Chapter 101: The Death of Caden Voss

"Kill? Kill your fucking ass! If anyone’s dying first, it’s you! Fuck you!"

Veil stepped forward, grabbed Caden Voss by the hair, and began stabbing—thud, thud, thud—over and over again.

Caden tried to resist, but even at his peak he wasn’t Veil’s match—let alone now, while he was critically wounded and on the brink of death.

Within seconds, his chest was riddled with gaping stab wounds, blood pouring freely from each one.

"Fuck... you vicious old bastard!" Caden cursed, blood oozing from the corner of his lips as his body collapsed backward in a straight line.

Even in death, he couldn’t quite wrap his head around it.

All he had done was ask the old man to help him kill someone. Not only had he not received an answer—

He got stabbed eighteen times in under three seconds?!

What a pathetic way to die.

Blood Mandala, dragging her heavily injured body, limped over and glanced down at Caden’s wide-eyed corpse.

She gave Veil a strange look.

"What are you staring at him for? He’s dead. Pupils are gone. There’s no faking that. And besides, don’t pretend you don’t know how many times you stabbed him."

"Forget being human—

Even if a bull had taken that many hits, it’d be dead ten times over."

Veil ignored her. Instead, he pulled a small white porcelain vial from his coat and began pouring its contents over Caden’s body.

Hiss... hiss...

White smoke rose from the corpse, followed by frothing bubbles. Flesh and skin began to dissolve right before their eyes.

"Corpse-dissolving powder?" Blood Mandala blinked in surprise.

"Okay, seriously—are you the assassin, or am I? Why do you look more professional than me? Even cleaning up a body, you’re using high-grade chemical agents?"

"Can you not talk so damn much? It’s annoying. Don’t you know the dead deserve some basic respect and silence?"

Veil shot her a glare, rolling his eyes in irritation. He waited until Caden’s body fully dissolved into a pool of blood and seeped into the soil, leaving behind nothing but a tattered pile of clothes.

He then pulled out another vial, poured a new liquid over the remains, and struck a match.

Whoosh—whoosh—whoosh!

Bright flames burst into the air, casting a crimson glow across Veil’s face.

But it wasn’t over yet.

This was his second time eliminating a Child of Fate, and compared to the first, Veil was far more skilled—and far more meticulous.

He reached into his coat once more and pulled out a small speaker. He flicked it on.

A dramatic, orchestral score began to swell from the speaker.

Boom! Vrrrm—

Boom, boom-boom—boom, boom!

"..."

The music started low, almost mournful, then slowly climbed into something grand and ridiculous. It was as if a black conductor in a round hat was directing a symphony with a cane in hand.

Boom! Boom-boom—boom, boom!

Vrrrm—

Boom-boom, boom-boom!

"What the hell is this music? Why does it sound so weird?" Blood Mandala couldn’t help but shiver slightly, her injuries momentarily forgotten.

"You wouldn’t get it," Veil snorted.

As a qualified villain—

Simply killing someone and burning their body wasn’t enough to show his level of professionalism. There had to be post-murder aftercare—a send-off service, if you will.

And for a bastard like Caden Voss, who’d tried to kill him?

Sure, Veil would offer a bonus rite—but not a high-end one. Caden didn’t deserve that much.

A lullaby was the perfect fit.

"Sleep forever, why don’t you. Forget reincarnation. Hell, even God probably doesn’t want to see you."

"Bye-bye!"

Veil kicked some dirt over the dying embers, snuffing out the last flame.

And just like that, the Child of Fate, Caden Voss, vanished from this world—completely and utterly.

"All that just to kill someone?" Blood Mandala rolled her seductive eyes. Despite her pale complexion, the expression somehow made her even more alluring.

She eyed Veil’s outfit curiously.

"Do your clothes have hidden compartments or something? How the hell are you pulling out so many things?"

"Shhh. Not now. Give me a moment. I need to reflect in silence. I mean, yes, I agreed to help you kill Caden Voss, but this... this was still a human life. I need some time to come to terms with it. Just give me a moment."

Veil pressed a finger to her lips and closed his eyes.

His face was filled with conflicted emotions—guilt, urgency, as if he were truly burdened by the weight of what he’d done.

"Is he really feeling remorse?"

Blood Mandala was briefly fooled by his expression. A trace of sympathy stirred in her heart...

Until she saw Veil’s lips curl into a smile while his eyes were still closed.

A series of dings echoed through Veil’s mind. He coughed lightly, then muttered to himself, "Open panel."

"Over two million villain points? Not bad at all."

