To His Hell and Back-Chapter 115: Master Can’t Ask Rewards
Chapter 115: Master Can’t Ask Rewards
"She’s His Highness’s human pet. For someone who never wanted to deal with humans or vampires alike he had chosen a human girl to stand by his side," said Paolo as the carriage shook and swayed. He could see Juan’s eyes narrowing as he placed his hand under his chin in a thinking pose. "Don’t you see it too? She seems quite interesting, one who doesn’t fear when standing beside vampires."
"She did?" Juan furrowed his eyebrows and shrugged his shoulders, "I hadn’t seen the girl too carefully to see what she was doing. She didn’t seem so interesting."
Paolo laughed at his words, "You are always and only attracted by beauties and so maybe she didn’t strike to your taste but to acquire His Highness’s attention when other people have failed, that speaks volumes to just how intriguing, isn’t it? A human who does not flinch does not cower, even in the presence of the Crown Prince himself when most would tremble at his shadow."
Juan leaned back, arms crossed as he rolled his eyes. "Perhaps she’s simply naive. Or foolish. Humans often are. She isn’t as interesting as you make her to be Paolo."
"You think so?" Paolo mused, his tone light but laced with something thoughtful. "Perhaps you are correct."
Juan could see her smile and tapped his fingers against the armrest. "You think she’s important?"
"No," he answered while looking into his eyes, "Just interesting."
Juan shrugged his shoulders, "Anyway, rather than the court let’s talk about our life instead, how is your son?"
"He is well," answered Juan as he hummed, "Though he has been quite interested in a few things these days that it had made it too busy for me to see his face often." Juan continued to answer to Paolo’s words while he recalled again about Arabella and his smile spread as he looked forward to how interesting the court have became.
Meanwhile, back in the castle, Arabella was standing before the carriage, kicking the rocks as she was bored to her mind. Renard had left first to assist Cassius, while Karnala wasn’t much of a talker, holding her own thoughts in silence.
Then Cassius stepped out with his coat hanging around his arms, his lips drawn into a line as his eyebrows were furrowed. He turned to Renard, saying, "...foolish idea. Knowing how rare we could ever land a hand on that potion again, it’s a foolish idea to allow the researchers to handle it. Especially when they are all funded and work under Morgana."
"However His Majesty has agreed to the proposition," said Renard with a brief sigh, "Without Sir Wilhelm, it would be hard to convince His Majesty that we could look into the potion-"
"I don’t care," Cassius paused to his feet and turned to Renard he lowered his face and his voice turned demanding, "Now you go off and drag Wilhelm that bastard by his neck, I don’t care what you have to do even if he threatened to take his life for the eight hundred times again. I will take that potion back once we’re back to the castle."
"But how could we acquire the potion from Her Majesty’s hands?"
Cassius’s red eyes stopped at Arabella before he let out a smirk, "Well for that I have my way."
Arabella felt a chill crawl up her spine as Cassius’s smirk deepened. As he approached, she warily narrowed her eyes over him. She could tell there was a dangerous gleam in his crimson eyes, one that she had come to recognize as the look he wore when he was about to do something reckless... or brilliant. Often, it was both.
She backed herself to the carriage, wary. "What are you thinking?"
Cassius tilted his head, his smirk widening. "Why, my dear Arabella, are you accusing me of scheming? How cruel of you. Shouldn’t you be very delighted? We are about to see your sister now."
She thought about Ariel and all her thoughts quickly became eager. But suddenly she recalled something important and squeezed her hands together, "But... I don’t know where she is."
"That you don’t have to worry," Cassius answered him as he snapped his finger, "You surely haven’t forgotten who I am? With a flick of my finger I can easily find your sister’s location and I can assure you that last night she was still in the shop, safe and sound."
Hope emerged in Arabella’s heart. To see her sister again- how could she not be overjoyed?! It’s been a while since their last meeting. She had gone through a lot and so did her sister she was sure of it.
She swallowed, her excitement tempered by suspicion as she looked up at Cassius. He was watching her closely, crimson eyes gleaming with something unreadable. Cassius never did anything out of pure kindness, there was always an angle, a game to be played.
"You won’t suddenly ask me to do something in exchange will you?"
"Oh well, my pet doesn’t trust me enough," he hummed, placing his hand around his chin and showing a saddened expression but she rolled her eyes, seeing through his smile. "Well I could ask you a lot of things but to show you my sincerity, no. Besides I haven’t done something far too amazing that you even have to pay back in return. All you want is to see your sister right?"
"Really?"
"Really," he confirmed and raised his fingers, "Don’t ask me really again. I give you my words and I have never failed to fulfill them. Whether it’s a promise to end someone’s life or to give them half of my entire wealth. I’m loyal, you know."
"Yes, yes," she smiled, too happy to even care about his usual narcissistic remarks. "You’re kind and loyal, and you’re extremely nice to your one and only pet," she sang, "The best master."
"Mhm and one day that best master will ask you for a reward," Cassius smirk as she turned to him, raising her eyebrows. freewebnσvel.cøm
"See, you are going to ask me for something!"
"Hey, I am asking for a reward. Besides I haven’t told you what I want," he sighed softly and leaned forward while his arms were crossed in front of his chest. He had smiled softly and whispered to the shell of her ears, "Maybe the reward could be enjoyed not only by me but you as well. I think you’re someone who is rather weak to things that would please you."
