also another matter. The items in the box were going to be purchased by someone else, but the person left saying they would return."

Hanyu stopped in her tracks, and she looked at Li Mei with a frown.

"Why didn’t you take them from the display cases?"

"I-That’s because he said he might not return so there was no need to reserve them for him."

Hanyu’s expression relaxed upon hearing that.

"If that’s the case just sell him another item in exchange for the ones he wanted to buy and discount it by five percent."

"But-"

Slam!

The door to the storeroom slammed shut before Li Mei could finish her sentence.

She had wanted to say that all those items in the box were the ones the person had wanted to purchase, however, she never got the chance. And she didn’t want to run after Hanyu to tell her in fear she outright fired her.

Li Mei wanted to cry but she soon calmed her emotions and left the storeroom.

When she came back out, she saw Hanyu speaking with Sol and Mar-Yue. She lowered her head about to scurry away, however, she suddenly saw a youth dressed in black robes enter the store.

Li Mei’s eyes instantly brightened up, but at the same time she felt dejected. With the items this youth wanted gone, he might not purchase anything.

Li Mei was just about to rush over to the youth in black robes before another attendant could get to him, however, she suddenly saw him stop before turning and walking over to the counter where her manager and that couple were talking.

Li Mei winced as she suspected a conflict might happen after the youth in black saw that the items he wanted were being sold.

However, Li Mei’s expression suddenly underwent a drastic change when she recalled the manager had increased the price of those items.

If it were to ever be discovered that they purposely increased the price of their items...

Li Mei’s heart almost leapt into her throat.

However, what could she do in this situation? Hanyu was angry with her, and she couldn’t just go over there to interrupt the sale without offending anyone.

Just as Li Mei was thinking about what to do, she suddenly heard that curly-haired boy asked a question that made her face go pale.

"Miss Hanyu, could you tell me the prices for the items once again?"

Hanyu was watching as Mar-Yue picked up and admired the accessories in the wooden box with joy in her heart. When she heard Sol’s question, she didn’t feel it was out of place and readily answered.

"Young Master Sol, as you know the first two items little Sister Yue chose were priced at twenty million mid-grade Aether Stones and sixty million mid-grade Aether Stones respectfully."

Hanyu pointed at the white hairpin and the bracelet.

"Those two are the ones I like the most."

Mar-Yue chimed in, and Hanyu smiled thinking in her heart that this purchase was already completed. She then lowered her head to list the prices of the other items, not aware that a youth in black robes had silently appeared next to Sol and was listeniing to her with a cold expression.

"The last item that little Sister Yue chose was the named item, silver moon ring. It’s the most expensive of the accessories, pricing at twenty-three million high-grade Aether Stones."

Hanyu smiled and said.

"So, will little Sister Yue be getting them now, or do you want to continue shopping?"

Hanyu looked up but suddenly paused upon seeing the newcomer, but seeing how close he was standing next to Sol, she thought he was perhaps a friend of his. She then recalled the information that Sol was traveling with the fallen son of the Wudang Sect’s Patriarch and thought this youth must be him.

Hanyu didn’t pay any more attention to Woo-seong, though his gaze was extremely rude, he was coldly staring at her for some reason.

After thinking for a moment, Mar-Yue made a decision.

She shook her head and said.

"These are fine, I won’t buy anymore."

Hearing this, Hanyu was disappointed inwardly, but she still smiled and nodded on the surface.

However, her face suddenly stiffened when Mar-Yue then turned to Woo-seong and asked.

"Little Seong, are these the items you chose for me?"

Woo-seong stepped forward and after sweeping his eyes over the eight finely made items inside the box, he nodded in confirmation.

"Great!"

Sol said with a smile before he reached out about to hand over the storage bag to Hanyu.

For some reason, Hanyu instinctively reached out her hand to take it, however, Woo-Seong suddenly grabbed Sol’s hand and yelled.

"Wait!"

Woo-seong then glared at Hanyu and said in almost a growl.

"Something’s wrong with the prices of these items. They are far more expensive than what I was told when I came here not too long ago."

"What?"

Sol’s brows furrowed as he pulled back his hand holding the storage bag and looked at Hanyu with a frown.

Mar-Yue also had a frown on her face.

"Little Seong, what are you saying?"

Woo-seong’s eyes narrowed into slits.

"What I’m saying is that this person is trying to scam us by secretly increasing the price of the items!"

Woo-seong’s voice was enhanced by Aether Energy causing it to travel throughout the entire store.

Everyone on the first floor of the store heard his voice and suddenly turned to look in this direction.

A few people walking into the store even stopped to look.

Li Mei, who was standing not too far away, had her legs give out and she fell to the ground, her face already losing all color.

Meanwhile, Hanyu still had her hand outstretched to receive Sol’s Aether Stones.

Just a moment ago her emotions were through the roof having secured such a big purchase, but in the next moment that big purchase evaporated like smoke.

Not only that, but now her actions of trying to her sell her store’s items at a higher price than their original was found out.

Hanyu’s heart couldn’t help but grow cold, and it almost seemed as if the sky was about to collapse on top of her.

Thinking about what the power behind her might do and the windfall that will happen due to her discovered actions, that statement might be a severe understatement of her current predicament.
