Chapter 694: One last gratitude

Luscious tried to use his powers to stop Elliana.

King Eros used his heavenly water technique and created a shield behind Elliana to stop her from getting too hurt.

Rebecca tried to use her black magic to stop the girl from flying too far.

Arizona used her ice shield while Azrael used her speed to grab Elliana’s hand.

Azura used her dark smoke bats to get a hold of her daughter. However, to no avail could anyone catch her.

Her body flew from one side to the other side, the drops of her blood sprinkling everywhere as Elliana screamed in pain.

All those memories that were hidden deep inside her brain started to surface.

All those voices she used to hear in her head and all those images she used to see started to become apparent. Tears brimmed her eyes as she was reminded of the sacrifice her husband made for her, which was the last thing she remembered about him before she decided to perish for him.

’I will forever and always love you, Cara,’

’Only death must do us apart,’

’There will be no one other than you in my heart,’

She remembered her husband’s words, and tears brimmed her eyes. Even if he didn’t recognize her, he stayed single for her. Whether he could feel her or not, his heart remembered her. The moment his pupils dilated when they touched each other and how he was trying to find ways and moments to stay close to her, everything depicted how much he was still attached to her.

’Let’s be friends,’ She remembered his expectant voice and felt blaming herself for causing him so much pain.

Another scream left her mouth as she fell to her knees, and her body finally stopped moving. However, a translucent shield formed around her even after that, and no one could reach her. Not even Luscious. That was the curse of the ritual they had performed to save their lives.

Seeing her daughter in so much pain but not being able to move a muscle to help her, Azura gulped and fell outside the shield formed around Elliana, placing her hands on it helplessly as she saw Elliana struggling.

"Please, someone help my daughter. She is innocent. She didn’t do anything. All her life, she struggled hard to find family’s love, and when she found it, she did it at the expense of her powers and happiness. She always tries to bring everyone together no matter how everyone has treated her. Eros, Please," Azura covered her face with her hands as she tried her best to control her tears, not wanting to appear like a fool before her family, but could she really do it?

Could she really control her emotions after seeing a scene like this?

Arizona felt guilty. She looked at her daughter, who was the cause of it and stood back with a fearful expression on her face. She couldn’t imagine how these people would treat her daughter if something happened to Elliana today. But more than that, she didn’t want anything to happen to her daughter.

Eros looked at his wife helplessly before looking at his father, the only most influential person among them who could help them.

"Dad, I would never ask you for anything ever. Do something, please. Her entire life, I was imprisoned in a maze and was barely able to spend any time with her. Please help us. We are the most unfortunate parents in the world," Eros begged his father.

Hearing his choice of words, Arizona looked down in shame as Rebecca looked at her. She knew she was the reason behind what happened to Eros. Ari saw her father and aunt begging and realized that maybe her sister’s life wasn’t as fortunate as she thought.

In the heat of her jealousy, she did something irreparable.

Luscious looked at the scene before her and smacked his lips helplessly. He wanted to help; there was no doubt about it. He didn’t stay close to his family; somewhere deep down, he felt responsible for what had happened to his son and his family. Thus, he felt equally compelled to help her granddaughter, whom he was starting to love.

However, could he really do something? If things were really in their hands, things wouldn’t have been like this, would they have?

Everyone stood in the hall helplessly as they saw Elliana coughing blood with tears flowing down her cheeks.

"M-Mom," Elliana started but coughed blood again.

Azura shook her head in denial.

"Don’t say anything, baby/ Please, I beg of you. Don’t say anything that will worsen your condition," Azura wailed before the shield. freeweɓnøvel.com

She hit her hands on the shield helplessly, trying to break it free. But it didn’t work.

Seeing her mother panicking like this, Elliana, who remembered everything, smiled at her in pain.

’It’s okay, mom. It’s probably my time. I... I just wanted you to know that you were one of the best mothers in the world. Never blame yourself for anything because it wasn’t your fault. The moment my happy life started, things went downhill, and I was probably never able to show you my gratitude. If the moon goddess gave me another chance, I would still want to be your daughter," Elliana whispered.

Azura shook her head. Tears flowed down her cheeks. She didn’t want to hear her daughter say this. This sounded like a goodbye, and she didn’t want to listen to it. Instead, she wanted her to say she would fight this pain and come out of it alive.

"Stop talking, please." Azura looked behind her helplessly, hoping someone would help her. But she couldn’t find hope in anyone, and the realization hit her hard.

Elliana smiled before looking at her father.

A sigh left her mouth as she wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth.

"I don’t know what to say to you, Dad. You know, when I thought I was just a human, I used to crave the human king’s love. I used to do everything and bear with everything, hoping my father would love me. I was looking in the wrong place. You made me realize what a father’s love is supposed to be like. So selfless and full of care," she smiled as she looked at her hands, blinking her tears to be able to look at her father clearly.

"I remember everything you did for me this year, how you carried me in your arms when you found me helpless under the tree, or how you tried to cheer me up when I would cry for hours because of the emptiness in my heart. I saw you crying in hiding so many times that the thought alone makes me want to slap myself. How dare I make my own father so sad. But I was a helpless father. I am sorry for being such an incompetent daughter," Elliana said, and Eros shook his head.

’You were never incompetent, my daughter. You are the best daughter I could’ve asked for. Don’t forget it’s you who saved my life and freed me from my lifetime imprisonment. You brought us all together. Powers don’t define us. Our heart defines us, and your heart’s of gold," Eros said.

Azrael wiped her tears as she looked at the girl who was in this situation primarily because of her. No amount of repenting for sins could make it right. She was wrong, and no matter how much she tried, the guilt of ruining such a happy girl would always be there.

Elliana smiled.

She shook her head before smiling at Arizona.

"Thank you for raising me for this long and giving me this opportunity to meet my real parents and feel their love," she said.

Arizona wanted to say many things, show her gratitude, and apologize for many things, but she couldn’t find the right words and just nodded her head.

Elliana then looked at Azrael.

"If not for our differences, you were really the best aunt I could’ve asked for. Thank you for taking my offer and staying with the family," Elliana whispered before she coughed blood.

"Elliana! Stopped talking, for heaven’s sake!" Azura shouted helplessly, but her daughter only shook her head.

"I must say this, Mom. I can’t leave without showing my gratitude to everyone. Grandpa Luscious, thank you for coming into our lives at the right time and handling things. Grandma Rebecca, I spent the least time with you, but I know you feel guilty and are slowly trying to adapt to life with everyone. And Ari," Elliana paused before taking a shaky breath.

"I never wanted to steal anything from you. Forgive me if you felt like that, but I was also trying to get as much love as possible because I never had that. At least you had your mother, who kept you in hiding and was with you. I had no one," Elliana said before she blinked her eyes.

Her vision started to blur as she looked at everyone’s faces one by one, a smile etched on her lips.

"I love you, mom and dad," Elliana whispered.

"Send my love to... to.. Sebas-" She couldn’t complete her sentence as her body felt numb to the side, making Azura scream in horror.

"Elliana! No! Elliana! Eros, my daughter!" Azura started to beat the shield helplessly, blood beginning to drip down her palms.

Eros didn’t stop her either. He kept looking at his wife with no emotions as his heart felt like someone pulled it out of his chest.
