Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared-Chapter 38 - Unexpected Encounter in the Amusement Park
38: Chapter 38: Unexpected Encounter in the Amusement Park
38 -38: Unexpected Encounter in the Amusement Park
Usually when a man and a woman go out together, the man takes the lead while the woman simply hopes to be guided.
That’s why Su Hui followed Gu Fan’s lead.
If they were going out to have fun, then they might as well have
as much fun as possible and forget all their troubles.
Gu Fan took Su Hui to the largest amusement park in the city.
They rode every thrilling ride — from drop towers to roller coasters, screaming with no end in sight.
The sensation of freefall from the drop tower gave Gu Fan and Su Hui the feeling that their souls were being flung out of their bodies.
Their hearts pounded and took a long while to calm down.
The intensity and thrill of the roller coaster, together with the visual shock of the steep plummets, had them both feeling like their hearts were about to give out.
“Let’s take a break, take a break!” After a day of fun, Gu Fan needed a moment to rest.
He had been on roller coasters before but he had never met someone like Su Hui who wanted to immediately get back on after each ride.
He secretly wondered if this policewoman was too domineering.
At night, when the amusement park was all aglow with beautiful lights, Gu Fan accompanied Su Hui on a carousel ride, indulging in her youthful enthusiasm.
He also tried his best to take photos for her.
The two also rode the Ferris wheel together, watching the cityscape from its highest point.
They talked, laughed, and at times exchanged piercing gazes.
Their eyes seemed to clash, stirring a strange feeling in their hearts.
Even though they purposely avoided eye contact, the feeling lingered.
They amused themselves until six o’clock in the evening.
There were still two hours until the amusement park closed, but after half a day of frolicking, they felt they’ve had their fill.
They started buying various snacks and chatting while walking.
“Are you familiar with this place?
Are you in the habit of bringing girls here often?” Su Hui asked casually.
Gu Fan chuckled and replied, “We university students have a lot of time.
I visited the place twice with Lu Yi and the others.
This is my third time.
It seems like you’ve never been here before.”
“I’m busy with work, with a backlog of cases to deal with.
Where could I find the time?” Su Hui looked around at the people coming and going.
Despite the late hour, everyone was still having a great time.
She really was grateful to Gu Fan for bringing her here.
“I’m going to take you somewhere.” Gu Fan said with a brilliant smile.
It immediately made Su Hui curious about what kind of surprise he had in store.
Under Gu Fan’s guidance, they arrived at a small lake.
From afar, they could see the lights of the rollercoaster tracks, which looked beautiful.
The tracks resembled a coiling dragon ready to ascend to the heavens in the dark night.
“This place is great, take a picture of me here.” After saying this, Su Hui gave a charming smile and made a ‘peace’ sign with her fingers.
“Miss, you’re so beautiful, could you not make the ‘scissors hands’ in every photo?” Gu Fan said as he took the picture.
Suddenly, he furrowed his brows like he saw something.
Feeling strange, Su Hui inquired, “What’s the matter?
You look troubled.”
“I think I see two people I know.” Gu Fan squinted at the crowd behind Su Hui.
Since it was already nighttime and the lighting wasn’t sufficient, he couldn’t see clearly, so he took a few steps forward and even tiptoed to get a better look.
“Friends?
You should go say hi.” Su Hui suggested.
“They’re from my school but not from my class, so I don’t know them well.
However, they are from the dance club,” Gu Fan said, feeling a bit uneasy, not knowing why but sensing that something was off.
Su Hui frowned and wondered, “Dance club students, were they the ones who entered the secret room?”
“That’s correct.
If I haven’t mistaken…” Gu Fan was about to say something when Su Hui walked towards the two.
She gestured for him to come over and gave him a smile, “If you want to confirm, why not get closer?”
At her words, Gu Fan couldn’t help but smile.
Then, together, they started briskly walking towards the two students.
Gu Fan wondered if these two had also skipped class.
Considering the amount of people at the amusement park and the insufficient lighting, Gu Fan and Su Hui once lost sight of their targets within the crowd miraculously finding them again and again.
Each time they caught up, the two would disappear again.
Gu Fan even bumped into a few people in his haste to catch up, drawing some complaints, “Can’t you watch where you’re going?”
After a lot of effort, they finally got a good look at the two students who had paused to buy something.
They were indeed from the dance club — the boy was called Wu Fei and the girl Chen Ying.
They were a couple, and during the last group activity, they were put in the sixth group.
Since pairs were required for the task, there wasn’t anything unusual about them coming to the amusement park together.
Gu Fan just wanted to confirm their identities and had no intention of saying hello.
“Alright, it’s nothing.
It’s getting late, let’s go back.” Just as Gu Fan finished speaking, Su Hui’s face turned serious.
And before Gu Fan could leave, she grabbed his arm and pulled him back.
