Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife-Chapter 23: The inn incident
Chapter 23: The inn incident
It was as if her soul had left her body and traveled back to that fateful day.
Ave found herself in the middle of a crowded market where merchants called out to customers to browse their stalls, with countless people moving about. The weather was gloomy and overcast, and she could see fog escaping from everyone’s breath. Most of the people passing by were wearing cloaks in various colors.
What surprised her was that she couldn’t seem to feel the cold, and when a woman passed through her body from behind, Ave gasped in horror. She was invisible to them!
What was she doing in a market when she had been in a room in the palace with that prince?
Ave panicked. She was about to run back and find her way to the palace when a familiar face caught her eye among the crowds. She wouldn’t have recognized the person with the hood over her head if the wind hadn’t blown it off for a moment before she quickly pulled it back on—however, not before Ave had seen her red hair and familiar face.
Wasn’t that Selene? Wait, wasn’t she Selene? Ave thought, looking down at her own hair, surprised to see that it was blonde. She was in her original body!
Her happiness was short-lived as she knew this wasn’t real. She’d somehow ended up here for some reason, and the only way to find out was by following that little bitch, Selene. freёweɓnovel.com
With that thought in mind, Ave ran after the black-cloaked woman with the hood over her head and a basket in her hand. Now closer, Ave also noticed she wasn’t alone; Lydia was following behind her, cautiously looking around while her mistress walked confidently without glancing back.
They walked to the inner part of the market and into a small village where Ave noticed were all commoners in clothing too thin for such cold weather, going about their daily lives. Ave wanted to take a closer look around, but Selene was walking too fast for her to linger.
After what seemed like twenty minutes of walking, they arrived at an inn with a signboard that read "The Silver Moon Inn." The inn she had risked her life to find that night, not knowing it had been demolished for the same reasons she had been transmigrated to the past.
Ave followed closely behind Selene, who left Lydia outside to keep guard. Poor Lydia looked frightened, pale with cold, and shivering.
The moment Selene stepped into the cozy inn which had no customers but a single man standing by a window, he turned around at the sound of Selene’s approaching footsteps. It was the third prince. Selene ran into his embrace, and his arms closed around her.
"I missed you so much," he whispered as he covered her face with light butterfly kisses that made Selene giggle shyly. She whispered back, "I missed you too."
"Did anyone follow you here?" he asked as he pulled her towards a door. Ave followed closely behind them, unseen.
"No, it’s just Lydia. She’s keeping watch for me outside," Selene replied as the prince closed the door behind them and began to help her out of the thick cloak, which he flung casually to the floor.
"Good. Because I intend for us to have a good time today. I heard Lucian and Brother Alden won’t be back until the day after tomorrow." He covered her mouth in a kiss that made Ave’s skin crawl. She wished she were there to slap some sense into Selene.
She was married, for goodness’ sake! Though Ave didn’t believe in love or marriage, she hated cheaters. If you know you won’t be faithful, then don’t get married in the first place!
"Caelan," Selene whispered as he began to strip her clothes off while kissing her hungrily and savagely.
"Hmm?" he hummed without slowing down, even when she tried to push at his chest.
"W-wait a minute," she muttered, pushing at his chest more firmly this time. When he finally stopped, Ave could see the annoyance on his face as he looked down at Selene and demanded, rather impatiently, "What? Didn’t we agree on no interruptions once we started?" His hands were still caressing her body.
"I... I was just going to tell you that I... I recently stopped bleeding from the medicine you gave me weeks ago when I told you I was with your child. I was in so much pain for days, and what if we did it again and I got pregnant with your child again? I mean, I don’t want to go through that pain again. I’d rather have the baby for us..." She whispered softly, not meeting his gaze, her face flushed, and her fingers toying with his long brown hair that fell over his shoulders and chest.
Caelan smiled as he tipped her chin up and pecked her lips. "You look more desirable when you act shy, my love." He caressed her cheek. "I won’t make the mistake of releasing inside you again. Last time was a mistake that won’t repeat itself. I’ll pull out before I come; you have nothing to worry about."
"But..." Selene looked hesitant, ready to argue, but he kissed her again. Ave watched as they made out in a way that made her feel ashamed. She had never been as disgusted as she was now while watching them.
