Chapter 149: Crossing Weapon-II

Queen Morgana’s eyebrows immediately raised. She turned to him, instead of looking through the mirror as she had been doing. Then she crossed her arms, narrowing her red gaze, "What do you mean by saying that, Malvo?"

"Isn’t that what you have been worried about, mother?" Malvo asked her in return, "I heard it from Lucien that the talk of marriage has been weighing down and considering how you have been quiet and distressed these days makes me to question if it’s due to the woman who would be engaged to brother Cassius. It must have worried you considering how she would also determine the future of Versailles."

Inwardly Queen Morgana sighed. Unlike the baby in her stomach, Malvo wasn’t the king’s son. It’s due to the fact that she had been a servant before and during that time she was married to her human husband. She was never satisfied by her human husband who wasn’t only poor but also immensely too giving yet lacking when it comes to giving her what she had always dreamt of. But the king was different. He had everything that Morgana had always wanted. Title, weakth, and authority so she would never be looked down by anyone ever again.

After taking fancy of her for serving him as a maid, the king eventually took her from her husband, killing her husband in the process but was never known to anyone, not even her own son Malvo. To the outsider’s view, he husband had died in a freak accident while he was working in the castle, found dead hanging while fixing the roof which then lead to her meeting the King and the rest became a history.

Malvo also only knew this side of the story but that was what had made him so lacking in her eyes, just like her late human husband. He was far too kind with no ambition, even wanting to help Cassius so sincerely and had always seen Cassius as his own blood related brother. But how foolish was this? Cassius was their enemy and he should have known that but Malvo always looked up and even admired Cassius and she couldn’t openly taught him how to hate and to realize that their goal had always been to kill Cassius for fear of how naive he was and would instead run to everyone else and speak the truth about her ambition.

Queen Morgana had soon abandoned this human and stupid son of hers, thinking that it was better to think of him as dead and an idiot rather than partaking in his fairytale like life.

"Indeed I was worried," she lied through her teeth, "What could we do if Lady Genevieve had instead chosen a woman who would drive a wedge between us and Cassius? It’s worrying indeed and considering how that woman has always despised my presence, I am even more worried."

"That is true," Malvo said, humming deeply as he had pulled his brows into a thinking ponder, clearly distraught and worried, "I wish that the woman who would become Brother’s wife is a sensible woman, one who understands how the castle works and value family above any others. I do believe that Lady Genevieve would choose someone good but indeed I do worry as words had it that the lady had chosen a princess from Querrant Kingdom."

"Querrant Kingdom? Isn’t that the neighboring kingdom from which Lady Genevieve came from?" This would mean that the princess is somewhat related to the late queen, who is Cassius’s mother.

Queen Morgana bite the insides of her cheeks upon finding this out, clenching her fists tighter than ever. It would be even more troublesome for her if Cassius had gotten an ally, especially the support of a powerful kingdom by marrying the princess. It’s been well known that though Querrant kingdom is small and rather lacks the size to be considered threatening, they are all pure bloods even their commoner and the homeless beggars. The people in the kingdom all have such monstrous power that though they weren’t much to begin with they could easily take control of Versailles if they had wished to.

The only reason why Querrant kingdom hadn’t tried to harm Versailles was because the late Queen is the cousin of the royals in Querrant kingdom.

This would make the Princess though not blood related to Cassius but still a part of the family and could became an even bigger support that would cause power imbalance in the court, also threatening her position and her soon to be born son.

"The Princess is known for her intellect and gentle character," Malvo continued, "But it seems that there had been a problematic evidence about the Princess."

"Problematic?" Queen Morgana turned towards him, "What kind of problematic? Have you heard this from Lucien as well?"

Malvo nodded with a sigh held between his lips. He showed his concern with a frown, holding his hands together, "Well it’s about her jealousy."

Queen Morgana narrowed her eyes further, the gleam of curiosity laced with opportunity. "Jealousy?" she echoed, voice soft but dangerous. "Go on."

Malvo hesitated for a moment, lowering his gaze. "Yes mother... Apparently, the princess has been known to show signs of possessiveness and... how should I say it? It’s rather an irrational temper when she feels she is being overshadowed. Lucien said there were rumors back in Querrant about how she nearly exiled her handmaid for being too friendly with a visiting nobleman. And another time, she demanded a court lady be stripped of her title simply because she danced too close to someone she had fancied during a celebration."

"Oh," Morgana drawled slowly, lips curling slightly, "how very inconvenient... for someone destined to be queen. A queen should learn how to coexist with other ladies of the court especially for the kingdom’s future."

Malvo, unaware of the gleam forming in her eyes, kept talking. "Some say she even used a curse once, though it was never proven. The records were sealed by her family. But it created unrest, and she was sent away for a while. I believe that is why she was kept from courtly appearances until now."