Gu Fan was surprised, “What’s wrong, Sister Su?
Don’t you want to leave?
Come on, we’ve been playing the whole day and are worn out already.”
“We can’t leave yet, something is off.” As Su Hui finished speaking, she followed Wu Fei and Chen Ying closely which baffled Gu Fan.
He had no idea why Su Hui was so eager.
Along the way, Wu Fei and Chen Ying were laughing, fooling around, occasionally stopping, while Su Hui and Gu Fan kept their distance, unseen by them.
Gu Fan couldn’t contain his curiosity, “Sister Su, what’s going on?
Why are you so curious about our classmates?”
Su Hui’s expression was solemn, “You remember what you told me, right?
The missing students had all gone into the secret room.
Until now, you don’t know whether someone is playing tricks in secret or whether it’s a paranormal event.”
“Yeah, you’re right.
Do you have any leads, Sister Su?” Gu Fan started to get nervous.
Given Su Hui’s sharp intuition, she wouldn’t be alert for no reason, so Gu Fan stared at Wu Fei and Chen Ying more closely.
They continued to follow behind, adjusting their pace to match the couple’s.
This rhythm allowed Gu Fan to detect something.
“There are people, people adjusting their pace, just like us.” Gu Fan finally noticed something wrong.
Following Wu Fei and Chen Ying were three men, stopping when they stopped, pretending to chat, or look around at the scenery.
When Wu Fei and Chen Ying stopped, they stopped too and likewise, when they moved on, the men followed.
Stalkers, Wu Fei and Chen Ying were being stalked.
Gu Fan immediately thought to call the couple but he realized he didn’t have their contacts as they were not close acquaintances.
With no other option, Gu Fan called Lin Xi directly but the signal was poor at the moment which left him frustrated.
Su Hui reassured, “Don’t worry, we’ll follow closely and protect them secretly.
There’s a chance we could find out the truth about the missing students.”
Gu Fan thought to himself, with Su Hui’s well-trained skills and rich experience as a police officer, there’s no reason why they couldn’t crack the case.
At this moment, Su Hui whispered, “Be careful, I have a feeling there are more people watching the couple than just those three men.”
“You’re joking right, please don’t scare me, Sister Su, how many of them can you handle?” Gu Fan replied, while surveying the surrounding attentively, but he couldn’t seem to spot the clear danger Su Hui pointed out.
Su Hui added, “I don’t even dare to look back right now, for fear that we are being followed too.”
“Oh my gosh!
Do you rely on a woman’s sixth sense when solving cases, Sister Su?” Gu Fan was a bit scared now, drenched in cold sweat, but then thought there were people all around and they’re not alone.
It shouldn’t be easy for their enemy to make a move in these circumstances.
The activities of Wu Fei and Chen Ying followed the three points Gu Fan had mentioned earlier: don’t interact with strangers, don’t act alone, and don’t go to deserted places.
It should theoretically be much safer like this.
For some reason, Gu Fan’s heartbeat accelerated as he started having strange images in his mind.
For example, a sudden gust of wind blowing up dust and rocks, forcing him to close his eyes.
When the wind settled, he would find that he’d lost sight of Wu Fei and Chen Ying.
After walking a while longer, the three suspicious men were still following Wu Fei and Chen Ying.
Gu Fan confirmed without a doubt that not only were they being followed now, they were definitely stalked before.
This was not paranoia, someone was really playing dirty tricks behind their backs.
Su Hui couldn’t help saying, “It seems someone did monitor your house last time.
My speculation wasn’t wrong, but…” At this point, she looked puzzled.
If someone was indeed monitoring Gu Fan’s house, why did they retreat when she was about to take further action to investigate?
Moreover, there have been no suspicious characters near Gu Fan’s house since then.
“Hold on, if Wu Fei and Chen Ying are being followed, what about me?” The thought made Gu Fan break out in another cold sweat as if some demon or ghost were closing in on him from behind.
Gu Fan tried to remain calm, pretending to talk to Su Hui face-to-face.
In reality, he was trying to see if anyone was following them from behind.
At that moment, Gu Fan and Su Hui stood facing each other, chatting.
Gu Fan was supposed to keep an eye on anyone suspicious from behind Su Hui, while Su Hui was watching Gu Fan’s back, keeping an eye on Wu Fei and Chen Ying’s every move, as well as the three men.
Although Gu Fan didn’t possess Su Hui’s acute investigative abilities, after observing for some time, he didn’t see anything suspicious.
But in the process of observing, they unintentionally fell behind Wu Fei and Chen Ying.
They saw the couple suddenly speed up, excitedly running towards the only haunted house in the theme park.
“Oh no!” Gu Fan and Su Hui quickly chased after them, but more people were moving towards the haunted house, blocking them from getting close to the couple.
Even though they could see them, it felt as though they were miles away.
A sense of impending doom welled up in them.
