Chapter 443: Chapter 443: Realms

Not wanting to prove herself a psychologically unstable person, Gu Jin called Long Yifan for the third time.

Within one ring, he picked up the call.

"Wifey, are you missing me? Don’t worry, I have almost reached the hotel of Fujio City," Long Yifan’s cheerful voice came from the other side.

Gu Jin ignored his words for the time being and asked,

"How much more time?"

"Eh?"

"How much more time will it take for you to reach here?" Gu Jin asked.

"2 minutes." Long Yifan said seriously when he sensed the seriousness in her voice.

"Okay." Gu Jin said and hung up.

After 2 minutes, a knock sounded on the door, and Gu Jin heaved a sigh of relief.

Once she opened the door, Long Yifan checked her up and down before asked,

"Are you alright? Did you get hurt somewhere? Or are there any assassins here?"

Gu Jin blinked before replying in an emotionless tone,

"I am fine, I just want to ask you something."

Long Yifan’s tensed body visibly relaxed, and he asked,

"What is it?"

"Let’s go inside and talk." Gu Jin suggested.

"Alright." Long Yifan agreed, and after entering the room, he removed his shoes and put on the slippers.

As Long Yifan settled onto the couch, he watched Gu Jin closely, sensing the tension in her posture.

She sat across from him, her brows slightly furrowed, her usual composed demeanor replaced with an uncharacteristic hesitation.

"Yifan," Gu Jin began softly, her voice unusually quiet.

"Do you... Remember the teleportation array in the forest between Beijing and Fujio City?"

Long Yifan’s brow arched slightly. "The one we took a few hours ago? Yes."

Gu Jin’s fingers tapped against her knee, her gaze fixed on a spot in the distance. "And... did you ever see anything strange there?"

"Strange?" Long Yifan frowned, leaning forward slightly. "Like what?"

Gu Jin’s lips pressed together before she spoke, her words measured.

"A temple."

Long Yifan’s eyes sharpened immediately. "A temple?"

"Yes." Gu Jin’s eyes locked onto his. "An ancient one. It was right beside the teleporation array of the Beijing city."

Long Yifan’s eyes brightened, and he said,

"Honestly, I haven’t seen any."

His response made Gu Jin feel even more defeated.

"However, have you seen a temple near the Fujio City’s teleporation array?" Long Yifan asked.

"Nope." Gu Jin shook her head with certainty.

"Then it may come as a surprise to...because I did." Long Yifan said softly.

Gu Jin’s head snapped up, her eyes narrowing as she processed Long Yifan’s words.

"You... what?" she asked, her tone laced with disbelief.

Long Yifan leaned back slightly, his expression thoughtful as he met her gaze.

"I saw a temple," he repeated, his voice calm but serious.

"Near the teleportation array in Fujio City."

Gu Jin’s heart skipped a beat.

"But... that’s impossible," she murmured, her mind racing.

"I’ve been to that array multiple times. There’s nothing but ruins."

Long Yifan’s eyes darkened as he leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees.

"That’s what I thought too." His voice was low, almost as if he was recalling something distant.

"In fact, I was the only one who had seen that temple. Later, when I asked others if they had seen it or not, they denied it.

The funny part is that whenever I tried to enter the temple, a barrier stopped me, so I don’t even know whether I was hallucinating or it actually existed.

Now that you have said that you have seen a temple in Beijing City’s teleportation array, I suddenly remembered something. A possibility which I ignored earlier."

"A possibility?" Gu Jin echoed, her tone sharp with curiosity. "What kind of possibility?"

"Sometimes," he began, "when an artifact or a place is sealed with ancient power... it becomes... hidden from the ordinary eye."

Gu Jin’s eyes narrowed, her mind immediately shifting into analytical mode.

"Hidden?" she repeated, her voice cool and calculating. "Like... an illusion?"

Long Yifan shook his head, his expression grave.

"Not quite." He leaned forward, his fingers interlacing as his gaze darkened. "Illusions can be broken or dispelled. But ancient seals... they alter reality itself."

Gu Jin’s brows furrowed, her mind racing to grasp the implications.

"Alter reality?" she murmured. "How?"

Long Yifan’s voice was calm but laced with caution.

