Chapter 221: The Titan King

"We’re here," Elder Thoryx rumbled, his gaze fixed on the massive structure ahead.

It had taken less than twenty minutes of relentless flight to cross the ocean, but the urgency of their mission left no room for delay. The sacred land awaited, and within it, the secrets of the Titans.

Now, they all were back in high spirits, after all, they felt the effects of Kaelthara’s battle clearly, and with such power, they needed not be told who came out on top in the confrontation.

The group landed on a plateau overlooking the sacred site. The structure, a sprawling complex of massive stone pillars and intricate carvings, seemed both ancient and otherworldly. The air was thick with energy, a palpable force that made even the dragon elders cautious.

"This place..." Aelyndra began, her voice trailing off as she scanned the carvings that adorned the pillars.

"It’s older than anything you’ve ever seen," the silver-haired elder said, his voice tinged with reverence. "Even older than most of the dragons still around today. Besides, it doesn’t appear unless in such times."

Lance stepped forward, his sharp eyes analyzing the inscriptions carved into the stone. The symbols were unlike anything he had ever seen in all his lives, but there was something familiar about them—a pattern that hinted at a deeper truth.

As they explored, Lance found himself drawn to a central chamber at the heart of the site. Inside, massive murals covered the walls, depicting scenes of creation, conflict, and devastation.

"These inscriptions..." Lance murmured, his fingers tracing the grooves of the carvings.

An elder approached, his gaze narrowing as he studied the mural. "The Titans and the dragons. This is one of their origin stories, you see."

Lance’s voice was calm but tinged with curiosity. "One of? Can you explain?"

The auburn-haired elder stepped forward, his tone somber. "The Titans and the dragons were both created by the primordial gods. They were meant to be stewards of the earth, protectors of its balance and harmony. The Titans were the enforcers, beings of raw power who could reshape the world. The dragons were the guardians, wise and enduring, meant to guide and preserve."

"Yes. Long ago, the dragons chose to involve themselves with the mortal world. They shared their knowledge and power with civilizations, elevating them and fostering their growth. The Titans saw this as a betrayal of their purpose. To them, the rise of civilizations was a threat to the balance they were sworn to protect."

"The dragons believed that guiding the mortals would strengthen the earth," Aelyndra said softly, her eyes distant. "But the Titans saw it as meddling, as an interference that would disrupt the natural order... And here I thought we weren’t doing enough."

"The Titans turned on the dragons, and a war began. It reshaped the world, splitting continents and raising mountains. In the end, the dragons prevailed, sealing the Titans away with the help of the gods. But the cost was immense, and the divide between the two groups became eternal."

"So now they’ve returned," Lance said, his voice steady despite the weight of the revelation. "And they still see civilization as the enemy."

"Precisely. The stories start in similar fashion and end in similar fashion. But of course, the one you learned of before is the most accurate account." The elder said. "Regardless, when the Titans rise, they will seek the Earth’s Heart to reclaim their full strength. If they succeed, they will remake the world in their image, and by then, perhaps, nothing will be able to stop them... maybe unless the gods descend, but that is even more unlikely."

"This is why we cannot fail," the silver-haired elder said. "If the Titans reach the Earth’s Heart, it may very well be the end."

Lance’s gaze remained fixed on the mural. "Then we have no choice, do we? We’ll stop them," he said, his voice firm. "No matter what it takes."

...

The Earth’s Heart loomed in the distance, a massive, glowing nexus of pure energy pulsing with ancient power. The land surrounding it was a desolate wasteland, scorched and cracked as if the very life had been drained from it. They had emerged from the fallen structures and had covered a lot of distance by now. freёnovelkiss.com

The sky above was darkened, not by clouds, but by the overwhelming presence of the Titans. Their forms towered over the sacred site, each one emanating raw, destructive energy.

The Titans’ power was altering the natural order itself, and their goal was clear: draw the energy of the Earth’s Heart to fuel their ascension.

Before they could advance further, the Titans unleashed their fury. Hurricanes of unimaginable force, out of nowhere, tore through the battlefield, hurling massive boulders as if they were mere pebbles. Lightning storms gathered out of nothing from the nonexistent clouds moments ago, raging overhead, bolts of energy striking indiscriminately and leaving craters in their wake. Other things followed, like earthquakes and the ground splitting.

As all these things went on, The elders, Aelyndra and Lance, had soared over most of it, ignoring most of the chaos.

As they approached, the sacred site came into view. Massive pillars of stone and energy surrounded the Earth’s Heart, their intricate carvings glowing with ancient symbols.

Standing at the center of the site was the largest Titan they had ever seen. Its form was as massive as the colossus Kaelthara had faced, but its presence was far more oppressive. An obsidian crown adorned its head, its surface shimmering with an unnatural light.

"That’s their leader," Aelyndra said, her voice tense.

Elder Thoryx’s eyes narrowed. "The Obsidian King. Part of the first of the Titans, and possibly, now their most powerful. This will not be an easy fight."

"That aside, how come we’re only seeing such a giagantic creature now? I thought the Titans weren’t the magic types? Have they suddenly evolved to use magic? Or are they getting help from some external force?" Lance asked as he was very confused, after all, they had failed to notice such a creature until when they got close enough.

"It’s not them. This is a good time to warn you two. This place is unordinary, just as you’ve just witnessed. Be careful." Elder Thoryx said.

Surrounding the Obsidian King were several other Titans, each one radiating immense power.

"They’re guarding the Earth’s Heart," Lance observed, his gaze sharp. "If they succeed in drawing its power, it’s over for all of us... isn’t that right?"

The silver-haired elder nodded. "Correct."

"Then why are we just observing?" Lance said, his tone and expression almost flat.

"I know you’re young... but no need to be impatient."

With a thunderous roar, the dragon elders descended upon the Titans, their massive forms glowing with divine energy. There was no longer any need for stealth, they had long been discovered.

"Let’s take them down as quick as possible!" The silver haired elder said.

They struck first, claws raking across the Titans, the impact creating explosions of fire and smoke. Following one particular clash, the Titan was shattered with one attack, while the elder emerged unscathed, his golden scales shimmering with power.

The auburn-haired elder unleashed a torrent of wind magic, slicing through a Titan of stone and shattering its crystalline core.

Aelyndra also joined the fray, while Lance, while everyone was busy with the battle, snuck elsewhere, maneuvering through the chaos. Though he couldn’t use offensive magic, his physical strength and healing abilities made him an invaluable asset, though he had not needed to use it yet.

With all the fighting, from its position at the center of the site, the Obsidian King remained still, its glowing eyes watching the battle with cold indifference.

But as the dragons began to overpower the lesser Titans, the Obsidian King raised one massive arm. With a single motion, it summoned a wave of dark energy that radiated outward, knocking back the dragons and sending shockwaves across the battlefield.

Elder Thoryx roared as he confronted the Obsidian King. "Lance, Aelyndra... focus on the others! We’ll handle him!"

Lance hesitated for a moment, his instincts screaming to join the fight against the King, but he knew the elders’ power was unmatched, and his role was to ensure the lesser Titans were eliminated.

As the battle raged on, the Earth’s Heart pulsed with energy, its glow intensifying with each passing moment. The Titans were drawing power from it, and despite their efforts, the balance of the fight hung on a knife’s edge.

"We’re running out of time," Aelyndra said, her golden eyes narrowing as she unleashed another torrent of flames.

Lance nodded, his jaw tightening. "We need to finish this as soon as possible."
