The Growth of a Titan-Chapter 473- Fine, I’ll Wear It
Chapter 473: Chapter 473- Fine, I’ll Wear It
One of the servants weaved through the crowd of disciples and stopped in front of Sol while holding out his tray. On the tray was a single remaining Shadowband.
"Thank you."
Sol thanked the servant and picked up the Shadowband.
The servant turned and left, but strangely this servant didn’t leave through the space tears like the others, but he instead blended inside the crowd of disciples and lingered around Sol’s group.
While holding the Shadowband in his hands, Sol turned it over to examine it. It was smooth to the touch and lacked any designs. Not even a seam could be seen on its surface either. Its silver color made it seem metallic, however, even though it looked like metal and even felt like metal in his hands, Sol had a feeling it wasn’t.
After examining it for a while, similar to other disciples, Sol sent out his Soul Energy to encapsulate the Shadowband. After branding it with his Soul Imprint, something surprising happened. The Shadowband actually lost its stiffness and collapsed in his hands like a normal headband made from cloth-like material.
Sol’s eyes lit up as he saw runes flashing on the Shadowband. They were so dense they covered it entirely, both inside and outside. They were quite high-level as well, likely 7th Tier or even 8th Tier runes.
Sol could only make out a few functions of some of these runes, and that was their ability to change the Shadowband’s structure. But that wasn’t anything since he just saw it for himself.
After thinking for a moment, Sol placed the Shadow band between his lips. The small wine gourd tied to his bracelet then rattled as he re-tied his hair from a high ponytail to a low one that rested on his back. It was either he did this, or he untied his hair to place the Shadowband over his head. But he was becoming quite fond of having his hair tied like this, so he went with the former option.
After fixing his hair, Sol grabbed the Shadowband and looped the hair hanging at the sides of his face through it before comfortably securing it around his forehead.
Just as Sol finished this, the Shadowband actually regained its stiff structure, but he didn’t feel it was uncomfortable. In fact, Sol could hardly tell it was there. From this, it could be seen the Miura Clan put a lot of thought into creating these headbands. Sol even suspected that even Mortals could use this. frёewebηovel.cѳm
As Sol was admiring the Shadowband, he felt a tug from it now that his soul was connected to it mentally. After this tugging sensation, a row of words appeared in his mind. When he glanced over it, Sol was completely taken aback.
Name: Solovin Iziah Solaris
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Cultivation: ***
Home: Eastern Continent, Eternal Desert
Affiliation: Second-year disciple of the Martial Alliance Academy
The information displayed was little but extremely accurate. At least for the fake background Sol was using. Though, when he thought about it, this information was also available in the Underground Academy. But he could only imagine how the other disciples who weren’t in the know were reacting.
Though what might be frightening about this was the fact that this thing detailed one’s cultivation base as well. Though Sol’s own was currently blank. He wondered if his was the only one like this, or if it’s something that was going to be added later.
Just as Sol thought this, something else appeared in his mind. It was a question.
Do you want your cultivation to be displayed?
Yes? / No?
"WHAT IS THIS??!!"
A loud shout suddenly echoed out.
Sol opened his eyes upon hearing the disciples’ uproar. He expected this type of reaction, this basically confirmed that the Miura Clan knew every one of them, and surely the simple information displayed here wasn’t all that they knew.
However, there was one voice that stood out in this uproar. Sol turned his head to the right and through the crowd of Alchemy disciples around him, he saw a figure several tens of meters away.
Altair’s loud voice drew people’s attention towards him; however, he didn’t care as he took off the Shadowband from his head and shoved it towards Sato’s direction.
"Why should we tell you our cultivation bases?! And why do you have this information on us? What are you planning to do with it?!"
Altair glared at Sato as he yelled this.
Quilt, who was next to him took off his Shadowband and dismissively tossed it behind him. One of his followers behind him quickly jumped up and caught it before it could fly away.
After tossing away his Shadowband, Quilt folded his arms and coldly looked up at Sato. The black armor he was still wearing even in this setting trembled lightly and began releasing an ominous aura in response to his anger.
Sato remained calm despite the disciples’ uproar. He glanced at Altair and Quilt before he said with a smile.
"No need to get upset, if you don’t wish for your cultivation to be known then you can choose not to reveal it."
Altair scoffed.
"Just because it’s not displayed to us does that mean you haven’t investigated all of us?"
Sato shook his head.
"Perhaps you are overestimating the Miura Clan. Do you truly believe we can investigate all of your backgrounds and even accurately determine your cultivation base? You young ones are from the Western Continent, that would mean we had only a year to get all of your information and that’s simply impossible. We have no reason to do such a thing, nor do we have the resources to pull off that wide of an intelligence gathering that spans two continents."
"If you truly do not know our current cultivations, then how..."
Altair hesitated, but Sato knew what he was trying to ask so he responded.
"If you were to choose to have your cultivations displayed, the Shadowbands will be able to determine your current cultivation bases with a scan. It can even determine the Martial Arts you use. But if you chose not to then this information will not be displayed, and neither will we have that information."
The disciples all quieted down after hearing Sato’s explanation, but a voice suddenly asked.
"But what’s the point of having this information? Isn’t the Miura Clan just trying to collect intelligence on us? You just gave us a lot of reasons as to why you wouldn’t, or rather couldn’t investigate us on a large scale, but is this situation not you doing just that?"
Even though Sol couldn’t see this person, he recognized the voice to be from Althorne.
"We collect this information not to purely gather intelligence but to protect the Mortals within the Land of Shadows. Using this information will make it easier for us to locate a cultivator that has harmed a Mortal, or simply identify a person’s identity who had died wrongfully. So, we didn’t create this recently for some nefarious reason as gathering intelligence on you young ones, we’ve been employing such methods for many years now."
"So you’re saying that if we are to stay here, we need to follow your Miura Clan and put these on? However, the Miura Clan is known as a Clan full of assassins so what’s stopping you from using this information you collected to carry out assassinations? Why should we trust you?"
Altair was the one to begin another round of questioning.
Still smiling, Sato responded.
"The Miura Clan has not accepted an assassination request for the past thousand years. Unfortunately, this title has stuck with us but believe it or not we have been a neutral force for the past thousand years. And one thing that should be mentioned that most don’t know, is that even though our Miura Clan teaches Assassination Arts to its younger members, it has become more of a tradition than something that will be used in practice."
Even though Sato said all of that, Altair didn’t believe him for a second, and most of the disciples in the crowd didn’t as well. What about the Shadow Sect in Jianghu? It was easy for someone to preach one thing on the surface but act differently in the shadows.
Sol closed his eyes and the option to display his cultivation reappeared in front of him. After a moment of thought, he clicked no. He was sure the others’ decisions matched his own, and it was likely all the disciples here made similar choices as well.
Despite not trusting Sato’s words, Altair still placed the Shadowband back around his head.
"Fine, I’ll wear it."
Quilt blinked when he heard Altair’s words. When he turned and saw that Altair was actually wearing the Shadowband, he panicked and said in a harsh whisper.
"Wait, what are you doing?! I thought we weren’t going to wear their stuff! It’s obvious that they used our research of Alternative Magic to create these things!"
Altair fixed his silk-like silver hair after positioning the Shadowband around his forehead. Afterward, he looked at Quilt as if he was an idiot.