She looked away from them, waiting for whatever had brought her here to take her back. She didn’t need to see more than she already had—or she might end up strangling Selene if she found herself back in her body again.
No matter how Ave tried, she couldn’t leave the room; her hands passed through the doorknob instead of opening it, and her body refused to pass through the door. She was forced to stay in the room, filled with Selene’s moans and Caelan’s groans.
"What sort of nonsense is this? Whoever brought me here better take me back before I kill these two in this room!" she yelled angrily, looking around for whatever spirit or magic had made her soul travel back to this day.
Ave had no choice but to stay in the room until the two were done. As they dressed, Caelan didn’t even bother helping with Selene’s back dress buttons as she struggled with them. He was too busy grooming himself in the room’s mirror, running his fingers through his hair as he whistled to himself.
"Caelan," Selene called when she finally finished with the buttons and was panting slightly. When he hummed, she continued, "I sometimes feel sorry for the second prince."
"Why?" he asked, turning to face her with a frown.
"I feel sorry for him because he trusts me, despite the fact that I’ve never liked him. Even when I was little, everything I did for him was for your sake. Because I want you to be Emperor and free me from my mission of having to stay with him until the day you take the throne. I don’t know why I feel sorry for him, but I wish I didn’t have to see his face again. I wish it was you I married first..." She said this with her head down, and because of that, Selene didn’t notice the look he gave her—like he didn’t give a damn about whatever she was saying—but Ave saw it.
He smiled immediately when she lifted her head to look at him. "Darling, haven’t I told you time and again that even if you married my brother first, it doesn’t change the fact that you are mine and I will make you my wife? All you have to do is keep reporting to my mother whatever Lucian is doing, and keep feeding that poison she gave you to his meals until the day he finally falls to his death. Only his death will set you free."
Ave could not believe what she was hearing. Selene’s mission was to kill her husband! She was the one after his life in the first place, which was why he was after hers now.
Just as Ave was processing this, the door to the room was kicked open. Standing right outside the room was none other than Lucian. If she had thought the look in his eyes when he tried to strangle her to death was scary, that look was nothing compared to this one, which held a mix of hurt, pain, and disbelief.
In a flash, Caelan fled the room through the window, somehow leaving behind a frozen Selene, who looked as pale as a ghost upon seeing her husband in a room she had just shared with his brother.
The son of a bitch was a coward! Ave thought, wishing she was in person. She would have caught him before he fled and held him down for Lucian to beat him black and blue.
Ave watched as Lucian began to step into the room while Selene backed away towards the window. "W-what are you doing here?" she asked shakily, her body trembling.
"I should be asking you the same thing, Your Highness. What are you doing here?" he said in a dangerously low voice that made Ave feel the rage emanating from him, even though she was just an invisible bystander.
"I... I thought you were still on the battlefield... How did you come back earlier than you said you would..." She stammered, still backing toward the window. "Don’t come close to me or I will scream..."
"Go ahead and scream so the world knows what a disgusting bitch you are—so you can be hanged in the gallows of shame where disgraceful women like you belong." His voice was venomously low as he advanced on her, his steps deliberate, his gaze a storm of fury. "I should have known that you’d played me for a fool from the start. How could you, Selene?"
"I...I didn’t play you. I was only helping the man I love to get what he deserves."
"And what about me?" he asked, sickened.
"You don’t deserve to be on the throne. You are not even human. I never considered you a human for a moment since I’ve met you. And after what I heard you say to Zane about killing the Empress and her son when you get the chance, I want to see you fail. Y-you are a monster...!"
Lucian’s hands balled into fists, and his eyes burned with fury. When he spoke, it was like the words were wrenched out of his throat. "I will show you what a monster I can be when betrayed."
Hearing those words and seeing his angry face, Selene scrambled to the window frame, panic-stricken. Before Lucian could reach her, she climbed up and leaped from the window.
The invincible Ave rushed to the window just as Lucian did. She saw Selene’s body plummet to the ground, unmoving. Her head had struck a stone, the impact evident from the blood pooling up beside her body and her eyes were wide open as they stared lifelessly at the sky.
Was she dead!
Before Ave could make certain of that, she felt the wind pulling her away from the scene, and in a flash, she was back in the palace in the room with the third prince, who was now trying to get her out of her dress while kissing her neck.
