The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 284: Moving on (3)
Chapter 284: Moving on (3)
"You’ve been silent since we left the manor and it is bothering me. Are we going to ignore that I watched Annalise kiss you?" Beatrice asked, looking at Rafael whose attention was on the outside of the carriage. "I’m happy for the two of you. A little bit sad since you two will be away from each other, but happy."
"Honestly, son. Is the entire ride going to be you being quiet? It is bad enough that I have agreed to leave my husband, who will get into all types of danger with me gone. The least you could do is speak to me so I am not bored. It is finally confirmed that the two of you like each other and I have no one to speak to," Beatrice said, missing River since he would listen to her gossip.
Beatrice was almost ready to make the carriage turn around to return to River.
"I am thinking," Rafael answered.
"Clearly you are. I gathered that from your silence and as much as I love your thinking, please speak to me. It doesn’t need to be about Annalise. Just say something so this trip isn’t boring me. If you don’t, I will start asking questions about what I saw at your manor," said Beatrice.
"I am only thinking of how long I will be away. Nothing more," Rafael replied to end her curiosity.
"Is it because you fear Annalise might find someone else in your absence?" Beatrice questioned. She didn’t think it was likely since there wasn’t anyone Annalise could find who was better than her son.
"No," Rafael honestly answered. He wasn’t worried about Annalise finding someone else. He was worried about her travelling to her parents and then his uncle.
"Then are you worried about your father? Because I am. I hope we don’t have to stay away too long so I can go back to keeping an eye on him. I thought when he stepped away from being a knight, we could live peacefully. I was wrong about that. I can’t complain much since it is because of me that he has to be fighting again," Beatrice said, nervously playing with her fingers.
She looked out at the lands the carriage passed to distract her mind.
Rafael knew his mother well and knew that if he didn’t distract her, she would spend this time worrying about his father too much. There was one story he could tell to get her mind off his father. "Annalise admitted to having feelings for me the night of the ball," he revealed.
Beatrice stopped messing with her fingers and turned to Rafael. "Is it because I made you ride in the carriage?" She asked, hoping that her plan was the cause of it.
"No. It happened right after the first dance. She stormed outside and I followed her," said Rafael.
Beatrice couldn’t believe she missed such a sight. To see her son desperately chasing after a woman he liked. If only she had not left them she would have gotten the chance to witness this. Beatrice touched her chest as her heart ached from knowing this.
"I have waited to see you running after someone and I missed it. I am almost a little annoyed that your plan to make her jealous worked. It is not a good feeling and I am sure Annalise was hurt. I wouldn’t mind if she hit you," Beatrice said as she would if River did something like this to her.
Rafael didn’t plan on revealing that Annalise flipped him. Not yet at least. Annalise was not going to keep it a secret that she had managed to flip him.
"I see why you were eager to get me and your father to leave when we came to see you to check your wound. There was someone else you had to stop worrying about it. I am happy for you, Rafael. Honestly, when I heard you weren’t spending time with women, I was happy. I don’t want my son to be leaving numerous children all-"
"Mother," Rafael said to stop her. He had been with a few women in the past, but it wasn’t as bad as his mother made it sound. He didn’t go around sleeping with any women who wanted to offer their bodies. He was not some kind of whore.
"All I am saying is, you had me worried that your father and I didn’t show you how good it is to have one person you love. I don’t know much about what changed to stop you from running around all kinds of women, but I am happy you are taking one seriously," Beatrice said, feeling like she could relax now that Rafael seemed to be in love. freewebnøvel.coɱ
"You and father showed me what it looks like to be loved by someone. It takes a special kind of feeling for father to come home after a long journey and eat your cooking with a smile on his face."
"It was never as bad as you two make it to be. I tried my best," Beatrice argued, tempted to slap Rafael over the back of his head for always speaking poorly of her cooking.
"I am aware. You always said you were a spoiled young lady who never had to enter a kitchen so we should be patient and we did even though it could have cost us our lives. I was not to say anything so father promised to train me in secret if I kept the taste of your food a secret. I stopped my relationships with women because I wanted to find someone like you are to father," Rafael confessed.
He told his mother this before, but she would continue to worry about him, and kept forgetting.
"I will only get involved in relationships I deem will be serious because I intend to marry. To let the manor finally have a lady," said Rafael.
"So, you would want to marry Annalise? If she says yes of course. Wonderful," Beatrice said, clasping her hands out of excitement. "You need time to continue getting to know each other. You’ll need to meet her family eventually and get their approval. And a ring," Beatrice said, looking at the one on her finger. "I’m sorry we don’t have any family heirlooms to pass down to you. I will need to gather a few things dear to me so we can start passing them down."
"I hadn’t thought about that," Beatrice now realised. Everyone had something they wanted to pass down to the next generation. "I will find something and place it in a nice box so nothing will happen to it."
Knowing Annalise, Rafael thought she would like it if his father passed down his armour and swords to her. His mother would have a fit if she knew this.
"It is time you get some rest, mother. There is a long journey ahead of us. You can rest on my lap," Rafael offered.
"I am not tired yet. When the day turns to night, I will rest. It has been so long since I travelled to Lockwood. I might get the chance to hear from some old friends while I am there. Don’t worry, I won’t invite anyone over. I don’t want to give away where I am," Beatrice said before Rafael could start to worry.
"No one will be able to get to you. You’ll be staying in one of Edgar’s homes and I will ask him to lend some of his men to guard you. If you wish to spend time with a friend, just tell one of the guards. You don’t have to be stuck in a house all alone. Enjoy this time away from home,’ Rafael advised his mother.
"I hope Annalise takes up your offer to come to Lockwood if she returns to the manor long before we do. She would be the best person to spend this time with," said Beatrice, crossing her fingers as she made a wish for Annalise to join them.
