Chapter 676: The council______3

To the deity of life, nobody, not a human or creature that had been created by them had ever been more arrogant than the reaper in front of him. Every single time she opened her mouth, she managed to infuriate him. He looked at the pair below condescendingly, one was a thief and the other was rude and she talked a little too much for his liking.

If it were up to him, he would strike her down immediately, however, his actions needed justification. In his view, the more that she talked, the more he was justified.

The head of the council, Tridon looked at his fellow gods and then at Scarlet. While he found her charming and delightfully interesting, he was sure that many others did not. "Little reaper, do you understand the gravity of the situation right now?"

Scarlet nodded. "I do."

"Do you still maintain your stance?"

Again, she nodded. "I do."

"Do you understand that I will have no choice than to allow force to be used in order to retrieve the children from you? You do not need to take a hard stance with everything, sometimes you must be soft in order to achieve your goal. All we want to do is confirm that all of the children are reapers. You have the word of the council that no deity here is going to take away a single child forcefully. We are gods, oir word is our bond. If you cannot trust anything, you should at least trust that fact."

Tridon spoke softly, assuring her of the intentions of the others. Only one or two deities here had any intentions to claim a child from her.

"What if we promise not to prick, prod or paw, as you have put it?" The god of deceit asked.

The other deities groaned.

The god of war loudly asked, "Why do you have to open your mouth and talk? Everyone knows that you lie when you talk. Even you breathe, walk, eat, laugh you are lying. You are the god of deceit after all."

"I was just trying to be helpful." The god of deceit mumbled.

He looked down and smiled slyly. He was sitting on the side of those that were standing with the underworld. He was among the few gods that were actually hoping for a war. He thought it would be too boring if things were settled peacefully so he decided to rile Scarlet up a bit.

"Tsk, tsk, look at his rosy face. The day you begin helping is the day the god of help must retire." The goddess of truth chortled. When deceit was happy, his face turned red which always gave away his lies, not that they needed to see his face before knowing that hae was lying.

Deceit looked around and responded, "I don’t see him here, do you? Someone ought to do his job."

The god of help was a minor deity who had not even come for this council meeting and held no interest in the war. He was off dealing with human affairs, helping the millions that sought help.

Sarcastically, the god of the sun said, "And you volunteered out of the goodness of your soul?"

Deceit shrugged and replied, "What can I say, I have a big generous heart. I am more generous than the minor gods of generosity."

There were five gods of generosity, sitting at the back and all five looked at deceit with contempt. Whatever he said, it was best to believe the opposite. If he was more generous than them, then they might as well erase themselves.

"Let’s not get side tracked again." Tridon told the others, quite authoritatively.

He could see that the god of life was quite ready to commit murder. The white light in his eyes had returned and he was seconds away from blasting someone.

Down, Scarlet and Nyx were whispering as the gods got side tracked and when Tridon told the others not to be side tracked, they raised their heads.

On their behalf, Scarlet spoke up. In a steely voice she announced to the gods, "We have decided that you can take a look at our babies. However, if anyone tries something, don’t blame us for being impolite."

Nyx was the one that had hidden the babies away. He released the life pods and covered them with his wings. Under the protection of his wings, Scarlet lifted the babies and surrounded them with her green flame. Then, Nyx retracted his wings and Scarlet used her powers to suspend the babies in the air.

She did not hold them far from herself because she didn’t want to take any chances. There were many gods here and just one of her. She didn’t know if her Kopuko powers could overwhelm them all in a fight at the same time. freeweɓnøvel.com

The same gods that were curious to have a look at her children were now hesitant. The energy coming from the green flames was quite strong and it bothered them. It felt like the powers of a fellow deity.

Carnelia made herself even smaller, becoming the size of a nine year old girl now. Now that the flame had been released, it would not be going back before burning something that thought they were wiser than mama bear down there.

The new goddess of fate had the memories of the old one and she knew what that flame could do. Even though a new god could just replace an old one, the pain of that death was still memorable and she was unwilling to go through it. The trauma was so fresh in her mind that it caused her to shrink back in her chair.

She was not the only one that shrunk back, a few more had a sudden terrible feeling.

Apheitos giggled softly and he scratched his beard. His fellow gods, were now to going to see where the overconfidence Scarlet had been exuding came from. He wondered if the others had grasped the gravity of the situation now.

He looked around and studied the looks on their faces. Who here would be getting replaced, he wondered.

Of all the gods, chaos was the first to raise the question which many of them had on their minds. "What the hell is that?

The answer he received was not the one he desired. A response came from wisdom and he whispered, "Fascinating."

Carnelia looked at Wisdom with horror in her eyes. Did he know what he was calling fascinating?

From below, Scarlet that was so small compared to the gigantic size of the deities and yet ultimately as powerful as them said, "Now, those who are interested in verifying the nature of my babies can come down and do so."

The babies opened their eyes, glaring red like the brightest poppies.

"I suggest that Apo go first because he wants to verify this fact more than anyone else here." Lythia suggested.

The old deity concurred wholeheartedly. He hoped that Apo did go down and that he tried to snatch one of the children. "Yes, Apo, go on and verify whether that is a child of life or death. After your verification, we can come to a decision on whether the war will be continued or withdrawn."