Veil carefully scanned his panel. It was clear that Caden Voss’s death had yielded over a million villain points—about two hundred thousand more than what Roy had offered.

The rest had been accumulated bit by bit through painstaking effort. Every point was hard-earned.

Both the Solar Overdrive Body and Inner Breath Technique from the critical reward surges were incredibly rare. Just closing his eyes, Veil could already feel the flow of cryptic knowledge in his mind. His body was noticeably warmer, evidently enhanced in all aspects.

Previously, his Constitution was at 320. After focused training and consuming four Marrow Cleansing Pills—completely extracting every last bit of medicinal effect—the stat had risen to 360. The recent kill granted an extra 20 points, raising it to 380.

With the Second Revolution of the Nine Revolutions of the True Dragon active, he could now unleash a combat power of 855.

Compared to freshly emerged Fate’s Chosen like Caden Voss or Roy, they weren’t exactly infants to him... but definitely underdeveloped children.

The only downside was that as his Constitution increased, the probability of gaining more points diminished. It wasn’t as easy as before.

Still, the system had some decency—critical reward surges, skill fusions—it had upgraded his Medical Skills to the Divine level and his Danger Perception to Advanced.

After reviewing all his gains, Veil didn’t immediately start the lottery. Instead, he walked toward Blood Mandala and silently took out a Beauty Pill.

This wasn’t something acquired through the lottery. Ever since Lisa had developed the pill’s formula, it had disappeared entirely from both the system store and the lottery center—not even once did it reappear.

Lisa’s version was the ultimate variant, crafted in secret. It wasn’t sold to the public due to the cost of rare ingredients, making mass production unfeasible.

"What’s this?" Blood Mandala looked at the pill in her hand with a confused expression.

"It’s a Beauty Pill. It’ll heal your wounds. Just swallow it," Veil said as he handed her a Marrow Cleansing Pill as well. "This one enhances Constitution. You’re too weak—couldn’t even kill a poisoned Caden Voss. If I keep someone like you around, you’re just a liability. You need to get stronger. This time I’m helping you. Make sure you pay it back next time."

Blood Mandala snorted but didn’t hesitate. She swallowed the Beauty Pill and pocketed the Marrow Cleansing Pill.

Moments later, while still adjusting her breathing, her eyes flew open in surprise. She looked down at her wounds, which were visibly healing at a rapid pace.

In under ten minutes, most surface wounds were nearly closed. At this rate, she’d be fully recovered in just a couple of days.

"Don’t act so surprised," Veil said with disdain. "Once you’re with me, you better get used to this kind of thing. It’s normal, understand?"

Blood Mandala stared at Veil as if he were a walking treasure trove.

How could this guy have so many amazing things?

She hadn’t taken the Marrow Cleansing Pill seriously at first. She doubted anything could be that miraculous. But after experiencing the effect of the Beauty Pill, she had no more doubts.

Anything Veil gave was guaranteed to be top-tier.

"Let’s head back."

Veil tore off the human-skin mask from his face. As they walked back, his figure subtly shifted and morphed. Blood Mandala, walking beside him, couldn’t hide the fire in her eyes. Her expression brimmed with envy, as if she were seconds away from dropping to her knees, begging him to take her as his disciple.

They retraced their path, but found the road ahead blocked off by police.

Apparently, while chasing Caden Voss, Veil hadn’t bothered cleaning up the body of the girl from the hype squad. A passerby discovered it and called the cops.

Leading the investigation team was none other than Harvey. She was at the scene when she noticed Veil and Blood Mandala approaching. Her expression tightened, and after saying a few words to a colleague, she strode over.

"What are you two doing here? Don’t tell me you’re involved in this case?" Harvey’s head pounded. She’d been running around nonstop these past few days, barely catching any rest. Now this. The moment she heard about it, she rushed over, still half-dazed.

Seeing Veil and Blood Mandala only deepened her sense of frustration.

Blood Mandala shook her head. "The girl was killed by Caden Voss. But he’s already dead."

Harvey groaned. "Where’s the body?"

Blood Mandala pressed her lips together, hesitated for a moment, then said, "If you hurry, you might still catch a whiff of him.

But wait too long, and there’ll be nothing left."

"..."

Harvey’s beautiful mouth twitched uncontrollably. She sighed and turned back, resigned, to resume her investigation.

Veil watched her leave, then leaned toward Blood Mandala with a smirk. "See the difference between you and her? Following me—that’s your luck.

Even if it hurts a little, clinging to the wall and biting your lip still beats clocking in to work."