"Powerful ancient seals can shift a place... between realms," he explained, his tone low. "What you see... might not be the full truth. It’s like—"

"—existing in two states at once," Gu Jin finished, her voice barely above a whisper.

Long Yifan’s eyes met hers, filled with quiet affirmation.

"Exactly." He nodded.

"The temples we saw... they’re not just hidden. They’re sealed between realms. That’s why no one else can see them."

Gu Jin’s pulse quickened, her sharp mind piecing the puzzle together.

"If they’re sealed between realms..." she murmured, her thoughts racing, "Then why only us? Why can we see it and others can’t?"

Long Yifan’s expression grew even more serious, his brows furrowing deeply.

"That’s what’s bothering me too," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. His fingers tapped lightly against his knee, his mind clearly working through countless possibilities.

Gu Jin’s gaze sharpened, her tone turning analytical.

"There has to be a reason," she said firmly.

"Ancient seals don’t just let anyone through. If the temples are sealed between realms... then only those with a certain connection should be able to perceive them."

Long Yifan’s jaw clenched as his mind raced.

"Bloodlines," he murmured softly, almost as if thinking out loud. "Or... resonance with the realm’s power?"

Gu Jin’s eyes narrowed, her thoughts colliding with his.

"Bloodlines?" she echoed.

"But that can’t be it. We’re not from any ancient lineage... at least, not that I know of."

Her tone was confident, but a flicker of doubt crossed her mind.

The Gu Family was indeed a powerful family in Beijing City, but other than that? They don’t have any connection to any ancient bloodline.

They do have the power to open portals to other worlds, but that is solely because of the uniqueness of their blood...

Long Yifan’s gaze remained steady as he spoke slowly.

"Then... it could be resonance."

Gu Jin’s brow furrowed.

"Resonance?"

"Yes," Long Yifan nodded, his tone more certain now. "Like... the soul of the person who built the temple... or someone who had a deep connection to it."

Gu Jin’s heart skipped a beat, her mind immediately seizing on his words.

"Are you saying..." she began, her voice low, her eyes narrowing as her thoughts raced.

"That we might have some connection... to whoever built these temples?"

Long Yifan’s expression was grim, his gaze steady as he nodded.

"That’s one possibility," he murmured.

"If our souls resonate with the energy that created or sealed the temple... it would explain why we’re the only ones who can see it."

Gu Jin’s jaw clenched, her mind flashing.

"It felt... familiar," she murmured softly, echoing her earlier words.

Long Yifan’s sharp eyes caught the subtle shift in her expression.

"Jin," his voice was softer now, laced with concern. "What exactly did you feel when you saw that temple?"

Gu Jin hesitated for a moment before speaking, her voice quiet but steady.

"An underwater life of a mermaid version of us."

Then she told everything to Long Yifan.

Long Yifan’s jaw tightened, his eyes darkening.

"That’s not normal," he murmured, his tone laced with unease.

"Temples sealed between realms don’t display scenes... unless—"

"—Unless they’re trying to awaken something," Gu Jin finished, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes widening with realization.

A heavy silence fell between them as the weight of her words settled.

Long Yifan’s gaze grew even more intense as he leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees.

"Jin..." His voice was calm but edged with urgency. "There’s something else I didn’t tell you."

Gu Jin’s heart skipped a beat, her eyes narrowing as she caught the shift in his tone.

"What is it?" she asked, her voice sharp.

Long Yifan hesitated, his jaw clenching as if he were weighing his words carefully.

"When I saw the temple near the teleportation array in Fujio City..." He paused, his gaze darkening.

"I didn’t just see it."

Gu Jin’s breath caught.

"What do you mean?" she pressed, her pulse quickening.

Long Yifan’s expression was grim as he met her gaze.

"I felt it, too," he admitted softly.

"Like a presence... watching me. It wasn’t hostile... but it was aware. It was almost as if..." His voice trailed off.

"As if what?" she demanded.

Long Yifan’s next words sent a chill down her spine.

"As if it recognized me," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.

Gu Jin’s eyes locked onto his, her heart pounding.

She thought of the way she felt as if someone was looking at her when Long Yifan left for his competition.

How similar...

So, does that mean they truly have a connection between them?

Maybe the underwater world she had seen was related to their past lives.

No...

Gu Jin declined the assumption subconsciously.

There is no way Long Yifan and she would be connected even in their past life.
