The Reaper's Wicked Obsession-Chapter 71: Bone Eaters
Chapter 71: Bone Eaters
"Behind you!" Isadora yelled, with urgency.
But it was too late, the creature had already sunk its teeth in her arm, her blood splashing around from the force, her lips parted but no sound came off her.
Fastening its needle-like teeth around her arm, it hurled her across the distance and lunged after her once more.
Isadora kicked to her feet—despite the biting pain, hastening with her sword in hand.
Hearing a screech she turned her head and found them, the creature had its invisible razor-sharp claw around her throat as she struggled to move.
The girl glared at the creature, who unleashed a terrifying screech to her face but that only pissed her off.
She moved her good hand to conjure a weave but it was difficult to concentrate when it was squeezing the life out of her.
Out of nowhere, a blade pierced the creature’s chest and that momentary distraction was all she needed to summon her weaves, the water transformed to ice fang. With a graceful swing, she cut off the creature’s head.
Black blood sprayed on Isadora’s face prompting her to gasp. The creature’s body fell to the ground, giving flinches until it eventually ceased.
The girl snapped her fingers so that she could catch Isadora’s attention.
"Next time, make sure you go for the head. Bone eaters don’t die from being stabbed in the chest," she signed in a fast movement to convey her words.
Isadora stared at her dumbfounded.
The girl sighed and rolled her eyes, this was going to be a difficult situation.
"I-I’m sorry, I did not understand you."
The girl waved her hand dismissively. Without any more gestures, she walked past Isadora.
"Wait!" she called, following behind the girl. "What is that thing? And is this the third challenge?" she desperately asked in need of answers.
Were they meant to fight those creatures? This was far worse than she expected.
The girl came to a halt, her eyes scanning the area, the first bone eater she killed was gone because she didn’t have the chance to finish it off properly.
Isadora’s fears spiked when she saw the empty ground and the black blood leaving trails.
She was certain that thing was pierced, so how in gods’ name was that thing alive?
The girl bit her bottom lips, that thing would come back here with more. She turned to the mannfae and exhaled.
This was the only choice she had at the moment, but she would make do with it.
Isadora’s trembling eyes landed on the girl’s arm, the gruesome sight broke her heart, a chunk of her flesh was eaten off and her bone could be seen.
It was almost as if the creature took off the chunk to get something it deemed appetizing.
The girl snapped her fingers gaining her attention, she was still in shock and she hoped she could get some understanding between them if they needed to survive this.
Isadora gulped as the girl pointed to both of them and she realized she was trying to communicate simply for her to understand.
"You and me?"
The girl nodded before crossing her fingers.
"Tight?"
She rolled her eyes and emphasized more on it.
"Close?"
She shook her head.
"Together?"
She nodded but then shook her head.
"Um..." Isadora was confused but searched her brain for what she could mean. "Team..."
A wide smile broke from the girl’s lips and she nodded quickly.
Isadora gulped. "Is that what the third challenge is about?"
She nodded.
Briefly, Isadora’s eyes veered around the place. "So as a team, we face this challenge and that..." her eyes leveled to the black blood, and her mind raced.
The girl snapped her fingers for Isadora’s attention again, pointing to her visible bone.
"Bone."
She nodded, pointing to her mouth, and did an eating action.
"Chew?"
She rolled her eyes, getting frustrated.
"Oh! Eater?"
She threw her fist into the air in triumphant victory.
"Thank you for saving my life," Isadora said sincerely.
The girl didn’t know how to explain that she didn’t exactly save her life, she just needed a teammate since the others didn’t agree to join with her.
But oh well as long she had her on her side she could win this.
Suddenly the dizziness found her, she shook her head to get rid of it. That can’t be good. Quickly, She pointed to both of them.
"You and me?"
She nodded and began walking ahead.
Isadora gulped, having no other choice but to follow her, she limped her way toward her side.
"So what’s your name? You can draw the letters, I’ll understand."
~♧~
Her name was Vanya.
It took some tries but Isadora was able to get a grasp of her gestures much to Vanya’s frustration.
Vanya dug her hands in a pile of mud and used it to rub her face and neck.
Isadora stared in disgust at the muddled pool, but there was not much she could disagree with right now. This was meant to throw off their scents from the Bone eaters.
Sighing, she dug her hands into the mud and followed Vanya’s instruction, the feeling of the cold wet dirt on her skin caused goosebumps.
"I can heal that," Isadora offered, briefly pointing at her wound she had somehow tied up with a material, the stained blood was enough to show she was still losing blood and needed medical attention.
Even though Isadora’s hands still hurt she would be more than willing to help her. She saved her life after all.
Vanya paused and glared at Isadora like she had sprouted two heads. She raised an eyebrow in question.
’A mannfae who can weave?’ she thought, puzzled. ’She could be lying, she cheated the Spine.’
Vanya shook her head in a no.
"You’ll keep losing blood" Isadora insisted. "Please let me help."
Vanya didn’t look pleased by her push but Isadora was beyond determined to help.
"Fine then... let me heal you, so I don’t owe you for my life," she suggested, hoping this would convince Vanya that she doesn’t have a choice but to let her.
Vanya simply pointed to the skies to signify that it was getting dark. She rose to her feet and walked away.
Isadora sighed heavily as she limped after her.
