The Spare's Second Chance in Apocalypse-Chapter 221: Ch : A Ridiculous Idea- Part 1
Chapter 221: Ch 221: A Ridiculous Idea- Part 1
Heera’s discomfort was impossible to miss as she stepped inside the building.
Her nose wrinkled slightly, her eyes scanning the surroundings like she was inspecting something beneath her.
Selene noticed the subtle frown tugging at the corner of her lips, but she held her tongue. For now.
"Follow me."
Selene said, her tone clipped.
She led Heera down the hallway, her footsteps echoing softly against the tiled floor. Ethan trailed a few steps behind them, quiet but watchful as always.
Selene stopped in front of one of the rooms and pushed the door open.
"Here."
She said, stepping aside to let Heera enter.
The room was one of the best ones in the center.
Clean, neatly arranged, and spacious enough for comfort. The bed had fresh linens, the furniture was functional, and there was even a small desk in the corner.
By all accounts, it was more than adequate.
But the moment Heera stepped inside, her expression twisted.
Her eyes darted around the room, her lips pressing together in thinly veiled dissatisfaction.
"It’s... small."
Heera muttered under her breath.
Selene’s jaw clenched.
Heera ran her fingers along the edge of the desk, her nose crinkling.
"And it feels... claustrophobic."
Selene took a deep breath.
"And the bed...Are the sheets even high-quality? They feel a little—"
Heera turned toward Selene, her lips pursed.
"Enough."
Selene’s voice was sharp, cutting through the room like a knife.
Heera froze, her eyes widening as she looked at Selene.
"I’ve had it! I don’t have the patience to deal with your complaints, Heera."
Selene said, her tone dangerously calm. Her fists clenched at her sides.
Selene’s eyes hardened as she stepped closer. "You hired us to protect your life. Not to cater to your spoiled whims."
Heera’s lips parted, but Selene didn’t let her speak.
"One more complaint, and this entire cooperation? It’s over."
Selene said, her voice dropping to a cold whisper.
The weight of her words hung heavy in the air.
For the first time since they’d met, Heera looked genuinely scared.
Selene didn’t wait for a response. She turned away, her frustration barely kept in check.
"I’ll assign someone else to assist you."
Selene muttered, her tone flat.
Heera’s eyes widened in panic.
"Wait—what?"
Selene had barely taken a step toward the door when Heera’s hand shot out and grabbed Ethan’s arm.
"Ethan! Please... can’t you help me instead?"
Heera’s voice was almost pleading as she clung to him.
Selene froze mid-step, her back going rigid.
Ethan’s expression was unreadable as he glanced down at Heera’s hand on his arm.
A flicker of amusement danced in his eyes as he looked up, catching Selene’s reaction from the corner of his eye.
For a moment, he said nothing.
Then, his lips curved into a mischievous smile.
"Hmm, I might be able to help..."
Ethan hummed softly, his tone thoughtful.
Selene’s blood boiled instantly.
Ethan’s eyes flickered toward her again, as if gauging her response.
He was enjoying this.
Selene’s grip on the door tightened.
’Oh, he thinks this is funny?’
"Fine."
Selene snapped, her voice laced with irritation.
Ethan’s smirk grew, but Selene didn’t give him the satisfaction of seeing how much it affected her.
"Do whatever you want."
She turned on her heel and strode out of the room without another word.
Her heart was pounding, her chest tight with frustration.
She didn’t stop.
Not when she brushed past Rize in the corridor.
"Selene?"
Rize called out, her tone laced with concern.
"Not now."
Selene said, her voice clipped.
Rize blinked, surprised by Selene’s abruptness, but she didn’t push.
"Alright..."
Selene barely registered it.
She just kept walking, her footsteps echoing as she put distance between herself and... them.
Rize lingered in the hallway for a moment, watching Selene disappear around the corner.
Then, with a sigh, she turned toward the room Selene had just left.
When she stepped inside, her eyes immediately landed on Ethan—and the unfamiliar girl beside him.
Ethan glanced up, his expression smoothing into a calm, neutral look.
"Rize Spencer, welcome."
Ethan greeted, his tone as casual as ever.
Rize’s gaze shifted to the girl clinging to his arm.
"Who’s this?"
Rize asked, her tone polite but curious.
Ethan gently pried Heera’s hand off his arm and stepped back.
"This is Heera."
Ethan said with a hint of amusement,
He gestured lazily toward her.
"She’s the daughter of the president of XXX Company. She hired us to keep her alive.
He added.
Heera gave Rize a quick, hesitant smile.
"Nice to meet you..."
Rize’s expression didn’t change. She glanced between Ethan and Heera, her sharp eyes picking up on the tension that still lingered in the air.
"Selene asked me to take care of her."
Ethan added, his tone a little too casual.
Rize’s brow arched slightly.
"Did she?" frёewebηovel.cѳm
Ethan’s lips twitched.
"She did."
Rize’s eyes narrowed just a fraction.
"Alright. I’ll handle it."
She said slowly.
Meanwhile, Selene kept walking, her thoughts a tangled mess as she tried to calm herself down.
Her footsteps slowed as the initial surge of frustration faded, replaced by something... heavier.
She stopped in an empty corridor, leaning against the wall as she took a deep breath.
’Why did I react like that?’
Her fingers curled into her palms, her nails pressing into her skin.
It wasn’t like her to let someone like Heera get under her skin.
And yet...
Her mind drifted back to the sight of Heera clinging to Ethan.
To the way Ethan had smiled.
To the way her chest had tightened painfully at that moment.
Selene clenched her jaw, forcing the thought away.
’It’s nothing.’
It had to be nothing.
But the ache in her heart told her otherwise.
She hated this feeling.
Hated how... vulnerable it made her feel.
Her mind tried to reason with her.
’It’s just because Ethan was too close to Heera.’
But that explanation felt... hollow.
Because deep down, Selene knew the truth.
This wasn’t just about Ethan getting close to someone else.
It was about how much she cared.
And that realization hit harder than she wanted to admit.
Selene closed her eyes, taking another slow, shaky breath.
"Get it together."
She whispered under her breath.
There was no room for feelings in her mission.
No room for distractions.
Especially not now.
But despite her best efforts, the weight in her chest didn’t go away.
And for the first time in a long time...
Selene wasn’t sure how to push it down.
