Transmigrating from a zombie world to become the mecha kings wife-Chapter 664: Emory unfinished...
Chapter 664: Emory unfinished...
The ceremony had nothing to do with her and Scarlet had zero interest in it. It was just another excuse for nobles to remind everyone about how much their great ancestors had sacrificed for the empire to get to where it was.
The only difference with this years ceremony was that everyone that had participated in the mission of closing the last space crack was going to be rewarded.
The emperor had been quick to share that great news after the mecha warriors returned. It was a big achievement for him to accomplish during his reign. Winters would no longer be a season to dread but one to enjoy.
On top of that, he would be restoring the fallen house of Varakas with it’s rightful lady, Lora Storm Varakas. Arya and her mother were keeping their new names apparently, leaving the past in the past.
Scarlet thought it was laughable to leave their old names behind when Lora had practically hunted down to extinction every former enemy of her family that had been alive. Even the ones that had entrusted their bodies to organizations that used technology to preserve them until such a time when science found a way to restore life to them, she unplugged.
Families whose foundations were built on the Varakas family fortune were being sued, including the current Varakas industries because they were selling technology which belonged to their family.
There was no such thing as leaving the past behind, not until she was satisfied with her vengeance.
Adler found a channel that was showing the ceremony live and he picked up the plate of large hot wings which Gertrude had so generously served him and he dug in.
Scarlet barely glanced at the television and she looked away. "Why should I go when I can watch it from here? Not that I am interested in it anyway. Without my husband here, Folsom is getting the highest accolades. He has also comfortably made himself the new face of the thunder death army."
She knew that human Folsom was a good guy but what he carried inside of him was a cunning creature that she wanted as far away from here as possible.
She had ordered for angel weed to be planted in all of her castles, around wine country, her resort on the grey star. Basically, if she had her way, angel weed would become as common as ordinary grass on the Sun star.
Her actions did not please the deities of course. Word had already been sent to her through Grimm that she should not go overboard because life angels had a role to play among humans like grim reapers.
Adler sighed and he told her in a regretful voice. "The people need a face, they need a hero."
He couldn’t help wondering if maybe Scarlet was mad at everyone for this reason. The emperor had asked for their opinion on pushing Folsom forward as the leader of the mission that brought the men home. Scarlet had made it abundantly clear that she was against it. Everyone else had reluctantly agreed because someone had to be presented as the hero.
If Esong was pushed forward, questions about his absence would be asked by the commoners and nobles alike. Questions the emperor was not ready to answer.
He looked at her with peculiar interest. Something had happened three months ago that prompted this change in his sister but he couldn’t pinpoint what it was. "Why don’t you like Folsom anymore by the way?"
"Aren’t you tired of asking that question too?" She replied.
"Because you always say that you have nothing against him but in the last three months, he has been by twice to visit and you turned him away. How can I not assume that you don’t like him anymore?
He is the one man that has been hearing from your husband, he could have brought news about Esong but you turned him away. It’s rather suspicious, is it not?" He replied.
He licked the sauce off two of his fingers and looked at her. "You are keeping secrets sis, and it’s getting sus."
"Sus!!" Scarlet exclaimed.
"It’s short or suspicious." Adler told her. He tried to sound cool when he said it but he just came off sounding ridiculous to her.
She laughed softly and said, "I know what it’s short for. I am just wondering how you know it?"
He shrugged and replied, "Elroy is catching me up on the latest slang the kiddos are using lately. He said that he learned it from you."
She shook her head and gasped rather extravagantly. "I do not talk like that. I used the word once, just once and Elroy took it and he run with it. I can’t believe that he is telling people I taught him that."
Her brother gobbled up another hot wing in two bites. These hot wings were called so for a reason. They were very spicy, made to suit her taste lately as she craved only spicy food.
Most people couldn’t stand it. Elroy had cried after taking one bite of her spicy shrimp with rice. Her mother now had a love hate relationship with tacos, thanks to the spicy beef tacos she had tasted. Adler however was like a man with a water cooler in his mouth. He could eat extremely spicy food without taking a single sip of water or wincing.
"I am not people." Adler told her. "Oooh, look, Lora’s name has been called. Let’s see if she will really be made a duchess.
"Does your future mother-in-law approve of you using her name that way?" ƒгeewёbnovel.com
Adler scoffed. "You call Emory Wu, Emory. What’s the difference between us?"
Scarlet raised a finger and said, ’One difference, just one. Emory is not a good human. She is a hateful individual who thinks the world should revolve around her. I am sure she is badmouthing me around the castle because I am not on some hospital bed pretending that I am so devastated I just might die."
Emory had been in and out of the hospital for three months straight. There was nothing wrong with her, she was just being overly dramatic. And Scarlet was right about Emory badmouthing her because she was truly doing it.
Adler could not understand Emory Wu and her motivation to continue disliiking Scarlet. "I honestly thought that she would change with the news of your pregnancy. I thought it would be the thing to bring you two closer."
"Oh, she did. She changed for the worse when she found out that I am having girls. According to her, girls cannot be mecha warriors and I should try harder next time to have boys." Scarlet laughed ans she recalled that conversation.
Adler put down the plate and exclaimed. "She said that to you, really!"
"Oh yes. She even added that I should also try harder next time not to embarrass Esong by carrying the children naturally in my womb because it’s unnecessary and I have brought undesirable gossip and shame on the noble house of Wu."
