Chapter 74: Training Starts. (1/2)
Lukas took unconscious Annie to the washroom, after cleaning her up with her little consciousness, he tucked her in. The bed was too large for the two of them.
Lukas, after checking the clock for the time and seeing it was almost midnight, sighed. He was tired, but his heart felt it was free, so he just sat on the rocking chair that was in the living room and slowly poured himself a cup of wine from the Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru, which they had previously opened but had not finished.
While sipping, he slowly watched the city below. Although he was from the future, he felt life was better this way. In his past life, he was constantly worried about food, he was so selfish that he forgot his family needed him too.
Life is funny, if this is how things are going, I don’t even know where I would end up.
Lukas, saying this, swirled the wine glass and finished it in one gulp, then returned to the bedroom and slept like a baby.
He woke up at nine in the morning and felt all his energy returning to his body, after yesterday night’s overtime, he was exhausted.
Annie was not by his side, and there was a note on the nightstand, so he understood she must have had to go. He yawned a little, then got up and picked up the note.
’ Hey Lover, Good morning, I have to say, after last night, I am a little weak in the knees. ’
Seeing the note, Lukas smiled, then he got a call from an unknown number. He received it because he had unfinished business yesterday.
" Is this Lukas? I am Steve Schrenk, your pitching coach. You have to attend the practice session today. I will expect you at Carpenter Complex today. Steve saying this ended the call, on the other hand, Lukas was very confused about where this place was.
Lukas then ordered a breakfast first, he was hungry, and after eating, he could figure out things more clearly, so he ate his fill and put on some nice shirts and pants with leather shoes and his Rolex.
Then he sat down on the couch and called his manager, Henry. He looked at the time, it was ten in the morning, so he needed to go fast wherever that pitching coach was.
" So, you are alive after all. I thought you died because you didn’t call me." Henry’s voice came, he was, as usual, taking big breaths and maybe eating something.
"So listen, I need a favor. I was called in to Carpenter Complex to train with my team’s pitching coach. I don’t know where it is, and I don’t have car access to go," Lukas said. He was not sure what to do. He wanted to meet Henry for several reasons too.
" Alright, where are you?" Henry asked, he was confused where Lukas went. He called the Ritz-Carlton, where Lukas stayed before, but there was no one there.
" I am in the Four Seasons Hotel, ready to leave any moment," Lukas said. He was just waiting for someone to pick him up.
" Alright, I understand. Wait, the place you mentioned is in Florida, so maybe a plane will be better. I will check with your team manager." Henry, saying this, ended the call.
Lukas just sat there, and he was not sure what he was supposed to do when he was called so far. Florida was very far.
*Ring-Ring*
Lukas’s phone rang after five minutes, just as he was contemplating reading the second part of The Lord of the Rings.
Seeing it was Henrys, he was actually very happy because this man was very efficient and was doing his best to make Lukas a better human.
" Hello, Coach. Tell me, Lukas answered the phone. Immediately and with a smile on his face, as Henry never disappoints him.
" Yes, I’ve talked with your team manager. There will be a plane leaving with players in about half an hour, so a taxi would be perfect. Go to the airport and ask for the Phillies team’s Atlantic Aviation, they will let you in, believe me. Manage a taxi and go." Henry said this ended the call, he seemed to be busy.
Lukas understood and called the reception to book him a taxi service, then picked up a scarf he bought for $1200 to hide his face. Although he was hiding his face, he was still as if radiating.
*Ding-Dong*
Someone pressed his suite’s doorbell. Lukas took his phone and wallet and opened the door.
" Sir, Taxi is waiting for you in our parking lot. Would you like a valet or waiter to go with you if you’re not comfortable traveling alone?" The person who came was the manager of the Four Seasons Hotel, and he asked with a polite tone.
" No, I won’t be needing something like this. You told the driver to take me to the airport, right?" Lukas asked, then locked the suited behind him.
"Yes, sir, he knows. Take the VIP elevators, we had evacuated the whole VIP lane that leads to the parking lot for you," the manager said with a smile. He was escorting Lukas all the way.
" Sir, Your $20,000 check is still intact with us. Our owner said that if you want, you can stay here as long as you want, you don’t need to pay. The manager smilingly said.
" I can? Why though? I can obviously pay," Lukas said. He was hiding his face in a green-colored scarf and looking around nervously.
" It’s like he is a Phillies fan and star like you are not always interested in staying in hotels, our chairman and owner said. You don’t have to worry, we won’t use your name in any kind." The manager reassured Lukas, and then they entered the elevator. The manager pressed the B1 button.
"What does B1 stand for?" Lukas asked, he was confused because the manager skipped G, which stands for ground floor.
" Basement 1 is our VIP parking space, and then there’s also B2 for everyone," the manager replied.
