An ugly frown appeared on my forehead. "Huh? She can fight demons?"

Mrs. Clea sighed. "She made a fake demon hunter uniform and used Myra's magic bracelet," she explained in a serious tone.

I rubbed my temples. How the hell did I miss the bracelet? Even though it wasn't openly sold, Miranda could've easily stolen it. She'd been working at Myra's mansion for ages—plenty of chances to grab it without anyone noticing.

"Right, so I'm assuming she failed the demon hunter test then?" I asked, hoping for some reassurance that Miranda hadn't bitten off more than she could chew.

"Yes. Her emotions are too unstable," Mrs. Clea replied with a disappointed sigh.

I let out a low, regretful whistle. "That's a pity..." I muttered.

Mrs. Clea peered at me intently. "Does she have any reason for doing that?" she pressed further.

I let out a heavy sigh, running a hand through my hair. "It's complicated," I began.

"Myra," I began. "I mean the real Myra," I quickly corrected myself. "She handed Miranda over to an incubus years ago. That incubus subjected her to inhumane treatment, pushing her to the brink of madness. When I finally rescued her, I had no choice but to erase her memory and make her forget. I thought that would be the end of her suffering, but then the demons snatched away her boyfriend's life," I explained.

Mrs. Clea's expression softened. "I see... Cruel fate has truly toyed with her," she murmured.

A heavy silence settled between us.

I had hoped that by erasing her memories and providing her with a fresh start, she could find some semblance of peace and happiness. Yet, it seemed that the scars ran deep, and the wounds inflicted upon her were far from healed.

"Well, my servant has been doing everything possible to support her," I continued. "We've taken her to see doctors, seeking professional help to assess her mental health and offer guidance. But it's clear that her recovery won't be easy," I admitted.

"So we're dealing with a lunatic woman," Mrs. Clea stated.

I nodded. "The police won't catch her, right?" I asked, turning my gaze back to Mrs. Clea.

Mrs. Clea sighed. "Not yet," she admitted with a hint of resignation. "But if she continues down this path, it's only a matter of time before she attracts their attention. Her presence in Lightglen City yesterday has already raised concerns and put us on high alert," she explained. As the chairwoman of the demon hunters, she had a responsibility to uphold order and protect innocent lives, including a troubled individual like Miranda.

"I see... I will do what I can to help her," I muttered, my mind racing with possible solutions.

Mrs. Clea arched an eyebrow, her eyes fixed on me. "Let me guess, are you planning to brainwash her?" she ventured.

I nodded, acknowledging her astute observation. "Yes," I replied.

The idea of brainwashing Miranda may seem drastic, even unethical to some, but I couldn't bear to see her spiraling further into darkness.

"Some memories are just too painful to bear," I added. I understood Miranda's pain on a deeply personal level, and if there was even a slim chance of granting her some respite, I was willing to take it.

Mrs. Clea crossed her arms. "You're just going to make her do the same thing again, Ethan," she warned.

I sighed.

She had a point, and deep down, I knew it. But what other choice did we have? Leaving her trapped in anguish and torment wasn't fair either.

"Look," I began. "Keeping her trapped in this endless loop of despair isn't fair to her. She deserves a chance at a normal life, free from the torment. She deserves a normal life." I shook my head. "You of all people should understand that," I added.

Mrs. Clea's stern expression softened slightly. She had indeed experienced pain and anguish in the past, albeit in a different context. Perhaps, deep down, she did understand.
