Chapter 673: All the vain deities.

Unnamed Dead world.

It was said that the deities could be vain but the humans had no idea just how vain they could be. Even in such times when they were fighting a war, they did not forget to enjoy their luxuries and comforts. An entire palace had been shifted from one realm and brought here just so they could sit and enjoy the war comfortably. They sat in their high chairs like grand lords and watched their minions fight it out from below.

The official war of course would not begin until Scarlet arrived, not until they set their eyes on the baby that the deity of life wanted the most. It would not begin until after a decision had been taken once Nyx was finished pleading his case.

So, for now, they opened up a tournament and watched life angels and grim reapers battle one on one as a way to pass time. Hundreds of deities, minor and major all gathered and descended on this dead world, taking sides and waiting to be entertained by the main event.

All was going well until the two goddesses of fate started fading away, which caused the goddess of love to scream in a panic and draw the attention of everyone. Suddenly, they went from entertainment to confusion.

The weaker gods left the dead world rather quickly. It was never a good sign when one of them died and a new one took their place, especially when the one that died seemed to be surprised.

They all knew fate to be arrogant. She would not volunteer to be erased or erase herself. It was better to be safe than sorry in a capricious climate.

It was not just the deities that freaked out, their creations started freaking out as well. Word started spreading rather rapidly downwards, a deity was dead.

Among the major gods, accusations were quick to fly. This was especially for the two whose war this was.

"What have you done?" The god of death asked the god of life.

The god of life laughed dryly and he responded. "Why does it have to be me?"

The old deity looked around, arms spread out an his eyes speaking rather obvious volumes. "Because fate is on my side, why else?"

It was plain to see. If anybody here had played a trick it had to be the god of life. He wanted his side of supporters to be bigger than those of the underworld.

"I would not resort to such dirty tricks but you underworld gods are more than capable of this. You are playing a dirty trick in order to win sympathy points but I will not fall for it." The deity of life looked at one of his generals and he ordered, "Begin the assault."

The old deity looked at one of his generals and relayed the same message.

Tridon watched the two with interest from his high seat. He didn’t bother to get down or react to the surprising death of the goddess of fate. "I thought we agreed not to begin fighting until after we have heard from the mother of the child. Doesn’t any of you understand patience?

Wait for a few a while and ask the new goddess of fate about what happened to her predecessor. Unlike you guys, I am more interested in seeing the little reaper again. Does anyone know if she has put to birth yet?"

"I say she has." Apheitos said. "Fate was the one with the most interest in her child aside from you Apo. Maybe you should watch your back."

He laughed and Tridon laughed as well. For Tridon, the answer to who had killed fate was rather obvious.

The way the stronger gods had quickly adjusted, you would think that one of them had not just vanished before their very eyes.

Carnelia teleported in, with a disturbed look on her face. She looked around furtively and hurried over to the god of death. Pulling him aside, she whispered something to him.

The god of life watched them with unveiled interest. He wanted so much to know what they were whispering about.

Lythia teleported in as well and just like Carnelia she went to the god of death and whispered.

"What are you whispering about?" A dissatisfied god of life asked loudly.

He roared and the skies shook but the other gods did not flinch. They could also do the exact same thing.

"Underworld business." The god of life replied with a smirk on his face.

The god of life groaned unhappily. The smirk on the face of the old deity ticked him off. He knew something that__, no, they all knew something that he didn’t know and he didn’t like it.

"I won’t wait anymore, we are going to war right now." he declared.

Lythia turned over to him and she said, "They are on their way. A little patience goes a little way brother. The council has agreed to hear their case after all. You don’t possibly think that you are bigger than the council do you? Are you trying to say that you are greater than all of us?"

"You have a smart mouth." Apo said to Lythia.

"I have been learning." Lythia responded with a smile.

"Fine, we can wait, but it makes no difference. If she refuses to hand over the child to me we are going to go to war."

"What right do you have to the child. Are you the father?" Carnelia asked him.

"My seed..."

Carnelia waved her hand rudely and she said, "Yeah, yeah, whatever, still doesn’t make you the father of the child and it doesn’t give you the right to the child." ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

The god of life exploded like grenade, yelling out, "A child of life cannot be raised by the dead."

Lythia tilted her head and she laughed mockingly. "Who says that it’s a child of life? I saw the children after she gave birth and I can assure you that all the babies have red eyes. We have five grim reapers, no life angels. Even if the trait is there, the nature of her parents has covered overwhelmed it. So, using your logic, a child of death cannot be raised by the living."

Lythia’s words created some noise and re-considerations among the other deities. If the child was not a life angel, then why claim it? The realm of life had no right to it, simple.

Apo could sense that Lythia was swaying the other neutral deities over to the side of the underworld and he decided to say something to return them to undecided mode. "There would be no children without my seed. Nyx stole from me and he used my seed to get himself five illegal bundles of joy." He kept pointing to his chest to emphasize that he owned the seed. "That alone gives me the right to claim the children. I don’t just want one anymore, you have successfully drawn out my anger and pettiness so now I want them all and I am going to have them."

Scarlet and Esong teleported in when he was making that last statement. They stood before the deities who looked at them curiously, wondering where the babies were.

Immediately, Scarlet looked at the god of life and said, "I would love to see you try."
