Transmigration: The Little Chef Calls The Shots-Chapter 770 - 094 Li Mansion Celebration_3
Chapter 770: 094 Li Mansion Celebration_3
Lin Yuan was amused by her own wicked sense of humor and couldn’t help but let out a snicker, attracting Xia Zheng’s curious gaze.
She stuck out her tongue and pinched the center of someone’s palm, then turned her attention back to the newlyweds.
However, Xia Zheng didn’t intend to let her off the hook, leaning into her ear with a bewitching smile, "You seem so happy, could it be that you’re thinking about our wedding scene?"
Cough, cough. Lin Yuan nearly choked on her saliva and glowered at Xia Zheng, even flinging his hand away, but those slowly reddening earlobes were irresistibly adorable.
"Well, that’s what I was thinking," Xia Zheng said, successfully causing her earlobes to turn a deeper shade of red.
After the newlyweds had finished their bows, they were surrounded by a group of playful lads and ushered into the bridal chamber.
Li Chang stood up and bowed to the guests, and whether intentionally or not, he was facing Xia Zheng’s direction when he bowed his head.
"Everyone, I’m deeply grateful for your attendance at my son’s wedding. Li is tremendously thankful. Please feel at ease and relax," he said.
As soon as he finished speaking, all the guests returned his bow with various compliments.
Lin Yuan and Xia Zheng exchanged glances and curled their lips without saying a word. Perhaps because he had not yet received a response from a certain someone, Li Chang kept smiling obsequiously in Xia Zheng’s direction.
Xia Zheng’s brow furrowed, truly wanting to leave immediately with a sweep of his sleeve. Only when Lin Yuan tugged at the corner of his clothing with a laugh did he reluctantly nod toward Li Chang.
The male and female guests were separated, and Xia Zheng was quite displeased with this prudent way of entertaining guests. He would have preferred to always keep this little girl glued to his side.
Just as he intended to take advantage of a moment’s distraction to get a little closer, Xia Zheng spotted Ma Junying from afar, heading their way. His eyebrows arched as he quickly escorted Lin Yuan to the side of Ma Xiaonan, "Alright, alright, it’s just the duration of a meal, right? We’ll see each other soon enough. You better hurry to the parlor with Miss Ma, and when it’s time to leave, I’ll have someone call for you."
Without waiting for Lin Yuan to respond, he cozied up to Ma Junying with a brotherly arm and headed towards the male guest area.
Only then did Lin Yuan realize why Xia Zheng had suddenly turned cold. Watching the two men tease each other with jabs and pinches, she couldn’t help but burst into joy.
Ma Xiaonan quietly observed Lin Yuan, realizing that her gaze had been following someone other than her older brother. She felt a pang of loss for a moment but, being naturally pure and kind, held no grudge against Lin Yuan. She had just taken a few steps when she began to chatter away again excitedly.
Ma Xiaonan was in the midst of animatedly telling Lin Yuan about the amusing incidents that had occurred while intercepting the bridegroom earlier when Ma Xiaoqian and her husband approached from the opposite direction.
The couple, clearly unaware of Lin Yuan and her companion, were locked in a heated discussion. Ma Xiaoqian’s face was aflame with anger, her head turned as she glared and ranted furiously at Xie Zhiyuan. Xie Zhiyuan, a grown man, offered no resistance to his wife’s tirade, his lips pressed tightly and his expression stiffening to that of a wooden figure.
Ma Xiaonan certainly had not expected to encounter her cousin in such a state. Her lips sealed shut, she shot an awkward glance at Lin Yuan. Just as she was about to lead Lin Yuan around the confrontation, cousin’s scolding became louder, drawing the attention of other passing ladies.
With furrowed brows, Ma Xiaonan quickly approached her cousin and warned her in a low voice, full of reproach, "Cousin, what are you doing, with so many people watching? Even if you’re not considering the reputation of the Ma Family, think about your husband’s career. He still has to work at the yamen. With so many eyes here, do you want people to look down on him there?"
Although Ma Xiaoqian was a few years older than Ma Xiaonan, she was not as savvy in handling social situations as her younger cousin. Otherwise, she would not be publicly berating her own man at the home of Xie Zhiyuan’s superior.
Nevertheless, Ma Xiaoqian did take some heed of her younger sister’s words. She threw a contemptuous glare at Xie Zhiyuan and huffed disdainfully, "If it weren’t for my sister’s sake, I wouldn’t let you off so easily. Just wait until we get home to see how I’ll deal with you! Now let’s go!"
Xie Zhiyuan’s body involuntarily shuddered, and he cast a grateful glance at Ma Xiaonan before scurrying off faster than a rabbit. As he passed by Lin Yuan, he couldn’t help but steal a couple of glances, and upon realizing she was the young girl who called Mo Sanniang sister, his face turned a comical mix of red and white.
