Chapter 279: Loved until the end (2)

Annalise found herself pressed to Rafael’s door the moment the door closed after they entered his bedroom. His lips made their way to her lips just her hands made their way into his hair. Her soon fingers became lost in his long strands of hair.

She honestly meant to help him pack his things since she had nothing to do, but she couldn’t complain about this. Especially when he lifted her for her feet to be off the floor and wrapped her around his legs.

There was no question of how much he was going to miss her because she felt it in their heated kiss. He taught her how it was possible to feel the love someone had for you.

Rafael pressed his body to her so much that Annalise worried they might be pushing back on the door too much and causing it to break open. She didn’t know if they would even notice the door breaking if that were to happen.

Annalise once again found it hard to keep her voice down after Rafael’s tongue was added to the kiss and in response, a moan left her lips. She grabbed a handful of his hair and tugged on it slightly out of frustration. She was startled when he suddenly bit her bottom lip, but then excited when he licked the aching spot with his tongue.

"Rafael," Annalise said right after he gave her a little time to breathe. "I can feel a problem slowly happening because of this position. It pains me to say this," Annalise paused, enjoying the feeling of him leaving a trail of kisses down her jaw. "That there is much for you to do and I don’t want to have you more behind time as you already are."

Annalise regretted every single word that left her mouth. His actions had completely woken her up and enticed her to make use of the bed not far from them, but there was a lot Rafael needed to do before he had to leave. Anything more than a kiss would just make having to leave each other harder.

Annalise was already struggling internally with having to leave him and maybe never see him again unless he were to be sent to the border by the king. That would be a reunion Annalise would not be thrilled to be a part of.

Rafael stopped kissing her, but he did not put her back down on the floor. Instead, he locked the door and carried her to the bed to place her there.

Annalise watched Rafael kneel before her after seating her on the bed. For some reason, she felt nervous when there was no reason for her to be.

Rafael stared at her, taking in her beauty so he could remember it clearly while he was away. He moved his hand from his side to palm the right side of her face.

Annalise leaned her head down on his hand, savouring his touch. His hand was a little bit cold thanks to the early morning breeze, but she didn’t mind it. "Are you questioning if you should go to the palace or are you planning to kidnap me to take me with you?" She asked.

"Both and so much more. Keep out of trouble while I am away or as you would say, avoid the trouble that is coming your way. I don’t want to return to you with injuries from fights you got in. Please leave chickens alone and try not to scare anyone," said Rafael.

"I’m afraid I cannot do that. I won’t be at the manor so I can go back to scaring others and chickens with snakes. Before I leave, I need to have a word with those feather bastards outside. Give them a nice threat before I leave. I should make you join me to help scare them," Annalise said, leaning away from Rafael’s hand as she started to plot her last meeting with his chickens.

"I think you’ve done a good job of scaring them on your own. I just want you to stay out of harm’s way while I am gone. I don’t want to return and hear that you are seriously injured or the town guards came looking for you because you scared someone to death," Rafael said, holding her hand in her lap.

He continued to say. "I know that you have been protecting yourself long before me. I just want to return to you in one piece."

"I know that. I will be safe. It might not appear like it sometimes, but I cherish my life. It is you who needs to be told to be careful. Who knows what the king wants you to do and how dangerous it might be? I don’t want to hear about you being seriously injured and having to be rushed to a doctor. Be cocky like you were in the past and make sure no one lands a hit on you again," Annalise replied, touching his shoulder with her right hand since he was holding her left hand.

She still worried about his wound.

"You looked like you would stop your feelings for me when you learned that I was injured so I will make sure it never happens again. I will see to it that you hear many stories of me defeating my enemies. I will also bring my beaten-up armour to let you keep," Rafael said.

Annalise smiled because of how well he knew her. She would like to see his armour after a fight and hear the stories of what caused each bump or scratch. She lowered her head to avoid his gaze as it was destroying her inside knowing that he expected to return to her, but she was not coming back. She was deceiving him and it was eating her up inside.

She thought of River telling her to be honest with Rafael so he wouldn’t have to hear about it from someone else. She had bad luck some days and felt it inside her that one day they would meet again. They were bound to meet with him being a knight and her needing to replace her father in the future.

She worried about his reaction like she did with everyone else since it always ended with pointing fingers and being called a barbarian. However, Rafael had shown her great kindness and spoke of loving her. He also didn’t share the same hatred of the border as many others did.

Annalise was curious how much he loved her. How much he could still love her after knowing the truth.

"Rafael," she said, holding both of his hands. She continued to avoid looking at him since she couldn’t bring herself to do it right now. "Please don’t change."

Rafael was both confused and concerned by the change in her body language and the tone of her voice. She went from smiling and looking him in the eyes to avoiding his gaze and sounding on the verge of crying. She gave his hands a squeeze before lifting her head to look at him.

"I am not-" Annalise stopped as a knock on the door was heard.

"Ignore it," Rafael said since whatever she had to say was more important.

Annalise stared at Rafael. He was ready to listen to what she had to say, but after the disturbance, Annalise took it as a sign that she should not tell him. His unknown reaction scared her and as easy as it was for her to just say that she was from the border, Annalise decided not to.

There was a chance he would continue to love her and also a chance he would back away from her. She could end this in an argument or end it enjoying every last second of him loving her.

"It is nothing," Annalise said, smiling to hide the emotions she was feeling inside. "I like how you look right now. Please don’t change out of these clothes just yet."

Rafael didn’t believe that was what Annalise wanted to say at first, but as always, he had to wait for her to be ready to open up to him.
