Chapter 345: Fired (2)

"Please don’t tell me that after an hour has passed, you have not heard the news from Mavis or one of the other maids? Surely you must know by now that I am meant to sit here or are you just going to play stupid to annoy me early in the morning?" Annalise asked as she straightened out her dress.

She wasn’t in the mood to listen to Aria being upset about her being picked as Beatrice’s maid then Rafael’s and now she was sitting at the table. There was enough time apart for Aria to have moved on. They were once friends after all. Annalise had moved on from this the moment Aria started to act differently.

If the friendship meant anything, Aria should let her feelings from not getting picked go, but from the frown Annalise saw, that wouldn’t happen.

"So it is true," Aria said, clenching her fist. She had thought the maids were telling a lie to have fun trying to say Annalise had climbed her way into Rafael’s bed. She believed Annalise being called the lady of the manor was a mockery. "Are you satisfied? Was this your plan all along after saying you weren’t interested in him? Acting all high and mighty while judging the maids who liked him?"

Ezra opened his eyes, intrigued by the conversation Annalise was having with the maid. He kept quiet to let Annalise and Rafael do as they wanted, but he couldn’t stay silent when someone disrespected Annalise. "Does someone care to enlighten me about what is happening? Why is she speaking to you as she likes? You are-"

"No," Annalise said, stopping Ezra from revealing too much. "She is someone who doesn’t know when to stop talking so she doesn’t lose her job. Since you heard that I am now the lady of the manor, you should know about the warnings given by Rafael and Beatrice. You are to hold your tongue before you are fired."

"I won’t be thinking of our old friendship when you are crying about losing good work. I have not forgotten our conversations about you needing this work. Shut your mouth before you need to look for other work," Annalise advised Aria.

Annalise had not eaten yet so now was not the best time to pester her.

Aria didn’t hear about any warnings. She had only heard the maids calling Annalise the lady of the manor. "I was right about you. How you got his attention. There was no reason for you to be picked as his maid. We all knew it. I’m disappointed that I let myself be fooled by you. Became your friend because I thought you were a good person."

"Well, I’m a little disappointed in myself that I didn’t see the real side of the person I thought was a friend sooner. I am an observant person. How didn’t I notice you could be such a jealous person? I need to work on my skills," Annalise said, making plans to work on that flaw. "I am giving you one chance to stop talking to me and walk away. I won’t be so kind for much longer."

Annalise knew she could fire Aria if she wanted, but she wasn’t comfortable doing so when she was just given this power. Annalise was more interested in enjoying breakfast and then finding something to do with herself until she could be alone with Rafael.

If pushed, she would fire Aria. Arguing with an old friend was not something she wanted to do every day. Annalise was showing Aria one last little bit of kindness because Aria needed the job. However, if Aria was not going to respect the rule to watch her words, why did Annalise need to give Aria more chances to not be fired?

Ezra got the jist of what the two were arguing about and was impressed that Annalise didn’t look for the nearest weapon to end the maid and get this nonsense over with. The man Annalise was risking everything for, owned the manor. He should come in here and send the maid away. It would be something Phillip would love to hear.

"Are you going to sit there and continue to act like you didn’t use your body to get ahead?" Aria asked.

It was unfair for her to have to work hard and then someone like Annalise showed up and got everything handed to her. To suddenly be living an easy life. She should have been the one to be Beatrice’s maid and then in the line to become Rafael’s maid.

Aria felt disgusted when thinking back to how she enjoyed Annalise being here to work and not getting close to Rafael to change her status. freewebnσvel.cøm

Annalise sighed, knowing that Aria would be the first maid to go. She listened closely to footsteps coming toward the dining room. It was more than one person or maybe she was getting mixed up with the footsteps of the maid still hustling around the table, listening to her conversation with Aria. It was her first battle with her new status and the maids were curious about how it would end.

"I need to train," Annalise muttered, more focused on the fact she couldn’t pick up where she was hearing someone coming from. This relationship was starting to make her lose focus on her skills.

"Of course, you have nothing to say. Do you think that he will make you his wife? Do you honestly believe that a man like him will make you anything more than a mistress-"

"Are you jealous that I was once his maid or the fact that I sit in this seat? I’m starting to think that it isn’t all about hard work anymore. You need to work on being happy for the people you call friends, Aria. You’re probably calling me all types of names in your head, but did you once stop to think about how fast you turned on me or were we never really friends in your eyes?" Annalise asked.

Aria was a scary person. She was so jealous of her friend getting a job that she was starting to act like a whole new person.

"I don’t need you to be concerned about what I will be to Rafael in the future. You won’t be here for long to know what he will make me. You are dismissed," Annalise said, putting an end to this one-sided feud. "You are not needed to help with breakfast. Go to Mavis and tell her you are to do other work."

"You can’t-"

"She can’t what?" Rafael asked, entering the dining room with Beatrice by his side. He walked holding his mother’s hand as they talked about what she wanted to do for Annalise’s bedroom when he overheard Annalise talking to someone.

Rafael recognised the maid as the one who was waiting around to speak to him when Edgar visited the manor. To tell him about what Annalise did with the snakes to fire her. Then he had come across her and Annalise in one of the halls when Annalise’s rocks were scattered on the floor.

"Tell me. What can’t she do?" Rafael asked, wanting the maid to tell him what the lady of the manor couldn’t do.

Aria tried to find the best words to explain herself to Rafael. She had been so caught up in speaking with Annalise that it didn’t cross her mind Rafael was going to be coming here.

Beatrice was just as curious as Rafael about what the maid wanted to say. It upset her that her warning was not taken seriously. On the first day, someone was already speaking to Annalise as they liked.

Rafael helped his mother to her seat and then moved to stand behind Annalise, still waiting to hear what would be said. "Time is ticking. What is it that the woman I love cannot do in this manor?" He asked.

Aria looked to Annalise to be the one to speak up, but Annalise was not looking her way. Rafael foolishly defended her. Annalise had the Callahans fooled. She had them all fooled.

It started to worry her that Rafael referred to Annalise as the woman he loved.
